The Amazing Race (2001– )
Overwhelmed
9 January 2003
Not in a Flo way you understand, but this has to be my favourite 'game show' ever screened. I really wanted Ken & Gerard to win, but given a choice between Flo & Zach or Teri & Ian, I'm glad that Flo & Zach got it - at least that team had Zach as its' redeeming feature. The good news is that CBS in the US will start screening Amazing Race 4 in February 2003. I can't wait - this is a show that could just run and run. What a shame that only US citizens are accepted. I think that teams from different countries would give an additional dimension to the race.

This drama is so powerful, I feel that I am amongst friends.
27 October 2002
This epic brings together a superbly-gifted cast and crew, a narrative depth superior to most novels, wonderful music, philosophy and a connection to LIFE that I find difficult to explain. To immerse oneself in Die Zweite Heimat is for me akin to a spiritual experience, similar to the awe one gets when looking at the stars in a clear night sky. The language, and use of both colour and monochrome segments adds to the dramatic impact. The film inspired me to go to Munich and visit some of the locations, including the Edgar Reitz office. From then on, I vowed to improve my German skills - after Die Zweite Heimat I feel almost German, as if I am in the head of the characters. I also try to match the piano playing of Henry Arnold (Hermann), but this is the one thing that will always elude me ! This drama is unparalleled and I have been fortunate to see it on BBC2 in the UK and SBS in Australia. The sequel, Heimat 3, is currently being filmed in Germany.

The Betsy (1978)
One good reason to watch
13 April 2002
There's only one reason to watch this film. It's not the quality of the acting or the strength - or otherwise - of the plot. Rather, it's a study in excess, and my favourite excess in this film would have to come under L for lust. Kathleen Beller is extremely photogenic and I absolutely love the swimming pool scene !
