I usually prefer not to read fiction books and watch their movie adaptations instead, but in the case of IT I should make an exception. first of all I like to say that this mini-series did better than the movie which almost didn't relate to the atmosphere of the book at all. I will start by listing parts I am glad they skipped.
the positive: book had a few of pointless pages and chapters that this mini- series skipped eg: after the festival chapter *the bird attacking Mike Hanlon seemed misplaced in the chapter it was told in and we should only hear of it from Mike in "the Album" without having that narrative earlier or the part in the interlude were his father also sees the bird was pointless *this whole turtle that created the world was idiotic *the children were too young for the under the sewers sex orgy part but perhaps Stephen King should have made the characters a couple of years older instead of not writing that part.
the negative: children encounter Pennywise in different forms in the mini-series they all see him as a clown *why did they make Ben Hanscom a new kid and change why Henry Bowers bullied him? why change his encounter with Pennywise? in the book he refuses to let Henry Bowers cheat leading to Bowers having to go to summer school, he also encounters Pennywise after returning home late during a storm, he believes he is having a mirage due to the icy storm when he sees a mummy walking between the frozen canal holding balloons which floats against the wind *why the stupid shower scene? in the book Eddie Kasprak tells his friends about an old house he walks by where he met a leper twice offering him a blow-job *why skip two of my favorite chapters from the July 1958 part of the book? I am talking about the smoke hole and the death of Patrick Hockstetter *why use the "Bullseye" chapter as the way they thought they defeated Pennywise in 1958? they could still have fitted the ritual of Chud while keeping the identity of the other unknown and reducing Pennywise status from a representative of the devil to just an out of space demon since they ended up killing IT,I think of a scene from Poltergeist II where they saw the other side something like that would have fitted as the final battle in both 1958&1985 *why mix Richie adult encounter with Ben? I am talking about the library scene *why not make the storm? this is how it was easy for them to find their way out in 1985 vs 1958 where they were lost under the sewers *why not skip Bill Denbourough beats the devil 2? because it was so random and you can't get someone out of catatonic state this way.
