I watch a lot of movies (mostly horror and comedies).
Can't wait till 2009 - RIPPER.
The Plague (2006)
Never been a fan of Clive Barker but I was intrigued by the plot idea. (Its worth noting for zombie purists it's more 28 days/weeks later than Dawn of the Dead, i.e. there's not much gore if your a gore hound). I found it creepy, building good tension in several places and because of the plot outline you really don't know what to expect. Yep, (if you read other reviews on here), its somewhat implausible at times but its a horror... Overall, its a B movie that works surprisingly well and has become part of my DVD collection. James Van Der Beek in particular was good enough for me to no longer think of him as Dawson and I am far more apt to pick up one of his other films now. Pick it up cheap enough and you shouldn't be too disappointed, it's definitely worth a watch or two.
Brief/To The Point Review
I really enjoyed this film. It's more of an escapist, fantasy film than Daredevil with some characters that wouldn't be out of place in the X-Men films. That said, it's way more realistic than X-Men. You'll enjoy it if you've liked any of the following... X-Men, Daredevil, Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Jennifer Garner plays the role well, the fight scenes are awesome (if you liked Buffy this kicks a just as well). Only disappointments: cutting Ben Affleck's scene from the actual released version of the movie (though it is in the DVD extras) and there's no director's commentary on the DVD (UK version anyway). Rent or buy - buy definitely... I'm now getting my hands on Alias (TV show Jennifer Garner starred in) just to get a fix!
House of the Dead 2 (2005)
Better Than Expected
Didn't hope for much when I sat down to watch this but, as said, it was a better than expected.
Expect low budget, but not too bad - i've seen much worse in special effects and overall production.
Some of the scenes have been lifted completely from Resident Evil so on the whole its not too original -
And with both of those things in mind its okay - I jumped a few times and the build up of tension when trapped by hordes of the undead was pretty good (although very Res Evil).
There's some good humour too, with more than one nod to films it owes something to (which is good as opposed to just outright plagiarism), again particularly Res Evil.
I wouldn't run out and buy a copy, but I would watch it again sometime, there's worse ways to spend an hour and a half.
