Almost Human (2013)
Why the pattern of very poor acting female cop captains?
This show is very good, but could not help but noticing - like in Castle/Penny Johnson/ Captain Victoria Gates - where there is a similar role- Lili Taylor/ Captain Sandra Maldonado - really just can't act. All she does is carry on in an angry or disgruntled fashion every time she is on screen.. The only blemish in an otherwise fantastic series. Why this type casting? It does nothing for the series, and, frankly is kinda embarrassing to watch. Appearing annoyed in every scene is not acting, it is distracting. There are many possibilities for this role to be acted ably , adding to the series and not just being a cardboard caricature. Let's please have roles played by characters who add to the show, and are not just there to fill space because someone thinks there absolutely ha to be a surly malcontent there.
Exploitation of the victims
People need to understand that this is a *drama* not a documentary. Drama as in the dramatization. It was a terrible event in actuality, but this goes way overboard in depicting brutalization just for the shockfactor, of which there is plenty. It goes completely overboard. Actually, the filmmakers should be ashamed of themselves for exploiting what happened just to make a buck. It is very unfortunate that some ignorant people will assume that just because it is in a movie it is true. It is not. This film is a classic communist style "agitprop" film: agitation propaganda, made for the purpose of provoking the audience to action. Action in ignorance is as bad as no action. While people have a right to be outraged on the basis of an actual documentary or reading actual news accounts, this piece of fiction is not it.
Wonderful show, but
Every episode is well-done and enjoyable and charming. And the 4 (ok, maybe 5) main characters are great. The captain, however, Montgomery first and now the lady, are examples of poor poor high school-level acting. That caricature character is definitely the weak spot of the show. Please do justice to the rest of the show by providing a well-written, directed, and acted captain role. The daughter and mother added appreciated humanity to the show, and their roles should be expanded as should Beckett's dad. Really, is this not enough of an opinion to warrant posting? The mindless guidelines of 10 lines minimum place quantity over quality. Please, IMDb, plump for more quality software to be able to tell the difference.
