Dead Man's Shoes (2004)
Intense UK filmmaking at its best.....
Somehow i wasn't aware of Shane Meadows until recently. I assumed "This Is England" was a low budget UK movie and didn't bother checking it out at the time. I finally saw it and was instantly drawn into the story and the lives of the characters. Growing up in those times and having similar experiences in the 80's i could relate to it big time.
He managed to combine humour and intense emotions in a madly intriguing way. It's hard to watch at times ( particularly the scene with Lol and her father in the last episode of the TV mini series ) but somehow ya can't look away and are hooked.
After that i had to see what other stuff he'd done and stumbled upon this movie thanks to IMDb.
Dead Man's Shoes combines great characters and a deep story that wrenches your heart out while making you laugh. It's that mix that reels you in and makes you feel it in the pit of your stomach.
Not for the feint hearted, his storytelling and directing takes you on an intense ride of emotions that leaves you drained and entertained.
It's a great ride...
The Tao of Steve (2000)
Don't waste your time
Took me about 30 minutes before i started to fast forward through this deeply crap film. I Just didn't buy it at all. In fact it was so dull i switched it off and went to sleep.
Avoid unless your an insomniac and need some help to nod off.
