The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Always a Bridegroom (1959)
Kids getting married awfully young these days
A cute episode that was addressing the trend of the late 50s of "kids" getting married young.
Dave it seems is going out with a girl named Betty according to Ozzie and Harriet. Recently he has been invited to a newly weds house for dinner with Betty and his friend George. Ozzie and Harriet then think that the married couple must be trying to convince David and Betty to get married. After all why would they invite them for dinner?
They remember when they were young and first married. Ozzie remembers Harriet's cooking and thinks Dave isn't in for a very good meal which prompts a remark from Harriet.
This was a good episode to watch and deals with the issue that the boys are growing up and will someday get married. That's what made this show so unique. There was character growth as all the characters got older.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Treasurer's Son (1959)
"Then someone makes the motion that I'm the best treasurer..."
The Treasurer's son, Ricky Nelson. Ozzie gives us a great episode continuing his story of being the treasurer for the Men's Club. This comes with a twist as this is about Ricky helping Wally who is the treasurer for the fraternity.
Wally has been struggling with the books and the fraternity assigns Ricky to help Wally out. They have just put in a new hot water heater for the fraternity house and also have been planning an upcoming dance.
Ricky decides to ask the Men's Club for a space to rent so they can hold the dance. He goes to Ozzie for the details and gets a spot for the Boys and the dance.
This was a funny episode and as mentioned earlier, it reminded us that Ozzie is still stuck being the treasurer.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Other Guy's Girl (1959)
"You can't blame a guy for being a little jealous."
This story covers misunderstandings and jealousy. We start off with Zeke in trouble with his girlfriend, Connie. He thought that she was out with another guy when she was really just sick. He asks Ricky to try and fix things up between him and Connie but Ricky says he is meeting his girlfriend, Betty right now. Zeke promises to tell Betty and Rick agrees to help Zeke out with Connie.
Zeke decides to lie to Betty and tells her that Rick is sick and that's why he couldn't make it to see her. She decides to go get him a get well card and when she goes to the malt shop, she sees Connie and Ricky talking.
There is another misunderstanding and now Ricky is in trouble with Betty.
This was a funny episode and it was good to watch.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Togetherness (1959)
"There's been a slight change in plans".
This is a good episode about husbands and wives spending all of their time together. This takes a little bit of a turn when David and Ricky feel they haven't been spending as much time with their parents as they used too.
Ozzie goes to a Women's Club Meeting lecture about the above subject. He listens to the female speaker and afterwards starts to feel pressured into doing things with Harriet. She asks him if he can play golf with him the next day with Joe. Ozzie trying not to hurt her feelings agrees to it.
Joe gives him a hard time over not being strong enough to stand up to Harriet. However at the golf course, we find that Clara and Sally Darby are with their husbands at the golf course too.
A light hearted episode that has a nice ending. This was an enjoyable episode.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Ricky, the Bullfighter (1959)
"I Have my Libro with me."
This was a well written and delightful episode. Ricky is attracted to a new Spanish exchange student. He is a little nervous and Zeke introduces him to her. He decides to take some Spanish lessons from her even though he doesn't need the help.
It doesn't work out to well because he informs the guys of his plan who happen to take Spanish lessons with him at the same time. Ricky has to think of another way to get to know this girl alone. He finds out that her brother is a great bullfighter back in Spain. Ricky decides to learn a little bit more about bullfighting to impress the girl.
Senor Vicente Gomez appears in this episode with a guitar number which shows his tremendous talent.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Small Tent (1959)
"It'll be in a lodge getting warmed by the fire"
This was a very funny episode compared to the last one. This was well thought of and written beautifully. What a fantastic idea to have the men and the women camping outside during a frozen night.
Ozzie once again speaks without thinking when talking about camping outside and the pioneer spirit. Ozzie, Darby and Joe make a little bet with their wives, Harriet, Sally and Clara about who can handle camping outside in the cold.
Darby and Joe aren't very happy with Ozzie making this little bet with them when the wives actually agree.
The usual shenanigans happen between the husbands and wives as they see who can outlast the other.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Ozzie Changes History (1959)
"How come you got stuck with this job?"
This was a decent episode from Ozzie. It wasn't the best and I didn't care for the arguing between Ozzie and Darby. It was a little sad for certain reasons (not to spoil anything) that Darby behaved the way he did.
Ozzie is trying to find out about Phineas Warfield, the man who founded their city 100 years ago at the time. Ozzie tries to find out about him from an older man but doesn't get anywhere. He writes to the town historical society who gives him the truth about Phineas Warfield.
Ozzie tries to bring the truth to light about the town but runs into trouble with Darby. Again this wasn't the best idea to come from the writers who usually do a pretty good job. Not one of my favorites.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Exploding Book (1959)
"Why don't you grow up and act your age?"
This was a terrific and funny show. It was included in the dvd "Ozzie and Harriet - Favorite Memories". It certainly is that and more.
David has been going out with a girl named Betty, whose father just happens to be David and Wally's history teacher. Wally informs David that he also has been taking Betty out on a few dates. David gets a little upset when he finds out. Wally has been struggling in history and is hoping the professor will take it easy on him if he is dating his daughter.
This sets off a little rivalry between Dave and Wally to fight for Betty's affections. Wally tries to use deception to keep Dave away from Betty by not telling him she invited Dave to her birthday party. She runs into David and tells him herself, thwarting Wally's scheme.
This sets the stage for what is to come as David tries to find the right birthday present for Betty.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Newspaper Interview (1959)
"Shall I bring out the moose head and the trophies?
This was a good, classic episode of Ozzie and Harriet. Darby has been chosen as the neighbor of the week. He had his photograph taken and put in the paper. It shows him with a dog, a smoking jacket and some trophies. None of these things even belonged to him.
Darby comes over to brag to Ozzie about being chosen. Ozzie sees the picture and declares that the trophies and the moosehead belong to him. How could Darby allow a phony photograph of himself to be taken? Ozzie says he would allow the photographer to take his picture just the way he is.
Well as usual Ozzie has to prove whether he is just talking or he actually means it. This was a classically funny episode with down to earth humor. You will enjoy this episode.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Ozzie's Old Teammate (1959)
"Maybe you zigged when you should have zagged."
Ozzie and the writers craft yet another great episode full of twists and turns right up to the end.
I wonder if this episode was the inspiration for The King of Queens episode where Doug faced a similar predicament?
Any way Ozzie meets an old school football teammate at a Men's Club Meeting. They talk about a game between Richfield High and Leonia. Ozzie says he scored the game winning touchdown and his team won. His friend Harry seem to remember the game differently. He says that they lost the game.
Ozzie was a master at the details and they always tie in at the very end. This is what made the show so special.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Composite Girl (1959)
"It was just supposed to be a joke!"
This was a good episode of Ozzie and Harriet. It appears the campus is holding a beauty contest to find the most beautiful girl on campus. For Rick and Zeke have been chosen to be photographers for their fraternity and must take pictures of all the beautiful girls they see.
They take the photos back to Dave, Wally, Fred and the other guys who act as the judge. When they can't seem to find one from the pile of photographs, they send Rick and Zeke out for more photos.
Upset that they have to get more photos, they devise a plan to get a composite picture of all the girls on campus and have it be a beautiful girl that doesn't exist.
This is what the episode is about and the story takes a turn when the mystery girl is one of the 4 finalists to be chosen the winner.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Jealous Joe Randolph (1959)
"Don't forget tomorrow, Ozzie!"
This was a classic episode of Ozzie and Harriet from Season 7.
The story is set up with Ozzie, Harriet, Joe, and Clara coming back from watching a movie. They get into the subject of jealousy since that what part of the movie was about. They also discuss that the main character of the film would be happier married to another character on the film. When Clara and Joe leave to go home, Clara tells Ozzie about not forgetting tomorrow. It appears Joe's birthday is coming up and she wants Ozzie to help her pick out a present for him.
Harriet later asks Ozzie what Clara wanted he tells her about Joe's birthday. The conversation rolls around to who Ozzie would be happily married to if it wasn't Harriet. Just as Ozzie is going to sleep he says Clara.
And so our story begins from here. Playing off the age old story of jealousy. It was a well written episode and good laughs. TV was great to watch in the 1950s.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Ozzie and the Space Age (1959)
"Crackpot or Scientist?"
This is another example of a good episode with Ozzie and the neighborhood kids.
Ozzie goes to the barbershop for a haircut where Darby and Doc Williams are waiting to get their hair cut. They get into the subject of flying saucers after Darby reads an article about a new movie. Ozzie makes a comment that there may be life on other planets and Darby and Doc roast him for it.
Later that evening Darby and Doc show up at Ozzie's house to see if they can get a picture of a flying saucer.
Ozzie's curiosity gets the best of him as it usually does and this episode is truly funny. I love when Ozzie sticks his foot in his mouth and he has to find a way to save face. This was a great episode to watch.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Rick's Dinner Guests (1959)
"You suppose being confused is hereditary?"
Ozzie and the writers brings another fantastic and hilariously funny episode again. It seems Rick has met a new girl that just moved to town and has invited her and her parents over for dinner. Ozzie wants the guys over for a poker game the same night.
The trouble begins when Ozzie heads to the store to get some things for the dinner. He runs into a Mr. Edwards that tells Ozzie that his son is coming over to their house for dinner. Ozzie tells him he thought he and his wife were coming over for dinner. And so our story is set with confusion the cause of our trouble again at the Nelson household.
Ozzie and the writers craft a well written story full of the usual twists that the show gives us. This was a great episode to watch and it was very funny. I loved this episode.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Rick's Scientific Date (1959)
"How did I know she was the captain of the soccer team?"
Wally has a bad habit of fixing up his fraternity brothers with bad blind dates. When he comes in the malt shop he tries to fix Dave, Zeke or Fred with a blind date. Zeke and Fred leave leaving David alone with Wally.
Wally informs Dave that this girl is his cousin and he decides to come up with a "scientific experiment" for his psychology class to get Ricky to date his cousin.
This episode contains a lot of laughs but not as many as previous episodes. It was a good episode to watch any way though. It does have a very funny ending that I won't spoil it. Typically the boys episodes are funny but this was not the funniest episode in the series.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Runaways (1958)
"Just Call Me Donnie."
Ozzie directs another fantastic episode. The story centers around two young kids running away from home.
Ozzie comes home from some errands downtown and he and Harriet discover the little kids in the back of Ozzie's car. Ozzie and Harriet are able to get them to come inside to have some ice cream. After some careful questioning, the kids won't reveal much information to the Nelsons.
This was a great episode with Katie Sweet's acting debut. She did a stellar job acting at the young age of 2. She delivered all of her lines so well for her age. Donald Losby who played her brother also did a fantastic job. This was an adorable episode.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Helpful Neighbor (1958)
"The Baby Belonged to Mrs. Green."
Ozzie crafts another delightful episode full of tongue twisters and plenty of laughs.
Our story begins with Ozzie heading over to the Darby's to see of Darby wants to play golf. Darby tells him he can't and that he is going to be painting the living room. Sally comes home and reminds Darby she is going to have a bridge party there this afternoon.
Ozzie tells Sally that Harriet can host the party this week and when it is Harriet's turn, Sally can host. When Ozzie informs Harriet she has Ozzie go downtown to pick up some eclairs.
That's when the trouble begins. One thing after another happens to Ozzie in this fun filled episode.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Motorcycle (1958)
"Those fish are getting restless."
The age old question of when a parent has to let their child make their own decisions. When does a parent let go of their child?
Ozzie is driving Harriet out to see a model house for a friend/cousin of Sally Darby's. They make a wrong turn and end up at Motorcycle Hill where they run into David on a motorcycle. They find out that he comes up here and rides, borrowing a motorcycle from a friend.
Later, David brings Bob's motorcycle home. He tells Ozzie that he is considering buying one for himself. A concerned Ozzie tells Harriet and they both agree that it would be a bad idea since David wants to get rid of his car as well. Harriet wants Ozzie to talk David out of buying one. Ozzie tells Harriet that David is old enough to make his own decisions.
This was a good story with a moral. There aren't a lot of laughs but that doesn't detract from this being a good episode.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Dress Shop (1958)
"Mademoiselle, you are looking for Pierre, n'est pas?"
This was another funny episode involving Ozzie, Harriet, Joe and Clara. Clara wants to buy a dress shop and Joe is against the idea. He comes over to Ozzie and Harriet's to talk with Ozzie. He wants Harriet to convince Clara that buying a dress shop is a bad idea.
When Joe and Clara arrive there later for dinner, the boys have to do the dishes while the girls talk about the dress shop. It appears that Harriet talked Clara out of buying the dress shop. It turns out that actually Harriet is going to be Clara's business partner. So the girls are now in business.
This was a well written show with plenty of laughs. Ozzie and Joe get into trouble again as they always do and the results are always a million laughs. There are plenty of gags in this one and you will enjoy this episode.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Harriet Creates a Triangle (1958)
"What's Your Next Move, Coach?"
This episode was a surprise and a change of pace. Not what you would normally expect but funny.
Harriet meets an old friend at the malt shop and her beautiful daughter, Peggy. Harriet and her friend talk after Peggy leaves for a tennis date. Harriet thinks Peggy would be perfect for David and wants him to call her up. They cook up a scheme to have David return the friend's gloves and Peggy will answer the door.
Unfortunately Ricky meets the girl while playing tennis with Fred and wants to get a date with her for himself.
This is the story of our episode and where our trouble begins. This was a good episode with the surprise of Harriet trying to keep things from getting complicated was a nice twist.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Rick's Riding Lesson (1958)
"Do you think she has a sister who gives riding lessons?"
Young love and deception is what this episode is about. Ricky, Dave and Wally go horse back riding one day. Wally tells them he has been taking instructions from "an old geezer".
Harriet tells them hearing about a pretty girl instructor at the stables. Wally says he has never seen her and that someone must be kidding.
When they arrive, they discover a pretty blonde girl who is one of the instructors. Ricky, who already knows how to ride, decides the best way to get to know the girl is by making believe he doesn't know how to ride a horse.
This was a cute episode and very much in line with the humor of the series. There are a lot of good one liners in this episode and plenty of laughs. Ricky and the family sing some songs which are good.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Ozzie Spills the Beans (1958)
"Mr. Nelson's got all his beans."
Ozzie delivers another great episode with this one. The Men's Club is holding a dance to raise money for the Boys Club. The trouble is that they've sold most of the tickets and have not raised enough money. Doc Williams tells Ozzie they will hold an emergency meeting to solve the problem.
Harriet suggests they get a big jar of beans and charge everyone a quarter to guess how many are in the jar. The winner will win a prize. The Men's Club agrees to the idea and Ozzie is voted to be the bean counter.
Ozzie gets a big jar to put the beans in and enlists the help of Harriet and David.
This was another delightful and light hearted story. Ozzie always had a knack for coming up with great story ideas. I have always loved this show and this was a great episode.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Ozzie's Daughters (1958)
"Sit down and relax dad. You've got a big family to worry about tonight."
This was a funny episode. Ozzie has a such a talent for coming up with such unique and brilliant ideas.
The episode begins with Dave and Ricky packing to spend the night at the fraternity. Their dates are coming in from 60 miles out of town. Ozzie and Harriet will be watching over them and the boys are taking them to a dance.
Ozzie runs to the florist to pick up some flowers for the girls and meets Mr. Phillips, the father of Ginger. He tells Ozzie that having girls is different then having boys because you worry more. He fills Ozzie's head with all the things he worries about as a father. So this is how our story is set. Ozzie worries about the 2 girls that stay with them for the episode.
This story was filled with a lot of good lines and a lot of laughs. This is such an entertaining story that you will also enjoy.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Stealing Rick's Girl (1958)
"They've been talking on the phone for 1 hour and 47 minutes."
Wally is trying to rush a new pledge to the fraternity in order to get his mountain cabin at the lake for fraternity parties. He is a new student who just started there this term. Rick is also thinking about joining the fraternity and is also dating a new girl named Mary Jane Blake.
When Wally finds out that the new pledge, George is interested in a girl named Mary Jane Blake, David realizes that it is Rick's girl he likes. So Wally tries to arrange a date between George and Mary Jane.
This is a good episode. Very typical of Wally to pull a stunt like this. He was a wonderful addition to the cast as a semi regular.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Pony (1958)
Pony Contest Winner
Season 7 contains some of the best episodes of Ozzie with the kids of the neighborhood. "The Pony" is one of them.
Ozzie entered a name the pony contest that the Peters Tardy company was having and he picked the name "Taffy". Harriet is the one who is home when she finds out that Ozzie won the contest. The delivery men bring the pony right out to the house while Ozzie is gone. Ozzie is of course surprised to find out that he won. He decides to let one of the neighborhood kids win the pony in a little raffle contest.
This was a great episode. It was so delightful and light hearted. I love this season because Ozzie is getting involved with the neighborhood kids and little humorous situations like this arise.
