Point Break (2015)
3/10
Tough to sit through.

This movie lacked heart as well as any connection to the characters. Utah already being a known adrenaline junkie and extreme sports athlete leaves nothing left to develop with the lead character. He is just a bro with a badge hanging out with bros without one. Pappas served almost no purpose in this version, they might as well have written his character out completely instead of having him appear as an after thought on screen.

The color grading effect of increasing blues/greens while minimizing warm colors is all wrong for this film. Everyone looked like they had the flu most of the time. The stunts and location shots were pretty cool, but wasted on a film that desperately needed more substance if it wanted to prove better than the original Point Break. The acting was flat and the storyline was paper thin in my opinion.

YES, I love the original, but I gave this one a fair shot in hopes that it would impress me. It didn't. The original wasn't an Oscar picture, but it had so much heart and spirit in it you'd think it was a member of Bodhi's crew.

The Brotherhood of Justice (1986 TV Movie)
3/10
I wish I had known it was a TV Movie

This was pretty rough to watch. I ordered it through Amazon Prime and I didn't see anything that said it was a TV movie. About 30 minutes into it I realized it either had to have been made for TV or it was rated PG. It definitely had a layer of "After School Special" that I couldn't ignore. A movie about high schoolers with such clean mouths never makes sense to me.

It was fun to see so much future star power in the same cast, but the movie lacked the excitement I thought it would have based on the synopsis. I'm a Keanu fan, but even by Keanu standards his acting was horrendous. I did see many similarities between this movie and Point Break, which was interesting.

Overall the story was unique and even more so after learning it was based on true events. I just feel like it was executed poorly and the pacing was painfully slow through most of this. It also felt like it was filmed with a home video camera.

I would only recommend this movie for seeing these big names together so early in their careers, otherwise don't make an effort to watch this.

The Rookie (1990)

Had high hopes, but this is pretty hard to sit through.

Warning: Spoilers
I really wanted to like this movie because I'm a huge fan of Sheen and Eastwood. I thought the combination of the two would make for a very entertaining action flick. Unfortunately, I was wrong.

To me the whole thing felt like a random collection of individual scene ideas mashed together with little to no flow or adhesiveness. That, coupled with a script that doesn't allow Eastwood to go two sentences without a forced, usually unfunny joke, left me scratching my head as to what he was doing with this movie.

There were so many hints of "Dirty Harry", but they were abbreviated by campy dialogue and banter. This made Clint's character hard to pin down in my opinion. The action wasn't too bad, but the music paired with it in most sequences made them feel slow and boring. There was no intensity or accelerated pace provided by the music choices.

Overall I have to say the explosions were great, dialogue was awful, and any good acting in the film comes only from the top stars. Don't waste your time on this one.
