Doctor Who: The Ghost Monument (2018)
The BBC needs to find more and better writers
The good - Excellent production values: cinematography, editing, visual effects (CGI or traditional). It is obvious that the BBC allocates a big budget per episode and that the production team give their all. Very good acting so far by Jodie (I still need to see how she will approach the darker scripts) and I love Bradley Walsh.
The bad - I don't care much about the other two actors who play the companions, but this is not the main issue. The big problem here is the writing: the stories are more suitable for children TV than for an adult audience. They are very simplistic, with good guy (doctor) saving the world from bad guy (monster). Not the complex, bizarre, spooky, suspenseful, weird and very imaginative stories we sometimes saw in the previous seasons. And no matter how amazing production values are there and how good actors, nothing can save a bad script.
It is a pity, because there are so many people out there with wonderful and extremely creative ideas about Doctor Who stories. Why isn't the BBC taking advantage of this, and only uses a handful of writers who don't currently seem very creative? Why not bring in fresh ideas from more contributors? Even Moffat, who is a wonderful writer, was running out of ideas towards the end.
