The Wild (2006)
Save time, rent Madagascar instead...
It's a pity there isn't a rating lower than 1. I went to see this at the theatre with my 4 year old. We lasted about 20 minutes before he wanted to leave, I'd already packed our stuff.
Because the animators tried to make the animals realistic instead of stylised it really showed up the poor use of physics. The running and jumping had no real weight to them - two ton lions changing direction in mid leap, that sort of thing.
Thinking that I'd judged too quickly at the theatre I got the DVD out from the store. Even though I work at the video store I want my money back! The stuff with the levitating koala at the end is pretty funny, even though its a complete rip off of Return Of The Jedi. In fact it seems to draw from a few other movies for plot and scenario. Madagascar and The Lion King jump immediately to mind (just replace Scar the Lion with a looney Wildebeest thing - they even have the same bung eye). It certainly wouldn't be the first time that Disney ripped off others.
Nigel the koala is a confusing to me, come to think of it. The voice actor, Eddie Izzard is amazing comedian and actor. But why get an English actor to play an Australian koala? You might argue that he was bred in an English zoo. I'd answer that nothing else in this movie has any real depth, so you're probably thinking too hard!
