Good Sci-Fi with unnecessary flaws
I have waited for Prometheus to hit the theaters. I LOVE the Alien and Aliens movies. They both had a lot of story and a lot of reality in them (as much reality as a Sci-Fi can have). I mean that the story held together and that there is no major flaws in the story.
Prometheus have a wonderful scenery. The interior of the ship is really cool and trustworthy. The gear they use are also very cool. However as the year is 2093, the ones living then will for sure not agree. :-) The tension is not really there as I expect. It may have to do with the flaws that I think is unnecessary.
As this expedition is the most important that mankind has done, it is amazing that the team on board are such amateurs. They are a dysfunctional team. They seem not to have meet each other before the trip, that means they will not have trained together. Billions of dollars have been spent on the mission but Wayland Industries did not bother to collect and trained a professional team. Not likely! When two of the crew is trapped in the alien compound and find them self in trouble, the ships bridge is all empty. No watch guard that give the information or help them during their adventure. They are all alone. Not likely to appear on a real mission...
Things happen in the movie a little bit to fast for me to feel right. It is gaps in the story telling. A little bit like in some Star Trek TV series episodes when time run out and the have to solve what ever it is in two minutes. But here I feel that it happens throughout the story.
I do like the environment and the connection to the original Alien movies. So the movie is fun to see anyway. What makes me only giving it a seven is flaws that I see as unnecessary. The story could have hold together anyway. I also see some gaps from where Prometheus ends and Alien starts. Maybe there is a plan for another Prometheus?
Do see the movie, because it is worth it for the scenery and the gadgets, and also for some of the excitement.
Death Proof (2007)
What a waste of time!
That man does strange movies! This one is no exception. It's like....nothing.
Nothing happens for half the movie. Yeah, I know that was the same with Alien. But in Alien the situation and excitement was built up all along. Here it is nothing. There are a lot of conversations of nothing interesting at all. It has nothing to do with building the plot.
Is this a thriller, a drama, a horror movie? No it is nothing of those. It feels more as we are waiting of something to happening. Then it happens and the movie is over.
This is a disappointment! I have been skeptical towards Tarantino's movies earlier. When I've now seen this one I will not see another one, as I value my time to much.
A movie showing that a good story is 90% of the total
This movie is fantastic as it is produced with such a low cost, but by that also showing that a good story is the main thing.
The effects (yes there are ones) is good and gives a just right touch to the movie without taking over. The story is good and is a thrill.
When seen it you understand that they could keep a low budget, but that is not on expence of low quality. It's more of the kind that they did not have to spend more to fulfill the goal - a good movie.
How ever, the thing that will going on in my mind is - How the heck built that thing and why?
See it! Enjoy it!
