What Animation Should Be
23 December 2023
This movie deserves a better score. I went to watch this movie with a friend, not expecting much, and we were both blown away. The animation, story, humor, absolutely amazing.

First off, the animation. I'm most definitely not the first to point out the art style and animation, but boy, is it amazing. The lower frame rate in characters movement during the action scenes really added a visual pop and was eye candy to watch. The paint-like nature of the textures truly make the movie feel more based on fairy tales and storybooks.

The story was intriguing to watch advance, and I was anticipating every moment that would soon follow. Puss and his realization of mortality was captivating, to say the least. And to top it with the three antagonists, that all advance the plot, while not feeling rushed, was immaculate. None of the villains were generic in the slightest. One being a classic evil villain, another a literal force of nature, and a sort of gray-area villain to feel for, all amazing.

Every single joke landed between us. We were dying of laughter. The jokes were not generic or immature in the slightest. Hell, even some clips circulated around the internet for a while following it's release.

We still talk about how great this movie was, a year after we watched it in theaters.

If you haven't watched it yet, I highly recommend it. It should be on Netflix, depending on your region.

Not Half Bad
23 December 2023
Overall, not a half bad illumination movie.

The movie's environments were beautiful. Easily my favorite part of the movie. I loved the watercolor-esque trees. Also, the designs of some of the humans, especially the main antagonist, are pretty nice and creative. The jokes weren't nearly as "cringey", and landed for the most part. (hah, get it, cause the movies about ducks... migrating). The humor in this movie feels more family-focused, rather than purely for the kids.

As for the negatives, the story is fairly linear, and not too interesting. The overall theme is very obvious, so it isn't too deep. All in all, a typical illumination movie.

Overall, a decent Illumination movie. Just plain family fun. If you want to be fairly entertained, and laugh with your kiddos, this is a good movie.
