Gaia Selene: Saving the Earth by Colonizing the Moon (2005)
Essentially - How to save the planet...
Given the scope of our energy and environmental problems, Gaia Selene is the first and maybe the only film I've seen that offers far reaching but viable solutions. Some might say colonizing the moon and mining its resources for energy to power the earth seems far fetched but don't forget, we landed on the moon almost forty years ago and then simply walked away. What if we had taken the next step, established a base, started exploiting its resources. Would we be in the same mess we're in now? The question is moot now but this movie illustrates what is possible if we find the will to return to the moon. Not only can we solve our energy and environmental crises, we can neutralize all that nuclear waste building up all over the planet. These are not pie in the sky ideas. Filmmaker Chip Proser interviews the top scientists in their fields, men who know how to get to the moon and how to do what needs to be done once we're there- all with existing technology and at a cost that makes economic sense in light of the enormous returns in terms of energy and the establishment of a new frontier.
For anyone interested in the future of our planet and in viable solutions to seemingly intractable problems (solutions you won't hear mentioned anywhere else), Gaia Selene is a must see. I highly recommend it.
