Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel have great chemistry, 3 May 2011
7/10

as far as romantic comedies go this one wasn't too bad.i chuckled here and there, and there's one scene which i found hysterical.there are some dramatic moments that also work well.the two leads,Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel have great chemistry and are both convincing in their roles.i thought the premise was an interesting and original one.the situations that arose came off as being realistic and could probably happen in reality.the movie has it's predictable moments, but because the characters are likable, believable and sympathetic, that didn't matter all that much.both Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel showed they have some range during the more serious moments of the film, and both are good at the comedic bits as well.for me,Life as We Know It is a 7/10

Mr. Brooks, 2 May 2011
8/10

Kevin Costner plays against type in this movie.without giving too much away let's just say he's not the nicest of guys.he plays the title character Mr. Brooks(Earl)who hides a dark secret.the film is quite graphic and brutal at times.it's also quite compelling, and not all that predictable.there are a few plot twists i didn't see coming.Dane Cook co-stars and is actually quite good in his role.i also really liked Danielle Panabaker as Jane Brooks,Earl Brook's daughter.if you have a weak stomach, this film is not for you.otherwise,id encourage you to go rent this intelligent well written,suspense/thriller.for me,Mr. Brooks is an 8/10

the invisible, 2 May 2011
8/10

going into this movie,i had no idea what to expect.what i got was a well written, well directed, well acted film.it's not like any film i've seen before.on an emotional level,it's very touching.the acting is superb, but Justin Chatwin and Margarita Levieva(who are really the central characters)are standouts,in my opinion.they each inhabit their characters.it's a complex(but not complicated) film with many themes running through it.hatred, love, loss, sorrow re4demptioand irony,to name a few.this film sticks with you after viewing it.you really have to take some time to digest what you have seen.it bears more than one viewing.for me,The Invisible is an 8/10

terrific British dark comedy, 30 April 2011
8/10

once again, the British have made a great little independent film.i suppose you could classify it as a dark comedy.it's peopled with motley crew of characters, and brimming with over with deceit duplicity, betrayal, pain and irony.Gemma Arterton portrays the title character, who is at the center of the story.having just seen her in The Disappearance of Alice Creed,(which i also recommend)a totally different kind of film,it's obvious she has talent.the supporting cast is great as well.Stephen Frears(The Queen)directed the film.the film is rated R due to some language and sensuality, but i would have rated it 14A,but parents should use their discretion nonetheless.anyway, for me,'Tamara Drewe' is an 8/10

"don't call me babe"...,, 29 April 2011
3/10

and don't watch this movie either, unless you're really desperate for something to do.but trust me,you could always find something better to do.i mean wow, this was not good.i managed to get to the forty four minute mark before giving up and shutting it down.there's just no coherent plot here, and no real acting of any kind involved.plus, the music was awful, although that's just personal preference.the opening scene sets the bar pretty low and it just gets worse from there.for some strange reason,Xander Berkeley(who's a quality actor)decided to appear in this mess.oh,well, everybody is entitled to a bad movie once in a while.anyway, for me, because it's not the worse movie i've seen,Barb Wire is a 3/10

Gattaca (1997)
Gattaca, 29 April 2011
8/10

*** This review may contain spoilers ***

Gattaca is a film rife with many themes, eugenics(creating a perfect specimen by genetically altering any gene or part of a gene that may have imperfections or undesirable traits before birth)being one of them.ethics obviously enters into the equation too.class structure also plays a huge part in Gattaca.you have the lower class, whose genes were not altered and who have imperfections, deemed suitable for nothing except menial work, and then you have the higher class, who have been bred with no perceived imperfections.Gattaca takes place in the not too distant future.i liked the film a lot, especially the look of it,the colour palette.the story was good, and moved along at a decent pace, not too fast but not too slow.for me,Gattaca is an 8/10

a wild and fun ride, 29 April 2011
8/10

for me this was one wild fun ride.the special effects are top notch the sound is perfect.the colours are great.true, there isn't a lot of story here or character development, but this movie is all about the special effects, the Twisters.it's exciting and fast paced, there's even a bit of lite humour.it's also sad and tragic at times.the only real complaint i have is the ending.i found it a bit unrealistic.but other than that, this was one movie that will blow the socks off your feet.the acting is just fine for this film.after all they're not doing Hamlet here.and the film doesn't try to be anything other than what it is.for me,Twister is an 8/10

nifty little thriller/murder mystery, 29 April 2011
8/10

this is a nifty little thriller/murder mystery that takes place in Antarctica at a research station just as the six month long winter season is beginning,in which the sun will set for the full six months.Kate Beckinsale plays a U.S. Marshall trying to track the killer, while a raging storm roars.while i liked the movie,i did think the killer was revealed too soon.but there are plenty of other twists and turns to keep you on your toes right to the end.is wasn't expecting the ending at all.and that's a good thing in this kind of film.it wasn't predictable at all as the film moved along,i thought i had thing figured out.but i was wrong.for me,Whiteout is an 8/10

"...and that's the way the cookie crumbles.", 28 April 2011
7/10

as far as Jim Carrey movies goes, this is not one of his funniest.there are definitely some hilarious moments to be sure, and a fair amount of amusing moments.but it's more of a fantasy/drama than a comedy.it's definitely entertaining and well worth watching.just don't expect a laugh a minute.Basically,Bruce(Carrey)a chronic complainer to God)is given God's powers so he can he can find out for himself how hard it is to run things.Jennifer Anniston co-stars and is decent enough but doesn't have a lot to work with.Steve Carell has one very funny scene which had me in stitches.and Morgan Freeman was good in a small but pivotal role.overall,a very entertaining movie that will keep you occupied for just over ninety minutes.for me,Bruce Almighty is a 7/10

imagine being awake but paralysed during surgery, 28 April 2011
8/10

*** This review may contain spoilers ***

what would you do if you were awake during surgery and could still feel pain, but completely paralysed and unable to alert anyone?that's what happens here to Clay Beresford(Hayden Christensen).but how did he end up there?to find out you have to go to the beginning of the story.and what happens next?there is a lot going on here.there are several twists and turns that keep you on your toes to the very end.i was surprised a few times.the supporting players a really good here/Jessica Alba shows some range and maturity.Terrence Howard is good as usual, and his character inscrutable.Lena Olin gives understated performance as Lilith Beresford,Clay's mother.all in all, a very good film.for me,Awake is an 8/10
