2016: Obama's America (2012)
Not Sensationalized - Worthy of Viewing by Supporters or Detractors
Director Dinesh D'Souza took a very professional approach to this. I think BO supporters would be surprised at how sensationalized it is NOT. I won't pretend it is objective; D'Souza is up- front about his own political conservatism. It is recommended viewing for an informed electorate. Wish there was one on Mr. Romney as well. We live in an amazing age of information and yet in our overload, perhaps we are as ignorant as ever.
D'Souza looks at Obama's lifetime mentors, Obama's writings, and his actions since becoming President. Based on that, he formed his hypothesis that Obama's primary world-view is "anti- colonialist," and, as such, aspires to bring America down to a level playing field with the rest of the world.
Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2005)
Strong Christian morality - my favorite movie this year
A deep and serious drama. Not the silly comedy the trailer suggests, although the "star" does humorous African-American characters Eddie Murphy style. Themes: divorce, transformation, forgiveness, romance, sadness. Reviewers seem to love or hate it. If you like a movie with a spiritual theme, exploring issues of how someone handles horrible betrayal and starts over, with romance, a handsome man and a beautiful woman, peppered with comedic family characters, you will probably like this movie. Strong Christian moral themes. Definitely a chick flick but my guy liked it too. Even the teenage boys in the room seemed to enjoy. Anyone who has ever been through a painful divorce will relate.
Mystery Men (1999)
We quote lines from this gem all the time!
Mystery Men is one of those movies that gets funnier over time. There is a naive innocence and "niceness" to the characters. It has become part of our family "culture," and we quote the characters often. It is my favorite film of the last two years. My kids are 13 and 11 and we all three love this film. Great acting and comedy. We love Galaxy Quest and Monty Python flicks too. Okay, we're not talking intellectual here, just Family bonding!
