Reservoir Dogs (1992)
Some big disadvantages, with some bigger advantages
For a low budget movie, it's remarkable how many great actors have been casted. Harvey Keitel, Steve Buscemi, Tim Roth and Michael Madsen are each worth of what the movie did cost.
I didn't really enjoy 'Reservoir Dogs'. First of all, the locations of the movie were a garage, an office and sometimes the street. They were waiting and waiting for help for their wounded friend. This made the movie too boring. They didn't need to be there all the time. And when they left, the viewer stayed in the garage.
Those were the disadvantages, but there's one very big advantage for this movie. The lines of the actors. Sometimes I had to laugh about them, and sometimes what they were saying was very serious. This saved the movie, in my opinion. The acting was great too. Especially Michael Madsen impressed me as the silent, but very sadistic hench-man.
I give this movie a 6 out of 10. I don't want to join the trend of liking everything Tarantino is doing. Even when it has some serious disadvantages, and certainly when I compare this one with the extremely amusing 'Kill Bill' movies.
Soldaat van Oranje Revisited (2002)
This documentary is very interesting if you want to know some background details on the movie 'Soldaat Van Oranje'. It shows you how some scenes in the movie were made, how mad director Verhoeven can be at times and whether or not what happened in the movie has actually happened.
What's also nice about this documentary is that you see how the actors who played in the movie look like now. If there are people who enjoyed 'Soldaat Van Oranje' should definitely watch this documentary.
Saban Oglu Saban (1977)
A shameless copy of the Pink Panther.
This movie is a shameless copy of the Pink Panther.
A diamond is stolen from a family (Sener Sen's family), and two inspector Clouseaus (Kemal Sunal and Halit Akcatepe) are assigned to solve this mystery. And of course there is also a chief inspector Dreyfuss (Sener Sen) present. Sen hates Sunal, because in the war a hand grenade exploded in his hand and he got shot due to Sunal's clumsiness. Sen has sworn whenever he sees Sunal again, he will kill him. Suddenly Sunal returns in his live. He can't kill him because Sunal works for the police.
The jokes are of a much lower level than the jokes in the Pink Panther movies. They are very childish and absolutely not funny. The people who made this movie, and especially the people who wrote the script, were uninspired to give the movie something that makes this movie different from the Pink Panther movies.
There is scene where Sen has got two guns in his drawer. One is real and one is a lighter. This is obviously taken over from The Return Of The Pink Panther. I wouldn't recommend this movie to anybody, because the exaggerated acting of (especially Sunal and Akcatepe) the cast gets on your nerves.
