This movie is great, and is definitely the best movie I have seen so far this year. The only problem I have with this movie is that there are a few cliche parts that we have already seen before in many other movies. But this movie does so well in it's other scenes, the cliche parts don't even bother you. I was not at all expecting some of the twists this movie takes you through, and it gave this movie a very real feeling to it, that many "visitor from other planet" movies don't have.
Everyone in the audience was certain this guy was from K-PAX - I mean, that's what always happens, right? The guy no ones believes is an alien really is one. Wrong. At the end of this movie he turns out to be something very different. The best part of this movie is where you kind of go back and forth from thinking, he's a nutcase, then, well, maybe he really is from K-PAX.
There were many emotional scenes I was not expecting that really made this movie all the better. I just loved the twist they gave in the middle/end of the movie, it was totally unexpected. Not even hinted at in the previews. Bravo.
Go see this movie while it's still in theaters, but if you for some reason miss that opportunity (which you shouldn't), just go rent it when it comes out. You'll probably end up wanting to own it, I know I do.
Office Space (1999)
This has to be one of the best movies ever made. This movie is absolutely hilarious, in every form of the word. Everyone needs to see this movie, they need to experience it. I don't know what else I can say, I haven't a single problem with this movie.
Enemy of the State (1998)
This has to be one of the best movies I have ever seen. Certainly one of the best, if not the best movie of the 90's, along with Office Space, Jurassic Park, and Terminator 2, to name a few. Though I want to make one thing clear, I am NOT a Will Smith fan. A lot of reviewers go on about how they love Will Smith, and saw the movie just for him. Will Smith is a good actor, but a lot of things he does simply suck. I feel he has made some of the worst music ever created, and has done some very bad movies and TV Shows (Fresh Prince of Bel Air...that show makes me vomit). Now that I have made this clear, I can go on with the review.
Though, as unfond of Will Smith as I can be, I have no problem with his performance here. I actually think he does a terrific job, as he does in Indepedence Day, but other than that, well, you get it. Gene Hackman also does an outstanding job as does everyone else. The acting in this movie is great.
The storyline in this movie is as far as I can tell, pretty original. But I'm sure someone somewhere knows about a movie that they "totally ripped off", as it seems it is the same situation with every movie. But whatever, it doesn't matter. The storyline is so compelling it will get you absolutely stuck in it. Irrisistable.
All in all, this movie is fantastic. Great chase scenes, and an incredible ending. This is one of my all time favorites, and everyone should rent this movie and see if they like it. And remember, there watching you...(it's cheesy, but since almost every reviewer has done I felt the need to include it.)
Nick of Time (1995)
Nick of Time was a good movie, but it could have been a lot better. For instance, I'd like to have heard more about the actual motive to kill the Governor. It was just kind of like, well, there was a conspiracy. But what was the motive behind the conspiracy? With such a huge part of the plot unanswered, it's hard to give this movie an incredibly great review.
Another problem I had with this movie was that it started off a bit too fast. There was nothing primal about it - no hint as to what Watson's personal life was like. We don't find out that his ex-wife had died until later on in the movie, for better or for worse. I'd like to have seen more of his personal life and possibly planning of the asassination - maybe that would clear up some of the plot questions too. But, one could argue that if they told too much of the plot in the beginning there wouldn't be anything shocking about finding out who all was in on the conspiracy. Either way, I still would've liked to seen a good half hour before where the movie actually starts out as to getting to know the characters a little better.
But all that aside, I did think this was a good movie, definitely worth a rent. I don't have any plans to go out and buy this movie, though. This movie was good, but it could have been better.
