Knight and Day (2010)
Fun, fun movie! What's with the negative reactions? We give it our thumbs up approval :-)
I was surprised to find that this movie didn't do well in the box office. Also, that it received much negative feedback. I just watched it with my girlfriends and had a great time! Don't expect Shakespeare or Schindler's. I think only those people who expected to see such in the movie are the ones terribly disappointed and *ahem* violent with their reactions. It's a fun movie. It elicited laughs from us and a couple of times, some people from the audience clapped! Ha! Ha! The action scenes are just right. And one of the things that I really liked about it is that the movie was able to be funny without resorting to offensive measures (i.e. Borat).
Cameron Diaz is perfect for the role and Tom Cruise looked like he didn't age a day since the first M:I. How does he do that?! Yes, we ogled him. Sue us. I can't imagine any other actor playing his part.
If you want to have fun in the movies, see this. If you can, get this on DVD too when it comes out. It's great for a group thing. There are some sweet lines in the movie that they are now forever ingrained in the "great movie lines" part of my brain.
Oh and the travels are great (Spain and Austria, anyone?). It made me want to travel ASAP. With a guapo guy like Tom wouldn't be so bad. Really. Lol.
Mirada de mujer (1997)
Beautiful, relatable and excellently made.
I decided to watch A Walk in the Clouds, one of my favorite films of all time, as it was years ago since I have last seen it. The mom was so familiar, I know I have seen her before, but I couldn't remember where. Then it hit me, I saw her at Mirada de Mujer!
I loved Mirada de Mujer. My mom and I used to watch it together. It was something that women could bond over together. Sometimes, when my dad's not watching something else, he'll join in.
I'm amazed at how the dialogues were so raw and so real. What they say in certain situations are what people would say in real life. The dialogues weren't 'screened' or sugarcoated. They were raw and they made the viewing experience so beautiful. I wish they'd rerun the whole series again. The situations the characters were subjected to are true to what happens in real time. It was released in 1997, but it was only shown in our country a few years ago. And yet, everything was still very kindred to the family and society's present realities.
Mirada de Mujer is must-see. It's just right to give it a 10, nothing in this world's perfect, but this novela is definitely a cut above the rest. Don't be surprised if you find yourself shaking your fist at the screen, reacting and giving your two cents as to what a character should do, or wanting to see the next installment at the soonest possible time.. I promise, it'll get a reaction out of you. It's that good and different from all the crap (sorry) on TV today.
Bridal Fever (2008)
See it!
This is the perfect chick flick. I simply loved it. Superb casting, writing, directing, editing.. great enough to be shown in theaters, I say. This is way better than the countless romantic comedies (with big name movie stars) released in theaters worldwide. If you're itching to see a chick-flick but have no idea which to pick, choose Bridal Fever. You'll have a great time and get some love lessons along the way.
I gave it a 9 instead of a 10 because I don't know what happened to Gwen's clothes at the end. And her hair. And that abrupt cut between the PR girl and Gwen and Dahlia in the car. I hope you don't consider those as spoilers, they're not meant to be as such. Hair/costume and editing's great over-all, just those two little snags. Nothing to worry about. :-)
