P.S. the description that accompanies each movie has nothing to do with their respective synopsis, rather, they are MY REASONS why I consider the movie to be worthy of a place in my movie bucket list.
Manananggal: beautiful lady in the morning, freaky half-bodied creature at night who seeks to literally eat your heart and organs out.
Kapre: A huge, dark demon with human-like characteristics who is always smoking gigantic cigars and lounging under trees. He's said to be not that aggressive compared to the Manananggal.
Engkanto: Kinda like the Elves from the western point of view. According to the elders If they like you, they'll do everything to take you with them. If they hate you, they'll do everything to torture you 'til you die.
White lady: A beautiful, white specter, with a hazy face. Turns out if you see her face, you'll stay mad forever.
Duwende: The dwarf. Said to mind his own business unless you disturb their peace.
Nuno sa Punso: I think this is a goblin. Said to curse you with illnesses unknown to medicine.
Tiyanak: troubled souls of little kids, especially those who were aborted. they're very cunning and take the form of cute infants to lure people into their trap.
Tikbalang: Head of a horse, body of a man. if you ask me it's like a centaur experiment gone awry.
Multo: The classic ghost. could take any form and do any kind of mischief.
These are the most common entities in the Philippines. If you're yearning for something more extreme (and if you've got the guts), get in touch with the lives of those living in provinces and you're sure to get a first class education (and if you're in luck, you might witness FIRSTHAND..) on various hair-raising legends, unique to each place. Stories that stick to your brain and won't let you sleep for fear that when you wake up, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, you might find them..sitting right next to you/standing right next to your bed/crouching in a corner somewhere and all are grinning MALICIOUSLY at you. n_n
Factor number two may be because horror movies never fail to incite in me the horrors and wonders of a person's mind and imagination. The endless debate between Psychology and the supernatural. Can Paranormal Psychology bridge the gap? Check these movies out and see for yourself. ;)
Geu nom-eun meot-iss-eoss-da (2004)
the cute and mysterious bad boy meets his match.
this movie is amazing!!! it'll have you laughing your head off and at the same time it'll touch your heart. really, i can't help but think. you know surely there is a certain soft side for every bad boy round the block. and all it takes to tame that one guy is for him to have his ideal girl. right? in the movie, he does have trouble expressing his feelings for her. but when opportunity comes knocking, he really is sugary sweet. you can't help but be awed by his sweetness and love for her. the most touching scene is when, he worked at night lifting bricks --- just to get her a present. like wow! the movie is downright funny, especially the first few scenes. like hello? imagine yourself running down the city streets... your head is still a huge jungle of salon wachamacallits!
