The Last Samurai (2003)
If you liked Braveheart and Saving Private Ryan, then check this movie out.
Superb acting by Tom Cruise and superb directing by Edward Zwick. This film takes place 1876. A very depressed decorated civil war soldier named Nathan Algren(Tom Cruise) is asked to go to Japan to train the Japanese men into shooting soldiers. During a battle with a Samurai. Another Samurai warrior(Ken Wantanbe) takes interest in him. When Algren wounded in battle. The Samurai leader takes him to there country. Where Algren soon learns to adapt. The best war movie so for. It's Braveheart and Dances With Wolves mix together almost. It had great scenery and great battle scenes. Also a great performance by Tom Cruise. And great acting by the rest of the cast. And terrific directing by Edward Zwick.
Brother Bear (2003)
Great story with great animation.
Disney has done it again with another great animated story. The movie starts out with a young named Kenai(well voiced by Joaquin Phoenix) who believes that bear is the cause for his older brothers death. But when he finally takes his revenge. The spirits magically transform him into a bear. Kenai must go on a journey to get himself back to normal. During that time he meets up with a cub bear named Koda(Jeremy Suarez). A great film for the whole family, it's touching as well has funny. With memorable characters. Don't miss it.
Don't listen to the critics, go see this movie and form your own opinion.
Jim Carrey was The Grinch, and know Mike Myers is The Cat In The Hat. A good kids story taken from the pages of Dr.Seuss. A magical feline(well played by Mike Myers) goes in the home of two siblings named Conrad(Spencer Breslin from last years The Santa Clause 2) and Sally(Dakota Fanning from this years Uptown Girls) and tries to teach them on how to have a fun time, while there mother(Kelly Preston) is at work. But what happens when there scumbag neighbor(perfectly well played by Alec Baldwin) begins to suspect what there up to, and trying to woo there mother at the same time. I liked this movie, it is not overacted like The Grinch was. Mike Myers plays the part in his own way, and his own comic style. And it also had cool special effects. I don't care what the other critics say, I liked this movie.
Will Ferrell is at his funniest. He plays Buddy, an ordinary human who was raised by elves in the North Pole at Santas workshop. When Buddy feels that he is not fitting in. He advised by elf stepfather(Bob Newhart) to go to New York City to find his real father named Walter Hobbs(James Caan). But Buddy has yet to discover that this world is very different from the world he grew up in. A great holiday movie since The Santa Clause. It's funny and touching, that makes you feel good about the holidays. A really must see
Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica (2003)
Married life is not perfect.
Even if your famous. Why Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey would ever agree to have a reality show on there life. But it kinda shows that Jessica is beautiful and sweet, but shows she can be whinny and complain a lot. And Nick can prince charming most of of it, but it shows he can be irritably and brash for the other part. Will they stay together? Only time will tell. Will this show last? Probably not long enough. But it really shows, that even famous married people have there up and downs like everybody else.
IT'S JUST A TRULY GREAT FILM.
I thought Uptown Girls was the most touching movies of 2003. But after seeing this movie, I now think it comes in a tie with Uptown Girls. It's perfectly well acted by Ed Harris and Cuba Gooding Jr. The story is set in 1976,football coach Harold Jones(Ed Harris) is hard drivin in pratice, he seems to have very little time for his wife and daughter(Debra Winger and Sarah Drew). But his view on life begins to change, when he meets James Robert Kennedy(Cuba Gooding Jr) who has a very slow learning process. Harold asks him to come to practice and help out a little. The two form a friendship, and Harold gives him the nickname Radio. But they soon begin to learn a lot from each other. A very beautiful film. That teaches us a lot about the human spirit. I shore hope that Cuba Gooding Jr gets nominated for an oscar.
Good Boy! (2003)
It's My Dog Skip meets E.T.
This is a very entertaining lighthearted film, it's for anybody who has a pet. 12 year old Owen Baker(Liam Aiken) is a very lonely boy, who's best friends so far seem to be the neighbors dogs he walks everyday. Owen really wants one of his own. One day his parents take him to the pound to get one. He finds a cute dog and names him Hubble. But Owen slowly discovers, this is no ordinary dog. Who just happens to be a very intelligent dog from outer space. A pure delight for the whole family. Matthew Broderick is also good as the voice of Hubble. It's funny and delightful. Please don't quit making movies like this.
THE MOST EXCITING ONE OF ALL.
It takes place several weeks later. David Banner find refuge when a rich family takes him in, David takes on a new alias, and also strikes a friendship with a young lady(Laurie Prange) who seems to have trouble walking. But David soon suspects that the medicine her rich family is giving her might be poison. They soon try to get rid of him. But what they'll find out, making him anger will be a big mistake. Bill Bixby always gives great performance has the charming but sad David Banner. Not even Eric Bana played the part as good as Bill Bixby did. Lou Ferrigno is always good as the anger but sensitve monster. This episode has great tension, and action. Also an exciting scene where the hulk slugs it out with a grizzly bear. In a way it puts the 2003 to shame.
Jeepers Creepers II (2003)
This should have been part one.
I mean this one was more exciting then the first, and we got to know the creeper a little. It takes place several days after the first one. The Creeper traps a bunch of teenagers on a school bus. The teenagers are filled with fear on how are they gonna think there way out of this. During that time a father(Ray Wise) is hot the creepers trail, wants for revenge for killing his son. It kinda reminds you of Jaws 2 almost. It was exciting, with heart pounding suspence, and a little humor mixed in. I can't wait for this come out on DVD.
Out of Time (2003)
Denzel Washington maybe out of time, but not out of an enjoyable thriller.
This movie has it. Humor, tension, and suspence. Matt Whitlock(Denzel Washington) who is the chief of police in Miami, discovers that a woman he has been secretly seeing (Sanaa Lathan) and her husband (Dean Cain) where burned to death in there house. But as he begins to investigate, he must get rid of the evidence of their affair, before his soon to be ex-wife(Eva Mendes) also a detective, begin to close in on him, and they name him the big suspect. Okay maybe the plot seems similar to No Way Out(1987), but in some ways it's different. It has some cool plot twists. Denzel is memorable as always, so is the rest of the cast. Enjoy the film Denzel fans.
