The Haunting (1963)
One of the most important horror movies of the 1960's
Most haunted house horror films and you expect to see; a ghost wandering the corridor, a group of people in peril, blood, gore and the like. While these are important elements of haunted house horror movies, 'The Haunting' have very little of these. Yet, is one of the most important and brilliant haunted house movies of all time.
In 'The Haunting' you don't have ghost running around, or beautiful women constantly cowering in the corner, in fact, the viewer sees very little, yet this movie still contains an eerie presence and still manages to keep interest alive and still grabs attention
The main character in this film is Eleanor Lance - played by Julie Harris - who is shy, insecure young woman with very little to live for; she has spent most of her adult life caring for her now late mother and being bullied and belittled by her older sister. As a result, it is hardly surprising that an offer by Dr. John Markway - played by Richard Johnson - to take part in an experiment in the supernatural in a supposedly haunted house grabs her attention, offering her the somewhat form of escapism she so desperately needs.
What makes this film so gripping is the fact that, even when there is only dialogue on the screen, it is still interesting and watchable. Also, even with the absence of any visible scares an eerie feeling is still present; the long corridors, the long periods of silence, and the many shadows seen.]
The character of Eleanor has not had a good life, and coming to Hill House helps her to escape and try something new. The forces in the house however want her, and at first she battles then eventually gives in. She experiences fear from the house yet at the same time enjoys the attention it offers.
This film is a drama as well as a horror, as we follow the emotional and social well being on Eleanor. Her giving into the desires of the house could be read as a symbol of her finally finding what she 'wants' and desires.
Not many other films have the power, and story to grip a viewer the way this film does, particularly through long periods of simply dialogue. The Haunting is without a doubt one of the most important horror movies of all time and should be watched by many.
Surprising interesting, despite a few thin scenes, but this is the least entertaining installment in the Halloween series
I was surprised at the way Halloween 6:The Curse of Michael Myers turned out. I expected this movie to be a terrible addition to the Halloween cycle, and after while watching H5 one can begin to see the drawbacks. Halloween 1-4 were very interesting, and so was H2O and Resurrection, Halloween 6 is good too but there are flaws that the fans probably noticed in Halloween 5 that were passed onto this installment. Halloween 6 is an OK movie, and it is notably the darkest film in the series, it mixes typical horror with a sort of sci-fi theme squeezed into it. A few scenes in the movie even slightly, just slightly creeped me out, and the flashing images in H6 are creepy too. What I like about this movie is that it has some creative death scenes and as I mentioned before,it mixes horror with sci-fi, it also has some creepy scenes, and in my opinion it will probably be the scariest Halloween film the fans will see (not necessarily the best, but just the scariest. What I don't like about this film is some of the thin scenes that it has, and flaws such and some wooden acting. So overall, Halloween 6:The Curse of Michael Myers is the lowest film in the Halloween series, but it is an OK film and some scenes of this movie will generally freak, and creep viewers out. ***/*****
The Santa Clause (1994)
Ho Ho Ho, Merry Tim Allen
The Santa Clause was made it 1994 and was directed by John Pasquin. It follows a man who accidentally kills Santa Claus and ends up taking his job. The Santa Clause is an entertaining Xmas movie, that meets a lot of standards that both children and adults. This movie has nice typical Xmas atmosphere and the storyline can grab the viewers attention very easily. Its a film that is for the whole family, and the whole family will enjoy it. It has witty dialogue and it mixes a normal situation with an abnormal one, and it blends in perfectly. A movie like this should be watched by the whole family on Christmas Eve, and they can have a few laughs while watching it too.
A Great monster movie sci-fi classic!!
The 1950's was a decade that saw a dramatic change in movies. Monster movies of the 1950's entertained, thrilled, and scared viewers, with very little monster movies being made now the 1950's is the perfect decade if you want to see monster movies. Tarantula is a 1955 classic, directed by Jack Arnold. Jack Arnold was a very famous movie maker in the monster movie genre, his movie are still recognised today by man viewers. Tarantula has a very multifaceted but interesting storyline. It involves experiments with food shortage, and the outcome is a Tarantula growing up to 100ft high. Tarantula is a very good monster movie classic with an attention grabbing storyline, and characters that the viewers will get drawn into straight away, witty dialogue always ensues in this movie. The special effects, for its time, were amazing.
The Simpsons (1989)
Wow! The Simpsons. Wow! We need to review
Nearley everyone in the world has heard of The Simpsons, classified by many as the greatest cartoon of all time. The Simpsons started out life as a little cartoon show on "The Tracy Ulman Show." The very first episode of The Simpsons was called "Goodnight Simpsons." As the years went by, so did the cartoon. In 1989,the very first full episode of The Simpsons was broadcasted, the episode known as "The Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire." The episode was very successful and throughout the years The Simpsons became more successful. Personally, I think The Simpsons is probably the best cartoon ever made. The Simpsons is of course extremely funny. The Simpsons also has the power to go deeply into the emotional side, dealing with issues like marriage, death, divorce, etc. There is really know need for me to mention the names of the characters, because most people reading this will know who the characters are. These times, The Simpsons maybe having hard competition with Family Guy, which is slowly creeping up on The Simpsons. The Simpsons movie is coming out on the 27th July 2007, I hope that it is as good as the T.V. show. Long live The Simpsons.
Halloween 5 (1989)
You can see where it is starting to flaw
Halloween 4 is an entertaining horror sequel to Halloween, I really enjoyed that one a lot. Halloween 5 however, is good but not great. The flaws start to show, the cracks in the wall seem to get bigger (hope you like my analogies) In H5 we start off with a reminder of how H4 ended, and we see what happens after Michael Myers gets shot. And of course, the old Mikey always survives. Halloween 5 will probably disappoint some fans of Halloween. But I thought the movie was OK. Halloween 5 does entertain, but not to the fullest extent. It has a few exciting thrills, and some new interesting characters, and it is explained. We find out a bit more about Michael Myers, we also see a different side of him that we have not scene before, and we see a mysterious stranger often. Halloween 5 is an OK movie, but not the best sequel in the series. Halloween III: Season of the Witch in my opinion is more entertaining than this movie.
He's back after 10 years.
WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS HERE. IF U DO NOT WA Halloween III:Season of the Witch received many bad reviews. The producers of Halloween were left with only one choice: Bring back Michael Myers. Hallloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers takes place 10 years after the chilling events of H and H2. Audiences thought that Micahel Myers and Sam Loomis were burnt to a crisp, dead. We were wrong. After being in a coma for 10 years Michael Myers returns to the small town of Haddonfield to wreak havoc once again. H4 is one of the better sequels in the Halloween movies. This film has a recipe of suspense and thrills. Danielle Harris' acting in H4 is excellent and will please fans all over the world. Danielle really captures the essence of her character Jamie Lloyd ,and the believable dialogue that Jamie comes out with is very pleasing too. Donald Pleasence still captures the feel of Dr. Loomis. In this movie George P. Wilbur plays Michael Myers. George P. Wilbur plays Michael really well and seems to put a lot of effort as Michael. The character are good in this movie. And the love triangle between Ellie and Brady is funny and entertaining. Beau Starr plays a Sheriff Ben Meeker really well. He has similar style to that of Sheriff Liegh Brackett in the first movie. The ending to this movie:great.
#Have a Happy Halloween. Silver Shamrock.
Halloween III: Season of the Witch is with out a doubt one of the weirdest horror movies ever made. Halloween II had a toasty (try and work out if that was a pun or not) ending. The writers decided that each Halloween film would be a different story but still related to the Halloween season. Unfortunately, it did not quite work out. Halloween III received many bad reviews. May I say that I loved this motion picture. Halloween III is a great horror movie and I enjoyed it very much. One of the reasons I like it is because it is a fresh story. Halloween III refreshes audience of the first two films. It also mixes horror with science-fiction and the combination works very well. I personally think that Halloween III: Season of the Witch is better than H5 and most probably H6. The acting is this film entertained me too. Tom Aktins delivered a great performance as his character, and Dan O'Herlihy was good in this movie too. A good dose of humour will also be caught in this movie too. Unfortunately this movie didn't work out so well with critics so they went back to the same storyline as in H2 and H1. So to conclude my review of Halloween III: Season of the Witch, I'd like to say once again that Halloween III is a great horror movie, I think viewers just need to give it a chance.
Halloween II (1981)
Do you want mayonnaise on your sandwich? How about mustard?
I think I'll have mayonnaise on my sandwich(!) Halloween 2 is the first sequel to John Carpenter's outstanding horror classic Halloween. Halloween 2 takes place exactly where Halloween finished. Halloween 2 is one of the better Halloween sequels in the series. This film sustains similar atmosphere that the first instalment has, which is one of the reasons I like this film. The acting in this movie entertains in a similar way Halloween did. The plot unwinds itself with interesting interaction between characters and with a good dose of humour. This movies features loads of thrilling scenes and interesting dialogue that grabs the viewers attention. Overall this film will entertain audiences, especially audiences that have seen or are familiar with the first Halloween movies. Halloween is not better than the first Halloween bout it's surely a great horror movie, horror movie fans will be pleased with Halloween 2.
John Carpenter is famous for his work on Assault on Precint 13, but in 1978, he made a movie that changed the face of horror movies forever. Halloween is a low budget horror starring Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis. Halloween is about a person named Michael Myers, on Halloween night of 1963, he brutally murdered his older sister, he was then sent to a sanatorium, and 15 years later, he escaped. Halloween is without a doubt one of the greatest horror movies of all time. Donald Pleasence is brilliant in this movie as Michael Myers Doctor Loomis, he's the only one who knows the terrifying truth about Michael. Jamie Lee Curtis plays shy teenager Laurie Strode, Nancy Loomis and P.J. Soles play her 2 best friends Annie and Lynda, This movie has acting to convince and humour to also convince. Halloween made a massive amount at the box- office and its understandable when you watch it. John Carpenter did a very good job on this movie.Hope you enjoy
