Wow this was bad
With over 70 years of material you would think the writers would not have to stoop to ripping off Star Wars, Indy, and James Bond. The weapons that Hydra were very close to the storm trooper blasters, but even more lethal. Yet somehow they fail again and again to stop soldiers with shot guns and pistols. The inventions that Iron man's dad comes up with are way advanced for 1942, rendering him little more than a primitive Q. The scene with the Cube and Red Skull was straight out of the Raiders ending. All in all it was very slow moving, lacked any kind of imagination, threw in the very cliché love angle, and sported a very unconvincing Evans as Cap. He should stick to playing the Human Torch in those dreadful FF movies, and you should skip this and watch Thor.
Funny Games (2007)
Rewind? Talking to the audience? Amateur Hour
I'm surprised that Naomi Watts and Tim Roth would go slumming in what was little more then a bad student film.
In order for this type of film to succeed, the audience must be able to suspend disbelief and really feel the terror of the actors. Funny Games destroys both concepts by not only having the characters speak to the audience (okay for Annie Hall) but also has a character pull a Zack Morris and actually rewind a scene. Couple that with the very boring killers and incomprehensible camera angles, and what are you left with? This very boring, mean spirited film.
Check out In Cold Blood for a better film.
My new most over-rated film of all time
And I thought The English Patient was over-rated! The DVD case screamed #1 film of the year, astonishing, and so on. What a bunch of crap.
Supposedly a film about a woman deciding rather or not to have an abortion, the decisions was already made. Rather than having the audience see the ups and downs, pro's and con's, etc., we are "treated" to not only viewing the actual abortion, but the aborted fetus as well.
The sub-plot revolved around the friend's romance, which contributed nothing but a very long and drawn out dinner scene that seemed like it would never end.
As far as being a look at communism in it's last days, I would suggest watching The Lives Of Others.
