I've caught a glimpse of Fargo on TV and i decided not to watch it half way through but really enjoy it from beginning to the end. And i loved it. The most amazing thing here are the always lovable characters. You're gonna commiserate with those who are lost and find sympathy in those most crooked. They are all well casted, perfectly played and most importantly real. the dialogue is what keeps this movie witty till the end. The little exchange of words between the characters is amazingly written. what starts off as a well thought out plan spins out of control very quickly but it wont catch you off guard. its a movie definitely worth watching for all its traits- writing, directing, characters, dialogue, the cold scenery. its one of those movies that leave you with a feeling of time well spent and art very much enjoyably consumed.
Sex Drive (2008)
Well, not bad.
I cant agree with some that this move is hilarious but its very funny and does meet expectations when it comes to these kind of films. you get tits, penis jokes, weird characters and unexpected situations. its a road trip movie about friends and the awkward people they meet one the way. you've seen the story, you're familiar with the outcome and kind already see who is gonna fall in love or just bang who. but the little parts, the details and characters you do see for the first time do add up to the very entertaining atmosphere and good laughs. watch it i if you wanna relax, have a good time, with friends or whatever. its worth your time. you're not gonna feel like you wasted it.
Very Bad Things (1998)
I dot get why it got such a poor rating at IMDb. I saw the movie not knowing anything about it and i loved it, to say the least. Its a good cast first of all and the story is just great. The movie is a celebration of moments that will make you laugh and a second later think, what did i just see. Its spiraling out of control just as fast as it should to make all the sense it needs to. What starts off as a simple plan just cant stay that simple. Peter Berg did a great thing writing and directing the movie and make it a continuous flow of unexpected twists and turns that keep on surprising you.
This a great movie i enjoyed very much and that i will recommend.
The Girl Next Door (2004)
What i expect from teenage comedies is nudity, fart jokes and people crashing into things and falling over. don't get me wrong, i like good movies, but i wanted to watch something stupid and relax and instead i got this movie, filled with emotions and touchy feely scenes. Its fun, there are memorable characters and the story goes pretty well to places unseen before. Its just not what you'd expect. I would have loved it more with a few more laughs and a story not entirely focused on two people madly in love and then painfully split up and then getting back together and all that. The cast was great, watching this movie after watching Into the wild really put my focus on Emile and i came to realize why he remained popular and re-cast as he is a pretty good actor. His love interest, played by Elisha is also a great cast- but so is the rest of the crew. Soundtrack fits perfectly into the scenes and is well done. To sum it all up- its a different kind of teen-comedy, more on the feelings and the stupid things kids do for love. I'm just to skeptic to believe in all of it. And i was hoping for a movie a bit more stupid and relaxed than this.
Grosse Pointe Blank (1997)
Rarely does a movie entertain, make you laugh, keep you hooked with lovable characters and on top if it all, it relaxes. I've watched it a long time ago and it stuck with me, somewhere in the back of my head and i decided to give it another view just now. This movie is simple so you're gonna love it after a hard day just to ease your mind and relax. The characters are simple people who have their past and present explored and who find themselves in the process. Its not about issues and unresolved problems, drama and pain. There is no place for that in this kind of filming. Its up there with Mumford, another movie i liked which shares the traits- a movie made to ease your mind and feel good after watching it.
Anna Karenina (2012)
Very hard to watch.
I understand the awe of the people who have read and fallen in love with the novel. Im a literature major myself but this piece of work never was my genre. Russian realism is full of details, very eloquent and very very emotional. And that's what this movie is as well. Only those who like the novel will find some joy in its depiction on screen but for others this will be a very long experience. Overreactions, to much drama around acting, to much emphasizing pain and despair and hate makes this movie painful and desperate and hated. Its a movie that focuses a lot on overemphasis the hard life and along the way you will loose sympathy for the characters and just wait for it to end so you can get on with your life. Ladies in their 40's and 50's might find it touching and emotional, but that is all. Its just not speaking to the audience.
What did you expect?
I read a lot of bad reviews about this movie and a lot of jokes about the whole 'making a movie based on 'battleship' thing'. But when it said 'from the makers of Transformers', did you really expect something more than 130 minutes of special effects? Do you really go pay to watch a movie with deep characters good laughs and memorable action- nope, if your'e smart, you know exactly what you're paying for. Apart from the introduction, this movie is exactly what its suppose to be, big things shooting at other big things, large explosions, building falling down, and a lot of noise. Visually, there is a lot of dedication here in making destruction seem believable. Of course, you gotta have those cheesy moments of inspiration, dramatic music, the hero returns- just emphasizing how predictable it is and how many times you've seen it before. Ill recommend it to anyone who wants an action movie, who doesn't care about memorable characters or Oscar worthy performances. This movie does not even try to bring that up, it knows what its good for, it puts its focus on it and executes its goals pretty good.
Space Jam (1996)
milestone of childhood
This movie has defined generations. Kids loved it because this dude who was a good sports player got to play with these loony tones which is what the movie was all about. Its not about MJ, its not about Bugs Bunny, its not about a deep storyline or memorable characters. Its about fun and cartoons, which barely ever make sense, if you remember. Its great fun for the young folks out there, with animation that really is worth watching. Its entertainment for the entire family, combining real life with cartoons as its never done before. I love it, ill always love it. Looks like i have to add a few lines for this review to be accepted and posted. I really have nothing else to add, go ahead and watch it without expecting nothing more than fun and entertainment and you will get far more then you expect.
Thank You for Smoking (2005)
great piece of writing
I appreciate a lot what the director does, which is in this case really good work and a lot of dedication. but the writing in this one is just what keeps me remembering this movie. you've seen movies about lawyers, cops, astronauts, firemen, but how many movies are there about a spokesperson. It being the first one (i doubt its the first one ever, but for the sake of the argument) a lot had to be done in making you like this character doomed and for good reasons hated by everyone else. You might hate him in real life, but not here. Its a man who has a job, who is good at is, who likes it and tries to live a normal life. things, naturally go out of control a bit, but you still continue rooting for him. I recommend this movie highly. i regret not watching it earlier actually. Its dialog based, funny with its own jokes and very nice acting worthy of such a movie.
The Divide (2011)
The Divide leaves me divided
I've been expecting this movie ever since I've seen the trailer hoping to see a psychological thriller that is gonna explore the dark human psyche when on edge of existence, a theme often seen in movies. At the beginning its off to a good start, questions remain unanswered and there's a part of you hooked trying to figure out wheres it gonna go next and what is this new part gonna drive the plot towards. But as it goes along, the movie descends into madness very fast. It becomes very dark, goreish and messy sooner than you hoped for which kinda leaves you surprised. The acting is superb in some characters which have their stories from before the events of the movie start, and some characters are flat and very dull, seemingly there just to create one chaos after the other. Im trying to rate the movie without giving out any spoilers. I haven't regretted watching it, it thought it was good entertainment. There was more violence than i expected, which does not bother me personally but might bother some. I just hoped for something better than i got.
