I Am Sam (2001)
Amazing, heart-felt, tear-jurking
Sean Penn is fantastic, Fanning is adorable and Pfeiffer is lovely. All three actors combined make this film shine. But I would like to give most of my praise to Sean Penn who is absolutely amazing in this film. I had to come on the internet and find out about him instantly as I was sure there must have been something wrong with him as his acting was so believable. I am surprised I have never heard much of this actor and think his performance is one to be remembered. Fanning is beautiful and so talented especially at such a young age, and yet her youth still manages to come through her mature acting. Pfeiffer plays her character well also, managing to show the pain that lawyer is in and how much she learns from a mentally retarded man.
This film not only is emotionally striking, but it makes you really think about it afterwards. And, after all that it still manages to have a happy ending which is just cream on top of the cake!
Much Ado About Nothing (1993)
I have never laughed so much!
I remember watching this filmas a little child with my elder sister and even then I was able to understand the story and humour so cleverly written by Shakespeare because of the absolutely amazing acting. It had been a while since I had seen it and so the other day I decided to watch it again, and I cannot remember the last time I had laughed so much.
I feel that out of the whole film one actor stands out significantly and that is Kenneth Branagh. He is unbelievable and brings to life the long monologues that should I have read them would most certainly have not brought out the character and life he gave them. My favourite scene is that of when he is in the garden over hearing the purpously loud conversation of the Prince and two other men (Claudio and Hero's father I think) which leads him to believe his enemy Beatrice is inlove with him. The reaction Brannagh shows to this is spot on, as is his character throughout the whole film. All the cast are magnificent and even though Keanu Reeves is so badly recieved by most of the audience, I think he deserves some credit as to at least trying to give his character an interesting turn as his evilness gives a good contrast against the other more light hearted characters. And afterall, he looks good on the screen so I don't know why everyone's complaining! A great watch, a great film and a great story! Shakespeare shines through this adaption! WATCH IT!!!!
The Count of Monte Cristo (2002)
What can I say?
This film enchanted me from the start to the end. The first scene caught my attention and kept it till the last. Caviezel is fine, dark and handsome, Pierce is striking, confident and believable and Harris leaves us great acting to remember him by. This can be the only film I know of that has adventure, action, hate, love, revenge and a happy ending all in one, resulting in you feeling excelled with happiness and hope. One to definietly see.
A Walk in the Clouds (1995)
Romantic but soppy
I have seen better but this film is a nice watch if you're feeling romantic and want it to end with a smile on your face. Although the acting can be disappointing and some scenes make you cringe at the total amercanised soppiness of it, it can make you giggle and feel all round happy. What you need to watch out for the most is the music which is truly beautiful and adds those finishing touches to the romantic film.
