And FYI, I may have incorrectly spelt a word on here but it was just a mistake, rude comments are unnecessary and pathetic. I'm only writing this in here because it wouldn't let me comment on other peoples comments... And the person who said that i'm not a teenager is correct... because i'm 20!! How about next time you decide to judge someones list, you do so because you don't feel the same as they do rather than the fact that they accidently left out 2 letters and didnt reread what they wrote to correct themselves!!!
Rant over, you may write your 'constructive' comments now =)
Fear Island (2009)
I thought it was pretty awesome!
Now I hadn't heard of this until yesterday but I thought I would give it a watch. Most films like this, the ones with a slightly moronic title and a sort of cliché storyline, are terrible. I was pretty damn wrong.
You know the general idea of the film, based on the summary above or perhaps you have seen the trailer. Now, while it has the kind of plot you expect from most horror/thriller movies these days, it seems different somehow. I do like their approach to this storyline. They didn't make it blatantly obvious from the beginning that they should have a reason to get away to the island, kind of thing. It does jump back and forth in time quite a bit, as i'm sure has been said in other reviews but its pretty easy to keep up with.
I would have given this film a 9, however, the ending has left me wondering something and its bothering me... I don't want to say too much in case I ruin it. If you watch it then maybe you will figure it out. Or you could write on one of my other posts, I have lists on here which you could write on and ask me. It probably sounds stupid but I don't want to ruin it for those who don't want to know.
Either way, I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome of the film. While the ending was sort of expected, the entire movie also had the ability to doubt yourself and make you think something completely different was happening.
So yeah I thought it was awesome =D The rating for this movie might not be great but I think its better than what its been given. It all depends on your expectancy of the film. If your expectations are too high, then this would probably suck. But give it a go anyway, you'll never know if you like it if you don't watch it.
I thought it was quite good...
While I will admit that I wouldn't classify this film as the best i've ever seen, it really wasn't that bad. It has been compared to Saw quite a bit and although I suppose some aspects are Saw-esque, you really cant compare them. Saw ended up becoming about torture rather than the value of life, in my opinion, whereas Choose really wasn't like that. Its nice to watch a film where they don't get torn apart by something or other (not that i'm complaining, I like the Saw films but sometimes enough is enough and you want to see something a little different) Just wanted to get that out of the way.
Choose is great in that it comes up with a few fresh ideas. I don't know about anyone else, but I have never seen a film where a teen has to choose who survives between their parents. I found that quite fascinating. While some of the plot would be recognisable in various other films (I'd figured the twist out within the first 15 minutes of the film starting... I watch a lot of movies, what can I say?) you never really come across a movie that hasn't taken an idea from somewhere else and changed it to suit their script. Such as the Resident Evil films and 28 days/weeks later. They have so many similar aspects I could scream!! I'm aware that 28 days later came out a few months after so they were the ones who took the idea but you catch my drift.
What was also good was that they weren't determined to show every 'choice' they were to make. Some movies like to prolong death or torture scenes whereas in this film they got the point across, showed what they needed to and moved on. After watching so many gory slasher movies, its nice to see it done simply.
The only real issue I have with this movie is predictability. They made it far too obvious where the story was going to end which almost spoilt it for me and probably others too. I give it a 7 due to that fact and although it was good, it still didn't merit any higher.
I hope that this was somewhat helpful, I didn't want to give too much away because where is the fun in that?
