Hugely Engaging and Refreshingly Open Genre Film - I can't wait to see more
I don't have any personal affiliation with grief or missing persons however this film really stuck with me long after I watched it.
I found the story really affecting and brilliantly executed with the horror being a by-product of the story. It's refreshing to watch a film not using dialogue as filler between effects.
A little bit Larry Fessenden-esque (not just because of the mention of Wendigo and Doug Jones) but because the characters were so developed and engaging.
With such a small budget I thought the effects were incredibly powerful and subtle and achieved the perfect balance between what could be potentially psychosis/memory/actual events.
We really need more well written scripts and character focused direction like this being introduced into the genre. It will be fantastic to see what Mike Flanagan does with a bigger budget.
