All the Wilderness (2014)
a perfectly and simply told tale of human tragedy
A perfect piece of cinema.
A simple yet beautifully told tale of human tragedy and grievance.
A well acted, complete story that wasn't over told. All of the characters were crafted perfectly to fit the story
An excellent balance of story and self-imagination for the intelligent to comprehend the entirety of the plot.
The sublime darkness that follows James Charm was a perfect form to show ones hidden fears, the horror's that can hide deep inside.
How 6 simple words can transform one from the dark to the light, is genus. That one scene, highlights just how transformative this film is.
For those that only appreciate Hollywood block busters.....you won't understand this film.
A definite 'top shelf' film in my estimation.
Vinterviken (2021)
confusing
Although the leads are very easy on the eye, the overall plot was a disappointment.
A story line that has been done umpteen times, girl from good family meets boy from bad, however, in this case it got lost and confused....
This is a shame, because it started with promise, and ended with as a confused disappointment.
There needed to be more story and character development......and there was time, the movie is just on 1 hour 30.... The leads are so easy to look at 2 hours would have been not a problem. If we could have had more exploration around the final scenes with buddies mates and then the ending, which is total confusion, maybe the story wouldn't have got so 'lost'.
Bright Ones (2019)
it's an ok movie
There is a premise about inspirational movies that they are supposed to provide the confidence to believe in ones self.....Which this movie does do...however this movie also incorporates 'crutches' that only a few believe.
It's a shame this story is told with the backdrop that one must have a crutch to move forward.....for this reason I can't give it a score of more than 5 stars out of 10....and those five stars go directly to the young actors that all have a gift that need recognition.
Ruben's Place (2012)
not a bad watch for a first attempt
Overall this was a sensitive view toward a loving relationship.
There are some short comings, like Jimmy's (Jason Lieu) weird friend...what was his character about? Ruben's uncle Vic's character could have been explained better...about him being a bit 'dodgy' and when his girlfriend Mercedes realized the relationship between Ruben and Jimmy, I feel there could have been some sort of a short discussion about this.
The audio was a tad underwhelming.....even on 98 it was difficult to hear...it was only after I had watched the movie where it was explained to wear headphones...which is impossible for me as my wireless headphones aren't paired with my TV......When I get the time I will re-watch on my computer to see if the audio is better.
The story line was believable, although a bit predictable. There was a natural attraction between Ruben's character (Dawson Montoya) and Jimmy's character (Jason Lieu)....that really cemented the overall story.
The best scene for me was the releasing of Ruben's mom's ashes....with Jimmy's tears......as we all forget Jimmy lost both his parents when he was in 8th grade.
This movie is worth a watch
