Lists by Artimidor

a list of 256 people
A work in progress list comprising my favorite film directors, detailed ratings of films already seen are included and added to the various directors. Directors with only one entry yet will be added to the bottom of the list - this however only in case they can be considered acclaimed directors or where I definitely plan to watch more. Once at least two ratings are available they'll be moved up and sorted into the main list. So consider it more a Top 50 list with the rest lying in waiting to join the fray...

The following - constantly expanding - list contains links to scenes of films, which represent purest cinematic magic and will stay in your mind for the one or the other reason. This is the crème de la crème, this is what films were made for - at least in my humble point of view. In a few rare instances I've chosen montages, trailers or slightly altered version whenever I felt that they did justice to the material. Whenever I do this, this is specified of course.

Please note that the mentioned scenes are often also key scenes in those movies, so don't watch unless you have seen the films already - the short descriptions I provide to introduce them are kept spoiler free, though. Otherwise just sit back and savour these unforgettable movie moments - and if you have a suggestion or know where to find better versions of the clips posted here feel free to share it with me!

As an appetizer I recommend to take a look at Flavorwire's 135 Shots That Will Restore Your Faith in Cinema: http://www.miramax.com/subscript/135-shots-that-will-restore-your-faith-in-cinema-video - enjoy and see how many films you can recognize. Or to put it in another way: How much catching up do you still have to do?

Gathered on this list are all kinds of series produced for TV, regardless of genre and time they were produced, which I personally recommend and consider essential viewing. So you might find sitcoms as well as mystery, sci-fi and even horror here, but key to being listed are always the innovative approach and that the quality holds up. Consistent quality of course is debatable, as there are always ups and downs, however shows that jump the shark after some very good seasons or merely rehash the same things over and over again are not considered.

Reviews to the shows will be added bit by bit. I hope you enjoy what you find here and get the one or the other inspiration out of my personal favorites.

Gathered on this little abode on the internet are essentials to check out for everyone interested in film making - its history, its development, innovations. You can find here series about the production process of the movie business ranging from the early silent days over the invention of the talkies until now, you'll get filmmakers explaining their craft and art or being filmed themselves. Not to be expected here are documentaries you usually find as DVD extras, which only revel in self-adulation but don't add much to your personal movie education. At any rate: Enjoy!
