Emotive and well paced drama.
Anyone who says the film is too long needs to save their criticism and rethink their opinions. So many films could be made into a mini-series, but why not go for the feature film? We have seen so many series about Detroit, yet no film has been made that is this gritty and emotive for a long while.
Bigelow has done a great job in directing a film that kept me engrossed from start to finish. Better this is a feature and it receives public attention, I hope it finds its way into university classes. It deals with an issue that has been present in society for a long time and it continues today. No matter where you are, police brutality is one of the least scrutinised areas of crime in the world. It has triggered riots all over the world and has been used to calm peaceful protests time and time again. Yet it seems that police, to this day, can do almost as they please with innocent, non-violent individuals.
I feel it be of the utmost importance that people should watch this, you feel the fear of the victims of the horrible crimes committed by the police. Negative reviewers seem to be unable to focus on the difficulty of telling such a story and should give credit to all the actors, including the racist scum that made it so easy for us as the audience to hate them.
