Below Deck: Yacht-Pocalypse Now (2019)
Season 7, Episode 12

(not) reality tv at its finest
11 July 2021
I started watching this because i'm sick and have a dwindling number of healthy preoccupations. As a younger man i spent a few years sailing the caribbean - chartering, delivering and teaching (off-shore sailing). I am absolutely dumbfounded at the lack of professionalism on these mega-yachts. I get that it's tv and that drama and dysfunction sells, but having deckhands that are being paid (what) $6k / mo. Tax free that cannot tie a bowline is utterly mind-boggling to me. That there stewardesses who do not know how to open a bottle of wine properly ? Ok so no-one is going to die from a poorly opened bottle of wine but that these deckhands know so little just completely blows me away. The water and alcohol abuse has always been prevalent but it seems like standards on the champagne waterways is one domino way from deadly. I'm kind of amazed there haven't been more serious injuries or even fatalities on these boats. I suppose i should stay tuned.

Suicide Kings (1997)

superb film

This is quite a unique thriller. the script and characters are well developed. the casting is exquisite and all in all a wonderfull movie. i watched this as a younger man and it was a paradigm shifting experience. all these years later and i see that this movie lost money. i simply have trouble believing this. it's so odd that really good movies (there are so many) like this lose money (ie. don't get seen by all that many people) whilst there are so many pieces of garbage just forced down the throats of the masses that make bundles of cash. if you appreciate quality in the gangster genre, do yourself a favour and watch this movie. it is well worth it.

grrrrrrr & arghhhhhh frikin arggggghhhhhh

Did anyone else find this show so exciting and full of promise when it first began? another reviewer here stated quite succinctly that it has become.a soap opera and that's exactly how i feel. james spader is one of my favourite actors and his strength can carry alot of dead weight but by the second season it became untenable. i'm sick so i'm bingeing but the writing is intolerable; its cringe worthy on almost every level. perhaps due to his acting skills i'm expecting too much as an executive producer but this show now fails on almost level. the writing is atrocious, the character development is pathetic and how in the world can they not follow simplistic concepts of belief suspension? i am so disappointed by just how poorly this show has devolved and so much of it so infantile when it doesn't need to be. how many times can an fbi agent get too close with a weapon drawn and have it taken away so easily? it boggles my mind when movies and shows screw up the "world wrestling federation stuff" so consistently ( ie agent takes on 5 mercenaries /bad guys but in the very next scene gets easily bested by a waitress with a coffee pot?). its so easy with a little planning and forethought to get this basic stuff correct. this show is just such a sad / pathetic shadow of what it started out as and could hsve been. the worst of it is that it's spader - ggrrrrrrrr & argggghhhhh
