Originally hailing from Long Beach Island NJ, Mary Birdsong (yes, that's her real name) was voted one of the "TOP 10 TALENTS ON THE RISE" by the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. She was recently directed by Oscar-winning director Alexander Payne in the Fox Searchlight feature "The Descendants" opposite George Clooney. She also performed on Broadway alongside comedic legend Martin Short in Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me for which she won the prestigious THEATRE WORLD AWARD. Mary is best-known as "Deputy Kimball" in the hit tv series Reno 911 on Comedy Central, which many fans do not realize is all-improvised. Mary graduated from NYUs Tisch School of the Arts where she earned her BFA in acting, and was also awarded the Stella Adler Award for Outstanding Achievement in Acting. She has performed in several other shows on Comedy Central, including The Daily Show w/Jon Stewart, "Lewis Black's 'The Root Of All Evil'" (with Patton Oswalt), "Contest Searchlight" (w/"Rescue Me's" Dennis Leary) as well as the CBS tv pilot "Rubbing Charlie" (with Jenna Fisher & Scott Wolfe), a FOX tv pilot by Eric Gilliland (Roseanne, That 70's Show, Mr. Sunshine) opposite James Caan and Jill Clayburgh). She also starred as Connie opposite comic Jim Gaffigan and Christine Baranski in the CBS tv series "Welcome to New York," on NBCs ED & appeared as a guest (herself) on "Late Night With Conan OBrien." Mary also is a survivor of working with Howard Stern several times (fully clothed), and guess what? It's just as they say-- He's really a big shy pussycat. He never once asked her to bend or shoot anything out from between her leg. She wasn't sure if she should be flattered or insulted. As a writer, Mary has created a nearly infinite number of original characters for the NBC sketch comedy/standup shows "Live On Tape" & "Late Friday;" "The Howard Stern Show" on E!, as well as Comedy Central's "Crossballs." But Mary is no stranger to the legitimate stage. She trod the boards in the very UN-legitimate role of Vixen Fox (porn star!) in Elaine Mays off-Broadway comedy Adult Entertainment with Danny Aiello and Jeannie Berlin in NYC Off-Broadway. Other favorite theatre roles include "Portia" in Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" (directed by Gregory Wolfe, Off-Bway), and Judy Garland in her orginal one-woman show Judy Speaks at the Ars Nova Theatre in New York City (also directed by Wolfe). In that show, Mary channeled the legend of song and screen Judy Garland, by singing over 12 hits Garland made famous, and exploring the bootleg recordings recently discovered in which Judy was struggling to write her auto-biography after the demise of her canceled (but critically acclaimed) CBS variety show. Mary received widespread critical acclaim for that show, and was picked to perform it as part of HBO's annual Aspen Comedy Festival. For that appearance she was given the Hollywood Reporter award mentioned above. She also wrote & starred in a series of one-acts for two of her beloved alter-egos-- the washed-up 1940s B-movie star Janet Lam (the Charlie Sheen of her day, if Charlie was a boozy, fast-talking dame), and the 99 Cent Whore- who is a cross between Loretta Lynn and Tenacious D. Fans can download 99 Cent Whore rock songs at Mary's website: marybirdsong.com, or at myspace.com/99centwhore. Her voice can also be heard on many a commercial and several animated shows. And keep an eye out for Birdsong's latest, her one-woman comedy tell-all about her relationship with her much-loved and somewhat crazy Southern mama -- "3 Days In The Tub: A Mama Drama."
