I know Michael Straczynski as an old school sci-fi era, and I was wondering how well he would do with a more modern sci-fi show. For me at least, he nails it perfectly.
During the first season, Straczynski takes his time toying with the show's premise, exploring the characters, their pasts, their personal issues, relationships and connections, while the main plot develops at a bit slower pace then we're used to in modern shows. Result is a sense of richness, both regarding the characters, the setting and the multitude of side plots that unravel. Show never gets too serious, too philosophical or too dark. There is always a light humorous overtone, but it never gets ridiculous or unbelievable.
Production is overall on a much higher lever then I expected, acting is good, and all in all, I can say it is one of the better shows I have stumbled upon in the last few years.
Highly recommended.
