Awesome and brutal
Another Ridley Scott masterpiece, next to Alien, Blade Runner, Black Hawk Down etc.
Gladiator packs a lot of punches and drama, with violent arena battle scenes.
The film stars Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Oliver Reed, Richard Harris, etc.
In Gladiator, victorious general Maximus Decimus Meridias (Russell Crowe) has been named keeper of Rome and its empire by dying emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris), so that rule might pass from the Caesars back to the people and Senate. Marcus' neglected and power-hungry son, Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), has other ideas, however. Escaping an ordered execution, Maximus hurries back to his home in Spain, too late to save his wife and son from the same order. Taken into slavery and trained as a gladiator by Proximo (Oliver Reed), Maximus lives only that he might someday take his revenge and fulfill the dying wish of his emperor. The time soon comes when Proximo's troupe is called to Rome to participate in a marathon of gladiator games held at the behest of the new emperor, Commodus. Once in Rome, Maximus wastes no time in making his presence known, and is soon involved in a plot to overthrow the emperor with his former-love Lucilla (Connie Nielsen, Commodus' sister, after whom he lusts, and also the widowed mother of Lucius, heir to the empire after his uncle, and democratic-minded senator, Gracchus (Derek Jacobi).
Without a doubt, one of the best films I've seen.
Gladiator gets 10 stars.
The Best Film of 2010
This is why I like Christopher Nolan, His films are the perfect example of exhilarating pieces of cinema, such as Memento, Insomnia, The Prestige, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and Inception is his best he's done.
The film stars Leonardo Dicaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Michael Caine, Tom Berenger, etc.
Dom Cobb (Leonardo Dicaprio) is able to use his unique skills to his advantage - he can enter people's minds through their dreams and thereby learn their secrets. He is a thief for hire but Japanese businessman Mr. Saito has a somewhat different proposition for him. He wants Cobb to enter the mind of Robert Fischer Jr., who is about to inherit his father's massive business empire, to plant a simple notion: to break-up his father's conglomerate and sell it off. In return, Saito will make it possible for Cobb to freely return to the US where he is currently wanted by the police. Cobb accepts and assembles his team with a plan to plant the idea deep in Fisher's mind by generating a series of dreams within dreams so that he eventually thinks he came up with the idea himself. As the intended deception grows ever more complex, Cobb has to deal with his own emotions and feelings of guilt, which are projecting themselves into the dreamspace. Cobb has to deal with the eventual question of what is real and what is only a dream.
Nolan has a excellent mind in science fiction, this could be the winner of Best Picture who knows?
Inception get 10 stars.
Cool Runnings (1993)
Disney has a handful of sports films such as The Mighty Ducks films, The Rookie (2002), Remember the Titans (2000), Angels in the Outfield (1994), Invincible (2006), Miracle (2004), etc.
Cool Runnings made me laugh throughout the entire movie.
The film stars John Candy, Leon, Doug E. Doug, Rawle D. Lewis, Malik Yoba, etc.
Irving Blitzer (John Candy) disgraced himself when putting extra weights into his team's bob in the Olympics, resulting in his gold medal being taken away from him. Years later, Derice Bannock, son to a former friend of Irv, fails to qualify for the 100-yard sprint for the Olympics due to a stupid accident. But when he hears of Irving Blitzer living also on Jamaica, Derice decides to go to the Games anyway. If not as a sprinter, then as a bobsledder. After some starting problems, the first Jamaican bobsledding team is formed and heads for Calgary. In the freezing weather Derice, Sanka, Junior and Yul are only laughed at, since nobody can take a Jamaican bobsledding team led by a disgraced trainer for serious. But team spirit and a healthy self confidence may lead to a few surprises in the upcoming Winter Games.
This is one heck of a funny movie that I've seen in years.
But too bad that John Candy passed away a year later after this is made, his official last movie for him was Wagon's East, but he did Canadian Bacon before that, but it came out in 1995.
This is another movie you should see, you'll laugh like crazy.
Cool Runnings gets 10 stars.
I became a Beavis and Butt-head fanatic since it came on MTV, when this movie came out to theaters in 1996, I was thrilled and this movie made me laugh throughout the entire film!!! I was laughing like crazy.
The films stars as a voice cast: Mike Judge (Beavis and Butt-head, Tom Anderson, Mr. Van Driessen, Principal McVicker), Bruce Willis (Muddy Grimes), Demi Moore (Dallas Grimes), Robert Stack (ATF Agent Flemming), etc.
While awaking from a crazy dream, Beavis and Butt-head soon realize that their TV was stolen from a bunch of thieves, and they were mad, so its them on a journey across America to find their TV, not only that, someone is hold captive of a deadly device that belongs to the FBI, it can be found in Beavis's shorts. While searching for the TV, they stop a motel where Muddy Grimes (voice of Bruce Willis) wants them to get Dallas (voice of Demi Moore) back in relationship, elsewhere, they stop at Tom Anderson's trailer and they screwed up his TV, once they stop at Las Vegas, they found Dallas caught in a terrorist control. Chaos ensues when they mess around with the control panel of the Hoover Dam. While many places to go, they got lost in a desert with two Motley Crue roadies, after that, they nearly die from dehydration until Muddy came up to pick them up to get them to Washington DC. Once they get there, the agents are on the run of the unit. After that's taking care of, Tom Anderson, Muddy and Dallas Grimes were arrested and Beavis and Butt-head saved everybody from total chaos, finally, they found their TV lying on the motel sidewalk.
This is classic Mike Judge at it's best, next to King of the Hill, and the movie Office Space.
One of the funniest scenes in the movie is the Cornholio scene. I can laugh at that all night long. For a movie based cartoon film, it's 1,000,000 times better than that Spongebob Squarepants garbage.
This movie is awesome, you'll laugh like there's no tomorrow.
Beavis and Butt-head Do America gets 10 stars.
After I saw Alien, I recently watched the sequel which it was directed by James Cameron (The Terminator, Titanic, True Lies, T2 Judgment day, Avatar, The Abyss).
It stars Sigourney Weaver, Michael Biehn, Carrie Henn, Lance Henriksen, William Hope, Bill Paxton, etc.
Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), the sole survivor of the alien attack on the mining ship Nostromo, awakens half a century later when she is found by a salvage ship. The welcome given to her by the "Company" officials is far from warm, since they refuse to believe her discovery of alien existence and strip her off her flight officer's license. Ripley also discovers, much to her horror, that the planet LV-426 where her crew had encountered an alien species for the first time, is now colonized by the company. But when all contact from the planet is lost Ripley is called back into action again as an adviser to a team of tough space marines with lots of firepower. To get rid of her recurrent nightmares about the alien creature, Ripley prepares for a final battle with the monsters - and this time, there are hundreds of them out there.
The first movie had more suspense and eerie feeling, but this one will put you on the edge of your seat.
Aliens gets 10 stars.
Best science fiction movie since Star Wars
This movie really scared me when I first watched it, it was one of the most heart beating, suspenseful films ever. Made by Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, Gladiator, Body of Lies, American Gangster, Robin Hood) It stars Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean, Stanton, John Hurt, etc.
In the near future, during its return to the earth, a commercial spaceship Nostromo intercepts a distress SOS from a distant planet. The seven-member crew are woken up from the hypersleep and the spaceship subsequently descends on the planet. While exploring the planet, a three-member team of the crew discovers a derelict spaceship and a huge chamber inside it containing thousands of eggs. When a curious team member goes too near the egg the parasite inside the egg attacks him, rendering him unconscious. He is brought back aboard, the spaceship takes off. After a little while the parasite dies and his host wakes up seemingly unruffled. But other crew members are unaware of the living nightmare which is going to descend upon them when the alien creature planted inside its unfortunate host would emerge.
A lot of scenes in the film will give you goosebumps, such as the facehugger appearance, and the chestburster scene (which is spoofed in Spaceballs BTW).
Aliens had more action than the first, because there is more suspense and horror in the first. Not to mention the film has awesome special effects.
Alien is truly one of the greatest sci-fi films ever made (Other great sci-fi films: Aliens, Independence Day, Avatar, Transformers, Predator, Star Wars, Back to the Future, etc.) Alien gets 10 stars.
This is such an awesome movie
After I watched RoboCop on TV, I loved it, but when I bought the DVD, I loved it even more!!!!
Since I watched movies on TV, they attend to ruin certain dialog, they have to cut scenes out, dubbing, and content (ex. blood, gore, nudity, language, sexual references). But it's better to get them uncut to see the original movie.
It stars Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Dan O'Herlihy, Ronny Cox, Kurtwood Smith, Miguel Ferrer, etc.
After Omni Consumer Products (OCP) announced that it bought out the Detroit police department, the department decides to go on strike. Alex Murphy (Peter Weller), gets transferred from Metro South to the West. He and his partner, Anne Lewis, track down a group of criminals led by Clarence Boddicker (Kurtwood Smith). Unfortunately, Murphy was killed by Clarence's gang. Bob Morton, one of OCP's employees, transforms Murphy's corpse into Robocop, to compete with another employee Dick Jones' ED-209. Robocop's tests are successful. Unfortunately, Robocop rediscovers his memories (when he was Alex Murphy), and now knows he has to find and arrest Clarence Boddicker. He realizes that Clarence is working for Bob Morton's competition Dick Jones. Now, Robocop must stop both Clarence and Dick Jones.
As far as his directing goes, it was pretty good when he did Basic Instinct, his directing went downhill when he directed that awful movie Showgirls, but he returns to his roots by directing Starship Troopers.
I have never owned the sequels, Never seen RoboCop 2, but I never liked RoboCop 3.
Overall, one of the best action movies ever made.
RoboCop gets 10 stars.
Jurassic Park (1993)
Steven Spielberg has made numerous films that got critical praise such as Jaws, E.T., Indiana Jones series, Minority Report, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, etc. Hook was one of Spielberg's least favorite films, But Jurassic Park is an entertaining blockbuster of 1993.
It stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Richard Attenborough, etc.
John Hammond has developed a dinosaur park (in a very remote Island) using a DNA of a prehistoric dinosaur taken from an ancient insect. In a tour that Hammond makes to a selected audience which suppose to decide whether the park is safe or not safe for public, the security system collapsed, and the dinosaurs set themselves free. Now the selected audience, in the leadership of Doctor Grant (Sam Neill) and include Doctor Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), Doctor Sattler (Laura Dern), Hammond's grandchildren, and some more has to survive in the Island.
No Jurassic Park sequel can beat this original piece of art.
Overall, very cool, and very smart film.
Jurassic Park gets 10 stars.
Live Free or Die Hard (2007)
Welcome back, John McClane
After 20 years since the first Die Hard came out in 1988, it was brought back again as the final film in the series, Live Free or Die Hard (aka Die hard 4.0)
It stars Bruce Willis, Timothy Olyphant, Justin Long, Maggie Q, Kevin Smith, Cliff Curtis, etc
NYPD Detective John McClane (Bruce Willis) lives in Brooklyn, and he's now divorced from Holly Gennero, who lives in San Francisco. John has faced some brutal terrorists in his career, but now, he's about to face what may be his most dangerous enemy yet. John, who occasionally does jobs for the United States Department of Homeland Security, receives a call to bring in a hacker named Matt Farrell (Justin Long), because there has been a breach in an FBI computer system. Farrell is one of the many hackers who are suspected in the attack, and all known hackers are to be questioned. But after John gets to Matt's apartment, a group of men show up and try to kill John and Matt, who barely escape with their lives. As it turns out, a group of cyberterrorists led by Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant) are systematically shutting down the United States computer infrastructure. They crash the stock market, crippling America's economy. It turns out that Matt knows enough about hacking to know exactly how Gabriel is shutting down the USA. Gabriel, a disgraced former Department of Defense employee, plans to bring the country to its knees, but he doesn't count on John and Matt figuring out what's going on. Gabriel wants John and Matt out of the way, and for John, the situation becomes personal when an enraged Gabriel kidnaps John's daughter Lucy, who is a student at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Gabriel may think he now has the upper hand on John, but he has no idea how far John is willing to go to rescue Lucy.
You will never be bored watching these movies, they put you on the edge of your seat like Transformers and The Bourne Ultimatum.
Overall, awesome movie.
Live Free or Die Hard gets 10 stars.
Totally awesome film
The Bourne Supremacy, The Day After Tomorrow, Spider Man 2, Million Dollar Baby, The Aviator, Ray, I, Robot, what's next? Oh yeah, Collateral, one of the best action films ever.
It stars Tom Cruise, Jamie Foxx, Mark Ruffalo, Jada Pinkett Smith, Javier Bardem, etc.
For Max (Jamie Foxx), the dreams of his own limo company are what keep him afloat from the mundane reminder of his real job: taxi driver, which he has been doing for over a decade. But one fateful night, Max has one cab fare that he would never expect named Vincent (Tom Cruise). He's a smooth, charismatic fellow who is sharply dressed and apparently wealthy, offering Max an excellent tip if he'll bring him to five stops throughout Los Angeles. But fate intervenes and Max soon finds out that Vincent isn't a businessman, but a contract hit-man making his rounds. As the night progresses, Max finds himself under the microscope of a coldblooded killer. Meanwhile, the police and FBI are onto Max's cab while the two ultimately play a psychological cat and mouse game, that will lead to an inevitable climax neither would anticipate.
Cruise and Foxx played their roles very well, the film was also violent and very exhilarating, especially the taxi cab barrel roll flip, and the night club fight.
Collateral is one to check out, you won't be disappointed.
Collateral gets 10 stars.
