Dhoom:3 (2013)
Why Exact Revenge?
I really enjoy a nice Bollywood Masala movie any time. But Dhoom 3 was a Bollywood Masala movie alright but definitely not a nice one. Aamir Khan is definitely a great actor, but there was a surfeit of Aamir Khan in this movie and it just got tedious. Here is a short review – a bank that had been funding the Great Indian Circus chooses not to fund it anymore because the Circus is not making profit. A very good reason to stop funding right? The owner of the Circus (Jackie Shroff) holds a special show for the Bank authorities as a last ditch effort and decides to play a trump card and show a stupendous magic trick to the bank managers in the hope that they don't withdraw the funding. But that fails because the manager is not really that impressed. The story thereafter is all about the son taking revenge on the bank and its manager years later! Absurd isn't it? The son's only intention is to bring the bank down. If the movie actually showed the tricks and intricacies involved in the robbery instead of some cheap shots of our hero playing with a large monitor, having tricked the police to get access to and get the blue print of the bank and those very tedious motor cycle chases after the robbery, the story line would have been somewhat plausible. Although I still don't understand the entire purpose of exacting the revenge! And then there is Katrina. She appears to be the glamor quotient – but then why can't they have taken a female lead who can actually dance?! Her gyrations in the so called dances seem awkward and at times actually cringe worthy. She had no other role to play except 'dance'. Abhishek Bacchan looks amazing and smart. But even his role in the movie is questionable. Why should and Indian police officer be called upon to catch the bank thief only because the message the robber leaves is in Hindi is beyond me – and that too as the lead detective/officer! The tale ends in a disappointing note! How does Abhishek manage to catch the robber? We are not told that. The motor cycle and car chase in all the chase sequences resemble those that we see in high end pc games. A totally disappointing fare with too much of Aamir and too less of credibility!
