Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010)
Resident Evil: Full of Life
I am a huge fan of the video game series; I've played & completed every Resident Evil game there is and I have 100% trophies of Resident Evil 5.
I loved the previous Resident Evil movie trilogy although many fans were disappointed by them because it wasn't to close to the games and Alice is the main character who isn't in any game. The filmmakers can't please everyone when it comes to movies based on video games because if the movie is very similar to the game then people will say that "What is the point of the movie when it is just as same as the game?" but if it is very different then people will complain that it is not related to the game in any way, shape or form. What Paul W.S Anderson has done is created an original story and had the setting of the game in the first film & in this one as well. Which is the best thing to do and he has proved that he is a terrific writer & director, he may not be the best filmmaker ever but he does know how to make good movies based on games and he is one of my favourite directors. His two movies Mortal Kombat & Resident Evil are both the best video game adaptations to date.
The plot of Resident Evil: Afterlife is that it takes place after Extinction and Alice is continuing to look for survivors in world that has been infected by T-Virus that has turned into flesh eating zombies plus she wants to take revenge on Albert Wesker and this time she if fully prepared with her clones, telekinetic powers and awesome weapons. Fighting Wesker isn't an easy task because he is superhuman himself just like in Resident Evil 5. This instalment is very close to the games and particularly Resident Evil Code Veronica & Resident Evil 5. Those who have played the 2 games will get flashbacks while watching the movie.
This was the most anticipated film for me this year and it absolutely did not disappoint me at all. I loved every minute of it right from start to end. Resident Evil: Afterlife was relentlessly entertaining, exiting and a perfect popcorn movie at the cinema kind. The movie had a great blend of action, horror, sci-fi and thriller. This one had a much more post-apocalyptic look than in extinction and has amazing special & visual effects in just in a $60 million budget. The monsters were just like in Resident Evil 5, e.g. the zombies look like the majini's with their predator like mouth, the executioner and the dogs that split their heads open with teeth inside it. So it was fascinating to see that.
The cast was great, Milla needs no introduction & is fantastic just like always and she is improving in acting, stunts and she doesn't struggle to get the job done because she can do it. Shawn Roberts was a much better Albert Wesker than Jason O'Mara in Extinction.
Overall it's not an Oscar winning kind movie & it doesn't need to be. It's a movie for the fans not for critics so ignore their negative reviews but I had a really good time watching it since I am a fan and check it out if you're looking for an entertaining movie and it's a must see if you are a Resident Evil fan.
Piranha 3D (2010)
Blood, Guts, Teeth, & Naked flesh in Red Water in 3D...What more can you ask for?
I really liked the original Piranha (1978) and the 1995 TV remake so I was really excited about the 2010 remake, particularly when I heard that it is in 3D and when I saw the trailer that makes you want to go see the movie. I have always loved underwater horror movies ever since I've seen the all time classic Jaws (1975).
The story is that there has been an underwater earthquake which has unleashed prehistoric piranhas. These piranhas were supposed to be extinct 2 million years ago but their habitat was 200 feet underground of the sea all along. The rest of the story is all about stupid teenagers who can't act and we don't care about trying to avoid turning into fish food. This kind of story is a much better idea because Piranhas are generally not that aggressive.
The movie was bashed even before it was released because most people thought it was a cheesy movie with bad CGI but I loved every minute of it because it was so entertaining; fun, very relentless and I had a really good time watching it.
Piranha 3D is not a masterpiece or is going to the Oscars (unless it is nominated for the best movie with flesh getting peeled off the bones) it is just a fun popcorn movie that has more than enough to keep you entertained.
If you are the kind of person that likes gore or nudity or both then check this movie out. Personally I enjoy gore and also if you liked Snakes on a Plane.
Overall Horror & Thriller are my favourite genders which Piranha is and after a long time there is an underwater horror movie that can be seen on the big screen since not every movie is the kind that can be viewed on the cinema.
A good idea that wasn't planted well
Christopher Nolan is one of my favourite directors and Memento & The Dark Knight are my favourite movies but for the first time I am disappointed with his movie Inception. The film is all about is all about stealing & planting ideas in people's mind by using their dreams.
The idea of the movie is good but the bad screenplay, 2.5 hours length that drags really badly, plot holes & unanswered questions & Cobb's annoying wife ruined the whole movie.
Inception is supposed to be a movie that requires multiple views to understand it like Memento but there is no way I will watch it again for the second time because it wasn't that confusing and it boring throughout. The dream sequences were not dreamlike and only the hotel dream looked cool. Cobb's wife was so annoying that I wanted to pull my arm out and constantly bash my head with it. There were so many unanswered questions like what year is the movie set in? Why does Cobb steal ideas and now he has to plant one? It was 2.5 hours long and they still couldn't explain anything.
Inception isn't even original it is ripped off from a Japanese animated movie called "Paprika" which was out in 2006.
I don't know why it is #3 on the IMDb top 250 it is not a visionary masterpiece or anything and it is only about 80% on rotten tomatoes and there are many great movies with 90+% on rotten tomatoes and they are not on the top 250 like Run Lola Run.
It is nothing but an over hyped movie and the film makers must of written that "Inception is good" on a piece of paper and planted it in people's mind although it's not.
Avatar is a masterpiece & a breakthrough in cinema
It was Terminator in the 1980's and then Titanic in the '90s and it's definitely Avatar in the 2000s!!
James Cameron is my most favourite director and he has once again broken all boundaries and created a visual extravaganza.
Avatar is Cameron's latest magnum opus is probably one of the most anticipated movies since Titanic and now it seems that the visionary director has indeed created a film that'll revolutionise the world of cinema.
The movie is set in the year 2154 and is about a man called Jake who can't walk and he is selected in the Avatar program where he has to go to Pandora jungle which is not a planet but it is one of the three giant gasses that is about 4 light years away from earth. On Pandora there are life forms such as the navis that are about 10 feet tall have sparkly blue skin, big eyes and tails. The humans have genetically bred human-navi hybrids known as Avatars. Jake is able to walk but falls in love with a female navi and now he has to choose the side between humans or the navis.
The film was absolutely fascinating, interesting, entertaining and emotional. I loved the look on the Pandora jungle and it must be the best scenery in film history and the navis are definitely the best digital characters since Gollum from The Lord of the Rings. The special effects are so amazing that Pandora looks like a real location and you can mistake the navis as real characters. Avatar was almost 3 hours but it didn't seem that long.
Avatar already makes it on my top 5 favourite movies and I intend to see it again and I am already waiting for it to release on Blu Ray because I'm sure that it will be one of the best Blu Ray titles.
Finally a real apocalypse movie
There have been many movies with end of the world story lines but there never was a movie made where we get to see the apocalypse happening properly but now we do with 2012. I was really disappointed with Ronald Emmerich's previous film 10,000BC but now he is back on track. The story is based on the Mayan calendar theory that the world will end in 21st December 2012.
Before I seen the movie I was wondering that how are they going to have a proper storyline for a 2.5 hour movie on just an end of the world topic but the movie revolved around many people such as a failed writer with family, the president and a geologist which made a really good 2.5 hour film & I loved the suspense that was building up towards the apocalypse. The best scene was the destruction at California. There were some comical scenes such that were really funny like the Indian man at the start said "that felt so good" and the chicken that was about to get headed also they did not ruin the movie because 2012 is meant to be a serious film.
Overall 2012 was a really interesting, entertaining, funny, emotional and a blockbuster movie. The only reason why anyone would hate it would be because it's that good.
This Is It (2009)
A fantastic tribute to the legend that will always live on in our hearts.
I truly love Michael Jackson ever since the first time I heard about him. He is the greatest singer, dancer, music composer, song writer, actor, entertainer and person the world has ever known. He is recognised as the King of Pop but that title is so limited for him because he is much, much more than that.
When I heard about his death I was about to faint and I felt sick, then I spent about five hours watching his music videos and I couldn't sleep all night. I never seen Michael Jackson perform live so I really wanted to see him at the O2 arena in London but sadly that cannot happen and now this movie is here so we can see him on the big screen.
I was really looking forward to this movie and counting the days remaining towards the release date when it was announced. This is the only movie I got the advanced tickets otherwise I always get the tickets on the day I see the movie. I usually get popcorn and juice at the movies but not for this one because I just wanted to focus on him.
Anyway This is it is really it. The movie was fantastic, amazing, heartfelt, emotional, colourful, glossy, and a visual treat. The director Kenny Ortega has done a really good job with the movie because there were about a hundred hours of footage of the rehearsals and he picked the out the best ones and compiled them in the right order creating a really good screenplay and the way the This is it concert would've been.
It is really hard to pick out the best bits because it was brilliant right from the very first second to the last. During the Human Nature song my heart was flying and I loved the new segments of Thriller and Earth Song.
I also felt really sad while watching this film because they are Michael's last days mainly the They Don't Care About Us song which was shot two days before his death. At the end of every song I starting applauding in the cinema and everyone else started to cheer as well. Although I never applauded in the cinema before.
Overall anything related to Michael Jackson is always great whether it is songs, music videos, interviews or even movies. If there is anything Michael can not do is make anything awful. I only his music and no one else's. Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, HIStroy, Blood On The Dance Floor and Invincible are my all time most favourite albums.
Michael Jackson may not be with us anymore but his legacy will live on forever and he still is and always will be the King of Kings. Michael Jackson I want to say "Thank You!" not "Goodbye".
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009)
G I Joe: Rise of an entertaining and rocking movie
G I Joe: Rise of Cobra is not a masterpiece or is going to the Oscars or anything like that. It is just a fun popcorn movie that has more than enough to keep you entertained.
I was really looking forward to this movie when the first time heard about it because it is directed by Stephen Sommers and I really like his style of film making. Not every single movie is worthy to watch on the big screen but his films are such as The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, Van Helsing and now G I Joe: Rise of Cobra.
The movie was absolutely awesome, it had amazing action, advanced technology, brilliant costumes, hundreds of vehicle explosions, reasonable storyline and twist & turns.
My most favourite parts are the chase scene in Paris & the test of the nano technology on the Eiffel tower not just because it had the most action but also because it was very well directed and the cameras were absolutely still so you can see what's happening and I loved it.
Overall there is nothing more you can ask from a movie like this and I intend to get it on blu ray.
Transforms into nothing but boredom
Yikes what happened to Michael Bay after he made the first enjoyable flick. I was forward to this one so I seen it on the IMAX and I hated it right from start to end. There was absolutely no story and so painfully boring throughout. The movie had so many ridiculous jokes (mostly sexual) that were not even a jot funny and they actually embarrass you.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen tried its level best to be as entertaining as possible but it actually had the opposite effect. Anyone who has liked this torture device should go see a doctor.
This is probably the second movie after The Dark Knight with IMAX scenes and even those scenes were awful, they were not well made and were merged to normal scenes. So there was an IMAX scene for a few seconds then a normal scene then IMAX until it drives you mad. The Dark Knight had amazing IMAX scenes. Anyway after I seen this stupid movie I had a headache for about a few hours. Overall it is the biggest let-down of the year after Spider Man 3.
Terminator Salvation (2009)
Salvation of the franchise
Terminator Salvation has saved the franchise. The first two terminator films are my all time favourites but the third one was not needed so a reboot was a much better idea than making Terminator 4.
Terminator Salvation is a beginning of a new trilogy and we finally get to see the war between the machines and the humans lead by John Connor instead of another time travel concept.
The movie was really interesting & entertaining right from the beginning to the end with a lot of soul about John Connor a prophet who is mankind's only hope for survival in a post-apocalyptic world.
We also get to see new machines instead of just the T-800s and they were a lot more darker & sinister looking than the ones in the previous films. Christian Bale's performance was amazing and McG who is not a well known director has done a really good job with a high budget summer movie.
So far the best movie to watch this year
2008 was a great year for comic book movies but this year isn't looking to good. Watchmen is probably the most anticipated comic book movie of the year which lived to its expectation. I'm into the DC comics and there aren't many films based on the DC universe and Watchmen is added into the list which is why this is one of the most awaited films of the year for me.
The story is set in an alternate 1985 America where tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union are high and the "Doomsday Clock" is set at five minutes to midnight, former superhero turned vigilante Rorschach discovers that one of his former colleagues has been murdered. As he investigates the murder he uncovers a plot that is intent on killing and discrediting all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with members of his former crime-fighting legion, including Nite Owl II, Silk Spectre II and Dr. Manhattan, they uncover a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy that not only links to their shared past but has catastrophic consequences for the future.
Watchmen is such an amazing film that is entertaining and exciting throughout, the story is really appealing and is assembled with glossy professionalism. I really like Zack Snyder's style of film making it is visionary and has lots of slow motions. The slow motion scenes may be annoying for some people but not for me because I think that it makes the scene very effective. The cinematography was excellent and you can see every penny spent from the $120 million budget.
Overall Watchmen doe's have something for most people to enjoy and I really intend to watch the movie again on the IMAX because I know that it will be like a dream world in that experience.
Friday the 13th (2009)
13 reasons why Friday the 13th is good
Back to Camp Crystal lake again. The twelfth (couldn't they have made it 13th?) Friday the 13th movie of my favourite teen slasher series, so long-time fans will have a fair idea what to expect. Probably also the ideal date movie for February 14.
Everything's getting remade and eventually horror will eat itself. This isn't actually a straight remake of the original but a do-over covering the first three films. This has high-impact Hollywood potential: Michael Bay is producing, the screenplay's written by the guys behind Freddy Vs Jason and Marcus Nispel, who helmed the not-awful Texas Chain Saw Massacre remake directs. The movie features Supernatural's Jared Padalecki, Amanda Righetti from The OC and Shark star Danielle Panabaker.
The 13 reasons why this movie rocked are: 1. A lot better than the original. 2. Keeps you entertained right from start to end. 3. The next Jason Voorhees film after 6 years. 4. Keeps you riveted. 5. Worth you time. 6. Worth your money. 7.Enough blood & gore to keep the slasher fans pleased. 8. A lot of scenes to "Wow" you. 9. Good screenplay. 10. Cool cinematography. 11. Takes you back to the awesome 80s. 12. Dark and sinister. 13. The kids head back to Crystal lake for another game of hockey.
Overall I don't mind remakes as long as they are good but this one a lot better than the original and do check this this one out on DVD if not the big screen.
Raaz: The Mystery Continues (2009)
Raaz- the Mystery that should be revealed
The movie deals with issues of the "evil within" the human psyche and how it manifests itself. It is based on the myths and superstitions that are still widely existent in the contemporary Indian society. The film attempts to challenge one's beliefs about paranormal phenomena. It is about anticipation of fear and the fright residing within ones' self. Emraan Hashmi plays a painter, named Prithvi, who has an extraordinary gift. His paintings tell Kangana Ranaut's character's future. It is a bit similar to The Omen but not a complete inspiration.
I really like scary horror movies which is what Raaz- the Mystery Continues is. It was really interesting and entertaining throughout and you just don't know that what is going to happen next. Bollywood has always been weak in the horror genre but they are showing some progress now. Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut both acted really well and I prefer eerie & frighting scenes in a horror movie rather than violence & gore because the main aim of horror genre is to scare which is what the film had.
The music of Emraan Hashmi's films are always good and the music of the first Raaz was amazing so it was important that the music is good for this movie and it was not as good as the first but the song Maahi is really haunting.
There is one thing I don't understand about the title that why is called "Raaz- the Mystery Continues"? Because it is not a sequel to the 2002 movie Raaz which was a Hollywood version of What Lies Beneath. They simply could've called it Raaz - the Mystery or Secret.
Underworld: Rise of a really good prequel
The prequel will trace the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires and their onetime slaves, the Lycans or werewolves. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Michael Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Viktor's daughter Sonja (Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.
I really liked the first two Underworld films because they were original screenplays and Vampires & Werewolves are my most favourite mythological characters. A prequel was a much better idea to the series instead of a third part because the only problem with the series was that their wasn't any explanation that why the Vampires and Werewolves are against each other and this movie does explains that. Underworld: Rise of the Lycans has a much better story-line than the first two movies were made so dark & sinister that really did suit the mood for the film. Rhona Mitra takes over Kate Beckinsale as the female lead although she wasn't better or worse but she did a pretty good job and this is her best film to date. Other than the story the movie has enough action to keep you entertained and had really good Werewolf transformations if you liked the first two Underworld films then you are going to love Rise of the Lycans.
My Bloody Valentine (2009)
Bloody brilliant 3D experience and a pretty good movie
My Bloody Valentine 3D is a remake of the 1981 Canadian slasher film of the same name which I never heard of before this movie was released. The film will have a 3-D theatrical release and is the first film released in Real D which is the main reason why I intended to see this movie because I have never seen a movie in 3D before and I generally like horror movies.
Ten years ago, a tragedy changed the town of Harmony forever. Tom Hanniger (Jensen Ackles), an inexperienced coal miner, caused an accident in the tunnels that trapped and killed five men and sent the only survivor, Harry Warden (Richard John Walters), into a coma. But Harry Warden wanted revenge. Exactly one year later, on Valentine's Day, he woke up and brutally murdered twenty-two people with a pick axe before being killed.
Ten years later, Tom Hanniger returns to Harmony on Valentine's Day, still haunted by the deaths he caused. Struggling to make amends with his past, he grapples with unresolved feelings for his ex-girlfriend, Sarah (Jaime King), who is now married to his best friend, Axel (Kerr Smith), the town sheriff. But tonight, after years of peace, something from Harmony's dark past has returned. Wearing a miner's mask and armed with a pick axe, an unstoppable killer is on the loose. And as his footsteps come ever closer, Tom, Sarah and Axel realise in terror that it just might be Harry Warden who's come back to claim them...
The 3D experience was amazing and so lifelike which seems like that it is really happening. The movie was pretty good that was best viewed at the 3D theatre although it is another slasher movie which has been tackled a lot of times in Hollywood but I had no problem with it because I had a good time watching it. It is not the kind of film that is going to appeal to everyone and it is best not to take it too seriously. I would recommend it to people who liked movies like Scream. The story is simple and the cast is unknown but it is better that way because then you can just concentrate on the mystery. Overall if want a good 3D experience and/or like horror slasher film then My Bloody Valentine is the movie for you.
Chandni Chowk to China (2009)
Mad in China
It is the first Hindi film to be shot in China and is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. Chandni Chowk to China is said to be a semi-autobiographical film portraying Akshay Kumar's life before he was an actor. He himself agreed that about 50% of the film is based on his life. The story is about a chef who is mistaken to be a reincarnated martial arts expert. While Deepika Padukone is essaying a double role in the film, a Chinese woman and an Indian woman. The action comedy is heavily inspired by the Jackie Chan movies.
Although I like Akshay Kumar & Deepika Padukone but I didn't really intend to see the film because I was put off by the dopey promos, dry music and I didn't like Akshay's previous two movies Tashan & Singh is Kinng. But my friend intended to see it and he wanted me to accompany him so I went to see it and anyway you can't judge a book by its cover and it was worse than I thought.
The whole movie especially the first 15 minutes was sooooooo daft that tried to be funny but it was laughably bad. When Akshay's dad kept on kicking his bum and he flew right up to the sky was so bad that I looked around to see if there was any excuse that I can find to walk away from the screen. The movie was really daft and insults your intelligence right from start to end and Akshay Kumar's reasonable performance and Deepika Padukone's Chinese look couldn't even save this turkey.
Chandni Chowk to China is supposed to be an action comedy but didn't have any action or comedy. The other downside is that the songs were not good and the only catchy tune is the rap song CC2C sung by Akshay Kumar and composed by Punjabi rapper Bohemia. Overall me and my friend regretted watching it and the movie made our day (sarcasm). Overall Akshay Kumar has a really bad habit of choosing bad and really bad films. If this continues as it was indicated in the end then there is no other choice to throw eggs and tomatoes at the director before the shooting begins.
Aamir Khan's worst movie to date
The only Aamir Khan release this year is a remake of a south Indian film of the same name which is similar to Hollywood film Memento. A thriller that revolves around Sanjay (Aamir Khan) with a short-term memory trying to catch some killers. Memento is one of the most unique and intriguing thrillers of all time that you immediately want to see again and it is one of my most favourite films. Ghajini is just an inspiration but not exactly a remake and anyway remakes don't bother me so I just seen it as how entertaining it is and it is also an Aamir Khan film and he is one of the best actors in India.
Ghajini was absolutely rubbish, awful and I never realised that how long 3 hours can be. The movie just does not get to the point and Sanjay's back story was dragged so badly that I just can not explain. The new girl Asin can't act at all. There wasn't any drama, romance, action, thrills and any masala for a Bollywood movie and Aamir Khan couldn't even save this turkey. The budget is a lot higher than Memento which is about 40 crore ($11 million) while Memento was $5 million and I just don't know that where all that money went probably to Aamir for doing this pile of trash. The music is really good composed by the legendary A R Rehman and the best songs are Gurarish & Aye Bachchu but the songs are forced into the film and they jump out unexpectedly. If I haven't seen Memento before then I still would've not liked it. Bollywood really need to learn to be more original. Anyway the director of this movie can't even copy well then never mind coming up with something original.
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008)
Aditya Ne Banadi Wonderful film
The movie was already the most hotly anticipated film of the year when it was announced in March because it is finally the third directorial outing of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Mohabbatein director Aditya Chopra. Aditya's films always turn out to be good and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is his next movie 8 years after Mohabbatein.
The story is about an 'odd' couple played by Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma who find true love in the backdrop of a dance competition called "Dancing Jodi". Surinder Sahni (Shahrukh Khan), a man working for Punjab Power, who falls in love with Taani (Anushka Sharma) the flamboyant, fun-loving, vivacious girl for whom the whole world is her canvas and she paints her own life with the colours of rainbow all until unforeseen circumstances changes it all and brings them together. They get married and lead a not-so happy life due to huge age difference between Surinder and Taani. Taani, meanwhile, wants to participate in a reality dance show called "Dancing Jodi," which is the main backdrop of the movie. The dance contest showcases couples of all races, colours, backgrounds and sexual preferences. Taani wants to take part for the show, but she is not able to due to her husband's lack of fashion statement. Later on when Surinder finds out about his wife's wish to participate in the reality dance show, he undergoes a major change. Taani keeps falling in love with her changed husband.
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is such a beautiful film that touches your heart that makes you cry and laugh in some points like Shahrukh against a sumo wrestler. Some of my friends thought that it looked rubbish because in the promos Shahrukh Khan had a moustache, and comb over and was wearing bad cloths but is truly the best the best Bollywood movie of the year after a long list of turkeys. It is also the first Shahrukh film of the year and before this he made special appearances in Krazzy 4 and Bhootnath.
The music is brilliant although they can't match with the classic soundtracks of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Mohabbatein but there were about 5 songs and every single song was good and I don't know what the best songs are.
It is a must see unless you do not like Shahrukh or have a heart of stone because there is no way you are going to like it.
Golmaal Returns (2008)
Best Comedy of the year
I just don't know that why everyone hates this movie so much because it's a million times better than the recent rubbish comedies that lacked a single decent joke and had no story like Singh is Kinng & Dostana. Golmaal Returns surpassed the original and was so painfully funny that I had a sore stomach.
The story of the film is about Gopal (Ajay Devgan), who lives with his wife Ekta (Kareena Kapoor), sister Esha (Amrita Arora) and a dumb brother-in-law Lucky (Tusshar Kapoor), gets stuck in a yacht one night after he saves an attractive young woman Meera (Celina Jaitley) from the dreaded goons, while on his way back home from office. Due to the circumstances, both of them stay back on the yacht.
When he arrives home the next day, his over suspicious wife Ekta, a hard core saas-bahu serial's fan, suspects him of flirting around with his female employees. Gopal thinks that it's difficult to convince her by telling her about the incident that actually took place the prior night and hence, he invents a story about spending the night with a fictitious friend named Anthony Gonsalves. Ekta does not believe his story as she knows that he never had a friend by that name, and hence, she decides to write to Anthony to come and visit her.
Gopal then convinces one of his juniors, Laxman (Shreyas Talpade) who is Meera's boyfriend, to pretend like Anthony, and thus convince Ekta that he was indeed telling the truth. Laxman agrees to do so, and everything goes according to plan until the address on which Ekta had written a letter to Anthony turns out to be real. Meanwhile, Gopal finds out that a dead body was found at the same location where he saved Meera from the goons. The Investigating Officer Madhav (Arshad Warsi), who also happens to be Esha's boyfriend, does not get along well with Gopal. He finds out that Gopal was missing from his home that very night and that the dead person was Gopal's colleague and Gopal had threatened to kill him over a spat. Madhav also finds out that Lakshman is not the real Anthony. He asks Gopal to get Meera to the police station to prove that Gopal had been with her, not murdering his employee. In panic, his friends hire a woman called Munni who needs money to get her boyfriend Vasuli (A character from the previous Golmaal) out of jail. But Munni is kidnapped by the murderer.
In a rage, Vasuli comes to Gopal's house, where Gopal, Lakshman and Lucky learn the woman was none other than Meera. After an initial shock, they decide to go to the police station. However, Vasuli kidnaps Meera in anger, and they follow him, along Madhav, Esha and Ekta. Gopal learns that this was a plot concocted by his employer to frame him for the murder. Through a series of comic events, Ekta gets back with Gopal and they have their happy ending.
The music is also really good and the best song is Tha Karke and it is probably the most expensive song in the history of Bollywood with a budget of 10 crore. Overall Golmaal Returns is simply the comedy of the year and is one of the only films that made me laugh after a long time probably after The Simpsons Movie.
Transporter 3 (2008)
Best out of all three of them
Jason Statham returns in his signature role as fearless ex-mercenary Frank Martin (aka The Transporter), a specialist in moving precious cargo of all kinds with a cool style and attitude.
I liked the previous Transporter films and this one is the best out of all of them not mainly because of the action but because this one had a better story-line than the first two. The story is about Frank Martin has been pressured into transporting Valentina (by using a device which prevents him from moving 75 feet from his car or the bomb explodes) the kidnapped daughter of Leonid Vasilev the head of the Environmental Protection Agency for Ukraine, from Marseilles through Stuttgart and Budapest until he ends up in Odessa on the Black Sea. Along the way, with the help of Inspector Tarconi, Frank has to contend with the people who strong armed him to take the job, agents sent by Vasilev to intercept him, and the general non-cooperation of his passenger. Despite Valentina's cynical disposition and Frank's resistance to get involved, Frank and Valentina fall for each other, while escaping from one life-threatening situation after another. Statham again drives an armoured Audi S8 in the film.
Other than the story the movie was loaded with ultra cool action sequences and spectacular stunts that will keep you in the edge of your seat. I'm generally not really keen in action movies because they are all the same but Transporter 3 is different and I had a good time watching it. Overall it is a fun, popcorn action movie of the year.
All style but not much substance
Veteran director Subhash Ghai is hoping to resurrect some of the credibility he lost with his previous flops Yaadein & Kisna with this glossy drama. I never really intended to see it when I heard about it because Katrina Kaif is in it and all of her films suck (except Race). But the promos was so good and I loved the music especially the Dost song composed by the best music composer & lyrics writer combo A R Rehman and Gulzar. So I seen it anyway and its about Yuvvraaj (Prince) who gets thrown out of his family. He wants to get married to this really rich girl but her father wants her to marry someone else. So he signs a contract with him that in 40 days, he will become twice as rich as him. He eventually gets closer to one of his brothers and realises that he is happy to help him without wanting anything.
The story & screenplay is o.k. but it's quite long for a 2.5 hour movie because their wasn't enough to make it that long. None of the actors acted well except Anil Kapoor and Katrina Kaif was simply the worst, she is completely crap. Neither she knows acting, language (her voice is always dubbed for her), dance and always fails to impress. I do not like her one bit and if she was replaced by someone else then that would've helped a lot. The film had big sets that were so good and visually impressive that they keep you in your seat throughout. Overall if you have nothing to do on a rainy day or something then watch it but Yuvvraaj is nothing to look forward to.
"Shut up and Bounce away from this movie"
I have always liked John Abraham's films especially Dhoom, Karam, Zinda & No Smoking but this is simply his worst movie to date. I don't know what Karan Johar was thinking to produce this rubbish movie with no story and is about homosexuality which is a really rubbish topic. Dostana is a rip off of I Now Pronounce You Chunk and Larry and the terrible director of the movie can't even copy well. He should learn that having good music, good looking cast and attractive clothes is not the formula for a good film. The worst thing of the movie is the screenplay and no background score. Overall Dostana is far from entertaining & beyond boring and lacked a single decent joke.
I only seen the first half but then when Sameer's mum came and she was the salt on the wound so then I couldn't take it anymore and I left the movie. It is very rare for me to leave a movie half way though I only do it about 1 in 1000 films, so basically Dostana is not just John Abraham's worst film but one of the worst films I have ever seen. Anyone who has rated the movie a 1 out of 10 rating are very sensible and I personally would like to salute them. Dostana has more than enough of what an awful film should have. Only John Abraham acted well and the music is good composed by my favourite composers Vishal & Shekher, the best songs are Jaane Kyun Desi Girl & Shut up and Bounce. But the movie is so bad that they couldn't even save it.
Zombie Strippers (2008)
Porn of the dead
The film had a very catchy title that will make you want to watch the movie especially for young men. I intended to watch it because I really like zombie films although it is a B movie. Zombie Strippers is about a deadly chemical virus is leaked by a secret government agency. A nearby strip club, "Rhino's", is the first place to be affected. The deadly virus somehow turns the girls into super sexy zombie strippers, which proves surprisingly lucrative for the club's owner.
It is not the best or the worst movie because it doe's have enough to keep you entertained, the death scenes were very creative and I really liked the look of the zombies. It started off really good but dragged a bit when the strip club came and you have to wait for the zombie strippers to arrive and then it gets to the point. The downside of the movie is that there wasn't enough story for a full length feature film and would've been better if it was a TV episode or something. But I didn't have a bad time watching it and if you like zombies and/or strippers then you may like it but if you want a good story then its best avoided.
This is the first film I've seen that is made in handy cam style and I thought that it was a very well made movie and didn't have that many shaky camera effects so you can see what is happening. Cloverfield gives you the true real feeling of getting stuck in a city that is being attacked by a giant monster and you have a handy cam. Movies like Godzilla & King Kong shows that where the monster came from and what is it's end but if you are in the city that is being attacked by the monster you won't know anything about it which Cloverfield did by not showing us the beginning and the end of the monster and they did a fantastic job. When the head of the statue of liberty went flying across the street was so awesome and breathtaking.
In the first 20 minutes before New York was being attacked there was just some friends being videotaped in a party which looked very natural then all of a sudden it got into action. The whole film was so lifelike and realistic that it seems you are actually watching a real life video. There were some shots of the monster throughout but there was a clear sharp image of it in the end and it looked like a giant bat. Cloverfield was about 70 minutes which was a good idea because it is made in handy cam style and should be shorter than the normal running length. Overall it was a very thrilling, exciting and entertaining movie and you just don't know what's going to happen next.
The most glamorous film of the year
Madhur Bhandar the director has shown the dark side of celebrities in Page 3, business in Corporate and now he is showing us the dark side of models in fashion.
The movie is really good that has a very interesting story based on a real life model played by Priyanka Chopra as Meghna Mathur. It shows the life of models when they are not on a catwalk wearing make-up, lipstick, nail polish and wearing glamorous dresses. But it was also very stylish, visually impressive and doesn't just show the dark side because fashion is a great thing as well. Fashion has a very important message that we can all learn from especially the girls and young women who intend to be a model. The film may seem that it will only appeal to the female audience but the story is so good that it's also good for male. Priyanka Chopra may have delivered six flops in a row but it was still her best performance of the year.
The story is about Meghna Mathur who is a small town girl with a dream and the determination, she knew in her bones that she was meant to be famous. The world of fashion - the clothes, the colours, the make-up... all of these form a part of a fascinating world that Meghna longed to be a part of and she would do anything to reach the top. She reaches the peak of her success and rises to walk the ramps for leading designers across India. However karma catches up with Meghna as she slowly starts to pay the price for her fame and her journey to the top but her attempt at a comeback was going to be a near impossibility. Basically it is a journey of the rise and fall.
Whether it's an original film or the music that has killer tunes, film director Madhur Bhandar always has the ability to surprise you. The music for Fashion is no different. Heavy beats combine well with powerful melodies on solid songs. The pick of the great songs are Fashion Ka Jalwa and the superb Mar Jaawa.
Overall it was such a good film and I would recommend it to those who want a different story but not to those who don't like people talking throughout the whole film.
Roadside Romeo (2008)
Yash Raj Films are back on track
I was beginning to think that Yash Raj Films were losing their touch after delivering a list of box office flops which is Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Aaja Nachle, Tashan & Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic but not after watching Bachna Ae Haseeno & Roadside Romeo. Roadside Romeo is the film which set to launch the animation era in Bollywood is co production between Yash Raj Films and Disney. The love story, revolving around talking dogs, has the voices of real-life couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor.
The film was really good, funny, lively and keeps a smile on your face throughout. I intended to see it because it is the first proper animated film of Bollywood and that is a milestone. Javed Jaffery has given the best vocal performance of the comic villain Charlie Anna who is a bulldog. The animation was really great although it can't match with Pixar animation but still it's good for a Bollywood movie. It has all the Indian masala like music, songs, dancing and a love story but it wasn't long and was about 1 hour 40 minutes. The songs were really good that will get better after you watch the film. Overall this is an absolute entertaining flick for all the kids & adults.
