Best Horror Film Ever!!
This is the best horror film you will see. FACT. it is that type of horror film that will set the standards for any other horror films.
In my opinion John Carpenter got the tension and suspense just right because in the process he has created one iconic character in the form of the malevolent and psychopathic serial killers known only as Michael Myers. This film should be in every Film lover's D.V.D or video collection because you will not find a better horror movie that features a serial killer. Throughout the film the tension is always built up. However, throughout the film there is always a brooding atmosphere that is continually built up towards the final and scariest scene. Donald Pleasance is outstanding as Dr Loomis and in my opinion is as sinister as Michael Myers even though he is there to help our heroine. However, he and Michael Myers are my favourite characters in the film because they have more of an impact on me. I like the whole "Heroine in Danger" routine but I just do not think that you will find a better Rivalry in Horror films compared to that of Dr Loomis and Michael Myers. The idyllic setting of this film is even the more terrifying because it looks safe and the sun is always shining and it looks like a friendly neighbourhood that in my opinion is more scary than the film always taking place at night. Jamie Leigh Curtis is the best heroine who has ever been on film. none can surpass her as the greatest scream queen(in my opinion)not even Marian Crane from "Psycho" Michael Myers is the best serial killer in film because he is a lot more sinister and scary than Jason Voorhees. And he is still scary in all the films he has done compared to Freddy Krueger who just became a shadow of his former self. In my opinion Michael Myers is the better character because he, unlike many serial killers is motiveless and is a lot more terrifying than any of the other serial killers in horror films. In conclusion, I believe that "Halloween" is the best horror film because it is scary and terrifying and it is one of the most enjoyable films I have seen and I am proud to have this film on D.V.D.
One of the best horror movies ever
I love the "Ring" because it is the epitome of what horror films should be. It builds up tension and suspense that is sadly lacking in the modern horror films. Even the American remake of this film is sadly lacking the edge that was needed to be a successful remake(also it was boring and it was in the English language)
What made "Ring" brilliant was the locations. Japan looked spectacular it looked amazing and even though some of the scenes took place away from the bustling city(The islands look amazing)
This was the first subtitled film I had seen and it has got me more and more interested in subtitled films(Which added to the tension because it was like reading a visualised book)and this film made me realise that all modern American movies were riddled with Clichés it was unbelievable. It also made me realise that modern horrors were trying to create an iconic character that will be remembered and they all fail(Except the "Creeper" from "Jeepers Creepers") which was both scary and original in terms of satisfaction and if it will be remembered. What I like about this film is that both the female main character(Nanako Matsushima) and the male character(Hiroyuki Takayama)are central to the plot because all the fear,Tension, and suspense revolves around them and whatever situations they find themselves in. What makes this an iconic horror movie(In my opinion)is the REALLY scary spirit;who is called "SADAKO" she is one of the scariest characters to ever appear in a horror movie she is in the same league as Leatherface from "THE Texas CHAINSAW MASSACRE" and Michael Myers from the "HALLOWEEN" films. One other aspect of this film I like is it is an original idea. The idea of a cursed video tape that will kill anyone within seven days of it being viewed and has spawned many other ideas(FEAR DOT COM cursed website) and many more.
In Conclusion, I believe that if you want a decent horror film for Halloween go for this film and remember it for being a great modern day horror that has put Japan on the map and we as a film watching nation should always be open minded about foreign language horror and not be satisfied with over used Clichés that are raining down on modern day horror films.
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
When I think of "Dawn of the dead" I think of the original featuring Ken Foree and Scott Reiniger. However this version is more of a film that has a doomsday feeling to it because the initial tone of the film is a lot more fast paced and the zombies seem to have speeder up and are a lot more dangerous and psychotic than their lumbering counterparts in the original.
Sarah Polley is great as the main character while Ving Rhames is great as the disgruntled police officer and Jake Weber,Mekhi Phifer, and Lindy Booth are great counterparts who add their own credentials to the production in their Zombie infested hellhole where they are situated. This version of the film has been trimmed considerably from the original in which that focused on the isolation and how would you fill the time if you had an abandoned mall while on the flip side this one focuses more on the action and not the mental side of it all just like the first one did. However, a new addition to the film were the Zombies who instead of lumbering aimlessly around they attack with a ferocity like no other. However, one thing I like about this film is the use of different ideas within the film. and toys with different scenarios on how to escape and does not resort to a scene by scene remake of a film done oh so poorly by Gus van Sant in the 1998 version of "Psycho" that film made me laugh. However, when watching I do feel that the narrative is a little weak and is not as well made as the original and the other characterised are just there to be Zombie chow therefore, allowing the main characters escape.
In conclusion it is a well made film that is worth buying on D.V.D but if you want a memorable zombie film I recommend the original
Saw II (2005)
I first watched this film when it came onto D.V.D. it was 3.30 in the morning and i was waiting all day to watch it. I stuck it in the player and after about an hour I thought "Oh this film is rubbish!" the lighting is as dark and moody as ever this is the best thing because the story is more hollow than a eggshell.
There are a lot more characters this time However, Jigsaw turns up and so does his malevolent wooden doll. The film is NOT scary and it cannot compare to "SAW" because the film features more on the action than the shock and suspense of classics such as "HALLOWEEN" and "THE Texas CHAINSAW MASSACRE" Erik Knudsen provides a decent portrayal as an innocent caught up in the brutality of Jigsaw's games. Donnie Wahlberg however, plays Detective Eric Matthews With a realism that is a reflection of the British Police (Well Meaning and willing to do anything to get their man or woman for that matter) Shawnee smith is great as the female protagonist because you know she isn't like the others due to the fact that she tries to protect Daniel Matthews (Eric Knudsen) One of the best things about this film is the creativity in the death traps. They are a lot more creative than the original however, the way the traps are laid out within the film give me an impression that the director wanted to create an action flick instead of a horror.
In conclusion, "SAW 2" is a sequel not to be taken seriously because if you are expecting a horror film you will be disappointed
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
best Zombie film ever!
I love this movie!! this is one of the best, if not THE best horror film that ever was made from the day I am writing this to the day I die. Some people may say that I am over reacting but I do not think so. The initial idea of the film is one of the best because even though the film is based in a shopping mall they are still isolated from the outside world because of the fact there may not be any help arriving and there are flesh eating zombies trying to chow down upon them. Aside from this fact I still believe that this film is one of the best horror films ever made much better than the remake(Which was good but cannot compare to this awesome film)I also like the way the four lead characters conduct themselves within the movie. For Example, there are Flesh eating hordes after them and they still remain true to not only surviving but with dignity(They look after each other and do not kill each other only if one of them turns into a zombie)However, I still believe the chemistry between the characters is so believable it seems that they have known each other longer than when all first meet each other. IN the film you can see that the actors are obviously enjoying themselves(I know I would if I had an abandoned shopping mall to myself)Director George.A.Romero really captures the actor's individual personalities within the film because the character's are so believable within the film that I believe if a zombie plague does occur I would want the two POlice officers protecting me from the flesh eating undead. In conclusion I believe that this film is a must for any D.V.D collection it comes highly recommended from me and i believe that millions of people around the world will agree with me.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
a cut above the rest!!!
How brilliant is this film? it is basically the epitome of all horror movies because it builds suspense and atmosphere in which most horror movies could think of.Add this to a genuine and believable serial killer like Leatherface (and his Macabre and malevolent family) and a camper van full of teenagers then you should have a decent serial killer Flick. Most modern films rely too much on Blood and gore and a motive(WHY IS THIS?) for a serial killer too have. But in my opinion a decent weapon for a serial killer(Chainsaw was probably the one I ad to look away from when watching this film) and a motiveless serial killer then I believe that makes a genuine scary movie that will live on and on
Star Wars (1977)
great sci fiction film recommend it to everyone
I like this film because it is a mix of energetic action scenes and a decent Narrative(Some action films you don't get any). The film in itself made "Sci-fi" seem cool who knew that you could invent planets and species up and not be classed as a nerd or a geek or a weird person. The film is home to one of the best bad guys ever in the form of Darth Vader. His deep booming voice exudes itself in the corridors of the death star in which it makes the crew realise he is the BOSS and there will be know other like him. Luke Skywalker and Han solo make a formidable team but no one can compare in staring to Becca but sometimes his incessant groaning gets on me. Carrie Fisher provides good support as princess Leia but it is Mark Hamill who steals the show as Luke Skywalker
