The following is a list of films that never received an official release in their uncut forms, or "director's cut" if you will. While it is widely known that director's rarely have "final cut" on their film, they hopefully get to release their preferred version out of the material that was shot, without interference from a studio or the MPAA. This list includes films in which a director completed their preferred cut of the film, but this version was ultimately compromised to obtain a specific rating or appease producers. In some cases, the cut footage was lost, but in others, the footage exists on home video releases in other countries or the money has not been spent to re-insert it back into the film. Some of these films received uncut releases on VHS in America, but I've included all films that have not received an uncut release on either DVD or Blu-ray in the US.

Most of the information gathered to formulate this list was taken from the trivia section on IMDb, Wikipedia or movie-censorship.com.

This is a growing list so if you can think of a title I left out then feel free to leave a comment and I will add. When a film is added or removed it will be noted here:

06/06/16 - Added Freddy Got Fingered (2001)
05/31/16 - Added Nighthawks (1981)
04/07/16 - Added Hisss (2010)
02/29/16 - Added The House on Sorority Row (1983)

These are films which I believe should get the honored Criterion treatment. I don't necessarily enjoy all these films, but they strike me as the type that would be released by the brand, particularly because they are either art-house films, currently out of print in the US, only released in a censored version and/or never officially released in the US. I would of course love for all my favorite films to be released by the company but these are the types of films they usually release.

a list of 28 titles
These are the films I enjoy which I consider to be arthouse/experiential films. In order to be considered they must a) have a non-linear/subjective storyline, b) strong imagery, and c) not made for mainstream audiences. If anyone has suggestions for other titles I'm definitely open.
