Jandek on Corwood (2003)
Jandek on Corewood is an film on the reclusive artist that has been around for 25 years. Jandek has influenced Beck, Sonic Yoth, and has been spoken about in interviews by the late Kurt Cobain.
An enigma is the best way to describe him and his music, refusing to do interviews and have his photo taken, or to even reveal who he is has left people even more captivated by him and his music.
This film interviews many people in the music industry who have been fans for years and have collected his records over the past 25 years. They all describe what he and who he is to them.
I liked this film very much, the people who made it (in my opinion) didn't want to make a documentary that tracked him down and tried to interview him finally, they talked to people who had done that and to people who came close. It's as if they don't want to know anymore about him. They just want to take in his music and to believe he is a loner, a man sitting in a dusty room in Texas, playing a guitar only for himself choosing not to become part of the norm and be a truly unique artist both in his image and his sound.
Too much holiday cutseyness...
Elf was not as good as I hoped. Rather than loving Buddy, I was a bit annoyed by him. Zooey Dechanel was radiant as usual and showed that she can sing. James Caan is the same character he always is. Bob Newhart was great and adorable. Will Ferell may have pushed it a bit far and not in that good way he usually does...Elf has the same holiday movie morals and all that crap about believinng in Santa, except The Santa Clause was better, it also had some laughs and it's worth it, if you sneak in to the theater...
The Mambo Kings (1992)
a great film
Mambo kings was completly overlooked when it came out and I am personally thankful that my family is hispanic or I wouldn't have grown up listening to the music of Mambo Kings and watching this movie is like home to me. This film is amazing. Antonio Banderas and Armand Assante are so gret together, perfect chemistry and I hope they consider doing another film together in the future. Another aspect of this movie besides the powerful performances and incredible appeal of each character is the music. The late Tito Puente and the late Celia Cruz appear in this film and do amazing performances in 1952 Manhattan. Another plus in this film is the appearance of Desi Arnaz Jr. who plays his late father. They even do an I LOVE LUCY episode in the film. Please go buy this film and the incredible soundtrack.
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958)
Everything is just amazing in this film. Liz Taylor's performance is breathtaking and Paul Newman is so raw. Tennessee Williams is a genius. There is much animal heat Brick and Maggie. Please go see CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF!
Road to Perdition (2002)
Utter perfection, amazing!!
This movie is yet another incredible Tom Hanks film. Every single actor is just beautiful in their performances. There is complete bliss after seeing such an amazing film. Sam Mendes is a genius! Utter PERFECTION! This is what makes films great! Road to Perdition is flawless!
