MXP: Most Xtreme Primate (2004)
Moving, 3rd best movie of 2004
Just got done watching this much talked about, but forgotten cinema classic. A chimp named Jack snowboards. The chimp can also play X-Box, and actually pulls off some pretty sweet moves in the real and virtual world. A "Mob Boss" bets on the chimp to win a snowboarding race, $1,000 to be exact. Some snowboarding dude says "Tight dog" at the end. The human Mom to the chimps travels around the country with multiple chimps (who all have passports, which by the way are not needed for trips inside the U.S.). The bad guys steal the chimp for like 5 minutes, then he is snowboarding again. The kids keep telling Jack they are gonna take him home but they don't do anything for days but play video games, play guitar, and snowboard with Jack. It seems like some of the people have amnesia, and maybe some hidden subtext I am missing. Jack is there as a reminder Chimps will do almost anything for bananas.
WNUF Halloween Special (2013)
Could one day be a small cult classic
It saddens me I am the first person to write about this movie. I guess I'm not really too sure how I even found out about it. Unfortunately for me, this is not a movie you want to have even heard of before experiencing it. It's available on VHS or DVD, get it on VHS if you have a working VHS player, as getting this on DVD is kinda pointless.
I told my wife I found an old VHS tape someone had recorded in the 80's and made copies of, and we were gonna watch it for Halloween. This movie by far is the most believable 'found footage' movie I've ever seen. There were times I thought it was an actual recording from the 80's, and I knew about the movie. The VHS quality, the terrible commercials, the bad acting, and there are no credits to be found in the movie. The entire movie she kept asking me, is it real or is this one of those Blair Witch movies? I played dumb, and said I don't know, I found it online.
The movie itself isn't anything spectacular, I rate it so high mostly for the fact there is no other 'found footage' movie this believable. It will be a hard movie to ever become a 'cult' movie just for the fact that once you know its's a movie; it definitely ruins the experience somewhat. My plan is to hang on to this treasure till I have kids, and tell them my parents recorded this in the 80's from TV on a VCR tape (kids won't even know what VHS tapes are then). This movie will for sure be in my Halloween viewing collection every year, and I hope to get more people to see it, as it's virtually unknown. The movie was made dirt cheap as well, and is an inspiration for people interested in making movies; as it shows a clever gimmick can go a long way.
It really is a secret stoner movie.....
Ed, what can you say about this movie that hasn't already been said? As the 3-bannanna reviewer stated, it contains all that is needed in a great movie. 1)Monkeys 2)Baseball 3)Someone from the show 'Friends.' If you pay to watch this movie you are a fool, luckily U-verse had it on for demand for free. Though on second thought, I remembered I did ask for my girlfriend to get it for me on Blu-ray if it ever came out; should a miracle like that ever happen. The reason people didn't find this movie funny, is because everyone thinks its a kid's movie. It's not. It's a movie for someone who just smoked a lot of bud. I laughed so hard at some points I was crying, and literally nothing would be happening except the Monkey farting or doing a flip while catching a ball. This movie would of been a complete disaster if they would have used a real monkey. It still is a disaster of sorts, but it is much funnier with a robotic monkey than the real thing. I have no idea how to even rate this movie, as it obviously is a horrible piece of cinema (OK that gives it too much credit, a horrible piece of film); but at the same time made me laugh more than any movie I can think of in recent history. I will meet in the middle and give it a 5.
This show is amazing
This show is nothing short of amazing. Of course it is, it's veteran larry charles, from seinfeld, doing a lot of the writing, what do you expect? I was hesitant to watch the show at first, the whole Hollywood glam life isn't for me. Then I watched this show, god what a dream it would be the have the life these kids have. I love the guests they have on the show, usually really random; but it always seems to work. This show is also really pot friendly, and portrays it in a very accurate way. This has got to be on the best dramedies on TV, and am very glad it has been picked up again for a new season. I watch 2-3 eps a day, and am almost done with season 3. If you want to escape to Hollywood, a place filled with money, hot chicks, and plenty of pot smoking, Entourage has got you covered.
The greatest show ever!
I just got done reading the reviews, and I couldn't agree more. This show is currently at a 9.6 rating, I wish they ranked their TV show ratings as well; as the # 1 movie (godfather) is only a 9.1. I started watching the show a little late, but am very glad something has come out that is on-par with arrested development. Curb/office are also great, but neither has the balls to go where this show will go. If you haven't started watching this show, go to walmart (this time only!), I got the 1st two seasons for only $29.99! Im glad this show is cheaply made so Fox can't axe it just cause Americans are idiots (see: AD). Rock, flag, eagle!
