Birds of a Feather: Spa Wars (2015)
A cracking way to end the Series.
Naomi is all set to fly off to New Zealand, Dorien is upset at her leaving. The girls are planning on a trip to Mowbray Park Health Spa to relax and unwind in light of Tracy's recent news. Tracy decides that should anything happen to her he plans on leaving the house to her. Dorien meets Roger at the Health Spa, mistaking him for his Father, Dorien decides she needs to have it out with Naomi as they have unfinished business. Tracy hears of a motorbike accident on the M4, fearing it could be Garth and Travis she heads home from the Spa, she finally gets the call she's been waiting for.
A lovely way to end Series 11, it's been a great series overall, this was a nice way to end it, a great mix of funny and serious.
I love this episode for many reasons, it's so rich for so many reasons, it's funny, it's sad, it's so wonderfully moving, an it ends on a really happy note, loved it, 9/10
Funny and Serious, an excellent episode.
Sharon, Tracy and Dorien have been out and gotten hammered, pinching a traffic cone and running away from the Police. Sharon plans a girly weekend for the trio, a seventies revival weekend in Skegness. Tracys's out splashing the cash, when she tries on an outfit Dorien spots a mole on her shoulder, she plagues Tracy into getting a Doctor's appointment, she decides not to tell Sharon.
A brilliant episode, with a very very serious message, humour works exceptionally well when it has a serious side to it, tough subject to deal with, and I applaud them for this episode.. Expertly and sensitively written and beautifully performed, they came up with the goods well and truly.
Dorien dressed as Wonderwoman one of the highlights of the series, side splitting.
Sharon's the boss from hell...
Tracy's coming out of Prison and coming home to a welcoming Party, Sharon's been reading Kitchen Commando, a book on organisation, she's also landed the Kitchen Supervisor's job at the School, Garth has landed a job there, and Sharon's his boss. Sharon is a bit of a tyrant in the Kitchen, demanding to be called Mrs Theodopolopodous, and barking out orders. Tracy turns up with a surprise for Sharon, she's there for an interview. Dorien's spending big bucks, playing online poker, spending Thousands, the girls get her a job at Melanie Fishman's boutique.
Funny episode, it's great to see Sharon in control for a change and calling the shots. Brilliant to have Melanie Fishman in once again, I loved the banter between her and Dorien once again.
A lot to this episode, they seemed to cram a hell of a lot in to 24 minutes, really enjoyed this one. Especially Dorien scrubbing the floors, 8/10
Dorien's Nemesis finally returns...
Dorien's book group is calling round to discuss Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment. Sharon's there to help Dorien impress her old Nemesis Melanie Fishman. Tracy is devastated when she gets a phone call from the Police Station, telling her that Travis has been arrested for selling dodgy cigarettes. The Police end up searching the House, the Girls are terrified as the money is still in the attic. The Garden shed is full of Cigarettes, Travis is in big trouble. It's all the fault of brother, Garth, all hell erupts and a drunken Dorien is trying to lead the book group. Tracy has to choose which son confesses to the crime, being the mum that she is she makes a different path.
Awesome that they resurrected Melanie Fishman, a brilliant character from the early days, considering she only made a few appearances she's a legendary character, Jan Goodman looks incredible too, wonderfully smart. Brilliant scenes between Dorien and Melanie.
DS Farmer is a good character, good that he's returned several times, Mark Powley has aged very well it's fair to say.
Brilliant episode for Dorien, 8/10
Dorien finally meets Naomi
Dorien learns after googling Naomi that she's a vicar, being Jewish Dorien worries she'll have nothing in common with her. They finally meet, awkwardly, Naomi is a dead ringer for her mother. Tracy receives an unusual package, a note and hundreds of buttons, it can only have come from her Auntie Vera, who's decided to retire as a Pearly Queen, she chooses Tracy as her successor, much to Sharon's jealousy. Sharon takes Dorien to meet Auntie Vera in one of the rougher parts of the City. Dorien goes to meet her daughter at the Church, she discovers a naughtier side to her and realises she's a good girl, but sadly accepts a posting in New Zealand.
Loved the line 'Sharon what you done to yourself?' absolutely hilarious line. Poor Dorien picked up a lot of stick from Auntie Vera, so so funny.
I'll be honest I didn't know that Pearly Kings and Queens existed either, so I've learned something new. Linda and Pauline looked fabulous in their costumes. The knees up was brilliant.
Very sweet episode, enjoyed very much, 8/10
Arguably the best episode to date (ITV Years)
Dorien gets a shock letter in the post, Saron grabs it and reads it aloud, it turns out that Dorien has a daughter 'Naomi,' she gave up for adoption fifty years ago, she explains to the girls the tragic story surrounding the circumstances of why she had to give her daughter up for adoption. Travis is going through a bit of a phase and being cheeky, out of character. Tracy writes to Naomi on Dorien's behalf, and she turns up to meet her mum, with a big surprise.
A cracking episode, I loved this one, very different to the rest of the new series episodes, the concept of Dorien having a child was great, and I loved Tracy's revenge on Travis for being an idiot, talking about every guy's worst nightmare.
Nice to see a more emotional side to our main characters, Lesley Joseph is a brilliant actress, as are Linda and Pauline, they shine strongly in this one.
Naomi was a great character, Frances Ruffelle did a great job as Dorien's daughter, more please.
Sharon's a bright spark..
Sharon's got a new job as a School Dinner Lady, her boss is a nineteen year old Tyrant, Sharon lost out on the Supervisor's position because she has no qualifications. Dorien's being pushed into writing a book that she doesn't want to by her Publisher. Sharon's outscored everyone else in an IQ test, poor Garth has come last, Travis is seemingly proud of his Auntie he takes her to School to parade her, but he uses her as a lab rat for his psychology project, Nature or Nurture.
Poor Sharon, having a job she hates, and humiliated by her nephew, on such a downer, nice to see Dorien try and help Sharon to develop as an individual.
Absolutely loved Dorien's outburst at Sharon, and Sharon's subsequent shoving Dorien's face in the cream cake, hilarious moment.
A nice episode, not the funniest, but still had some nice moments, 7/10
Midsomer Murders: Bad Tidings (2004)
A brilliant Midsomer episode
Troy has gone off to pastures new, Barnaby has a new colleague, the straight laced and cocky Sergeant Scott, a totally different guy to Troy. It's not long before he and Barnaby are on the hunt for a killer, after a Spanish dancing evening, Fiona Thompson is found stabbed to death in Midsomer Mallow Field with a Red Rose in her mouth. Cully is meeting up with a group of friends that she hasn't seen for ages.
This has an absolutely fantastic cast, shame this is the last time we've seen Nina Marc (Fiona) on the TV, lovely and talented actress, John Standing, John Normington, Esther Hall, Ruth Jones, all utterly brilliant, they had a cracking script to work with, the standout performance here though came from Helen Grace, she's a magical actress, shockingly underrated and massively talented.
Series 7 is a very strong season, no wonder they were averaging ten million viewers per episode, this is one of the better ones, something very dark and nasty about this one, it's very very good. 9/10
A welcome return for the Christmas birds.
Dorien is treating herself, Sharon and Tracy to a Christmas break in the Canary Islands. Tracy's fear of flying is giving her the jitters, she needs something to calm her, her nerves aren't helped when the girls find a load of mouthy World of Quid staff on the same flight. Garth sets about helping his younger brother Travis to lose his virginity. When the plane is delayed everyone returns home.
It was great that after all these years we were given a Birds of a Feather Christmas special, and while it wasn't up to the standard of the originals it was still enjoyable. I felt a little short changed by the holiday, years ago the holiday would have meant filming abroad, not just the departure lounge, and it would have been an hour long, lets hope soon it all happens.
We've got a new Garth once again, good bit of casting as Samuel James does look fairly like Matt Willis.
Welcome return, 8/10
That's My Boy: Two Lonely People (1986)
The big day approaches for Wilfred.
Wilfred turns up at the Surgery soaking wet, he's homeless, after a telephone cable has gone through the roof, he's temporarily moved in with Ida. Miss Parfitt calls in a state, Mother's decided to leave her, and move in with her Sister Myrtle. Ida attempts to join Miss Parfitt and Wilfred, he moves in, but a letter turns up at Ida's accusing Wilfred of being in an immoral relationship with Miss Parfitt, her reputation is at stake, he does the decent thing and proposes marriage.
It's been a lovely series, sweet and fun, Series 5 has been a bit down on the earlier series, but it's still been enjoyable. Miss Parfitt has been a good addition to the cast for the last two series, and it's nice that she gets a good storyline to end the show with.
Sweet finale to a show that ended at the right time. 7/10
