Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)
The Sequel That We Needed
When I heard that they were making a sequel to this, I was both over-hyped with excitement and very nervous because let's face it, sequels rarely live up to the expectations of the originals. Thankfully though, this one did not disappoint.
It starts off directly where the original left off, which is nice because there is not a huge time gap in-between. Not only do they continue chapter 2 right where the first chapter left off, but the story also goes more in-depth with Josh's past.
Will every hard-core fan of Insidious be impressed by this sequel? Of course not. Insidious: Chapter 2 felt very different from the original. It was mostly because Insidious seemed so unique at the time when it came out, and now seeing chapter 2, it is just more of the same except now people are getting possessed by the ghosts. Without giving any major spoilers away, I will say that the last 30 minutes seemed more of a "slasher" movie than a paranormal movie, which may turn some hard-core Insidious fans away.
I really enjoyed how the writers tied the first movie into this one (you will see what I mean when you watch the movie).
Overall, was it as scary as Insidious? I think so. The scares seemed forced at times due to the fact that they probably tried too hard to make the sequel as good, if not, better than the original, but it was definitely still suspenseful.
Overall 8/10. -2 stars due to the scares seeming too forced at times, which caused the movie to drag on.
The Fourth Kind (2009)
A Movie So Real That You Have to Believe
I walked into this movie not knowing what to expect. I only knew of what I've seen in the trailer. By the time the movie was over, my friends and I were saying to ourselves, "That was the most messed up thing I've ever seen!" We also said that this movie had to be one of the most realistic and scariest movies ever created. The acting in this movie was phenomenal! The visuals were pretty good, there weren't to many effects because most of the effects that would needed was from the real footage. The real footage was very disturbing and scary. This movie is something very new, and something I have never seen before. The Fourth Kind was a thousand times better than Paranormal Activity. This movie actually makes non-believers, believers in aliens. I gave this movie a 10/10; it was a perfect horror movie, and I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone that is looking for a good scare!
All About Steve (2009)
The Right Amount of Every Genre
I walked into this movie only knowing that it was about some crazy girl obsessed with some guy. I was like "oh yes another chick flick, can't wait...". In the end this is defiantly not a chick flick, it was a romantic comedy for both sexes. This movie was not overrated it had the perfect combination of comedy, romance, and even a scene of horror that had the whole theater jump. The acting in this movie was phenomenal and everyone can relate a little bit to this movie. The thing that made this movie awesome was that they made every character lovable. Usually I'm not a huge fan of romantic comedy's, but in my opinion this was one of the best I've seen since 50 First Dates. Another thing that made me love this movie was that it didn't drag and it either had me smiling or laughing the whole time. I could watch this movie over and over again. I gave this a 10/10 without even thinking about giving it a 9. Perfect movie!
The Final Destination (2009)
Very Entertaining, but Ended Weird
I walked into this movie knowing that it wasn't going to be anything special, but overall good. This movie was a little better than the 1st Final Destination and way better than the 3rd, and in a tie with the 2nd one. The acting in this movie wasn't Oscar worthy, it was descent. The acting wasn't so bad like College Road Trip that you had to stop watching the movie because the acting was horrible. It was watchable. The positives about this movie was that the acting was watchable, the 3-D was awesome, and there were some pretty good new deaths. The negative things were that the deaths looked way to cheesy, the gore was way to much like a comic book, and the stuff that happened would never happen in real life. The visuals were way to cheesy and laughable. The huge thing that made me rate this a 8 instead of a 9 or a 10 is that they ended this movie way to fast and rushed. Overall I would recommend this movie.
A Perfect Getaway (2009)
Dragged a lot but was still pretty good
I walked into the theater thinking that this movie was going to be filled with action. The movie started with the two newlyweds recording their vacation, and some scenes of their wedding. More in the movie you start to find out more and more about who the killers are. Throughout the movie you also change your mind constantly who the two killers are. The acting in the movie was very good, and there were no cheesy jokes. Everyone in the theater was cheering and laughing, which shows that it was a pretty good movie. The visual effects in the movie were very good. The pain looked real and the really good thing is that the actors and actresses were all brave and took the pain like nothing happened. The negative things about this movie is that about 90 percent of the movie was the movie building up and about 10 percent was action. Overall it was a good movie and I would recommend it, 8/10.
Drag Me to Hell (2009)
The Best Horror Movie of 2009
The trailer can look deceiving, the trailer for this movie is horrible but this movie is amazing. Also don't let the PG-13 deceive you this movie is just like something the Rami brothers would make. The effects in this movie were not the greatest but they were sick. There were some scenes in this movie that were so disturbing that I couldn't even look at the screen! The acting was very good. The storyline was pretty decent and the directing was very good. Something was popping out it seemed like every 5 minutes or so. When I left the theater my ears were ringing because it was so loud. Honestly this one of the best horror movies I've seen in a very long time. I would defiantly recommend this to anyone, defiantly a 10/10 everything in this movie was perfect!
The Funniest Thriller of the Year!
Ever since I saw the trailer I knew this movie was going to suck really bad. I walked into the theater jam packed. The beginning started pretty descent, then once he started to get to know the "Obsessed" temp, the movie started to get really weird. I think they over exaggerated this movie way to much. The acting was horrible and the ending fight scene was hilarious! Everyone in the theater laughed when the quote "Bitch Breath" was said. This movie could of been a huge success, but they hired really bad actors and actresses. The girl that played the temp is a good actress, she knows better than to sign up for this crap. Overall I gave this a 6/10 because some of it was pretty entertaining, I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone.
The Unborn (2009)
Should Of Been Straight To DVD
I'v seen this movie about three times and every time I watch this movie it gets worse and worse. The scares are cheap and pointless. It looks like this movie was edited by middle schoolers. There were about two good scares in the whole movie. The acting was horrible, the one good actress was the main girl. The one that played the black girl seemed like she didn't want to be there, same goes to all the actors. The plot was horrible and have been done before hundreds of times. This movie seemed like it should'v been sent straight to DVD. The reason why I gave this a five was because the main girl was a good actress and there were a coupe of good scares, and the ending was pretty good. Overall this was the worst movie by far that came out this year.
The Haunting in Connecticut (2009)
Very Weird, but Good
I didn't know what to expect walking in to this movie. I questioned myself "Is this movie going to be horrible, or is this movie going to be good?" The first fifteen minutes pretty much talks about the son having cancer, and the reason why they have to move into the house and why they can't move out. The movie was overall pretty good, but there was some flaws. Having something popping out every five second's can get pretty annoying, and the movie reminded me of way to many other movies. For example, when all the chairs getting stacked on to the table reminded me of The Poltergeist. Also the dead ghost haunting the people reminded me of The Messengers. Lastly the possession reminded me of The Unborn. The scares were pretty scary, the effects and picture quality were good, but cheap, and the acting was decent. Overall, the movie wasn't too scary, it was mostly creepy. I would give this a 8/10.
The Last House on the Left (2009)
Wow Just Wow
I didn't know what to expect when I read reviews from various websites. I went to go see this with several of my friends a couple members of my family. It started out with them driving back from swimming practice and ends with so much gore and intensity, that you pretty much don't move for the rest of the movie. The reason why I didn't give this movie a ten was because some of the movie was just too much, but I guess that's what you get when you go see a movie with a rape scene. I thought the rape scene was a little bit too much but later in the movie the emotions of the family made the rape scene manageable. My opinion is to not see your little kids see this, but this was the best horror movie by far this year!
