Life Below Zero: First Alaskans (2022)
Man I love these guys!
This is miles better than LBZ and LBZNG, even Port Protection. Get weary watching newbies lacking the skills to kill without just wounding then chasing and often losing the animal to escape in agony. I think most of these guys would totally win on "Alone". Sure, there's the scripted moralizing and boasting, but much more deserved. The couple drinking blood freaked me out a bit. And I sure wish they could get enough fur from the animals they also eat, hate that they feel it necessary to kill just for fur. Love the guy teaching the little kids ice-fishing. Curious if there's on-grid electricity, don't think I've seen anything about solar or a generator. Also wondering if a couple of those little kids will be able to get orthodonture when old enough...
McLeod's Daughters (2001)
AKA "Who's Your Daddy? or Mommy?"
Much of the entire series is Maury Povich material.
Charlotte. Alex. Jodi. Rose.
Large talent in Becky, Meg, Terry, Moira, and Dave.
Highly doubt real rancher-women wear jeans cut that low with bared midriffs.
However, addicting series.
Heartland (2007)
It's the writers, maybe
I'd like to think Amber Marshall can act, but she shows zero passion for Ty, the boy/man she's supposed to be in love with from the get-go. Actually pulls away from him.
I'd like to think they meant for Lou to show character growth, but she's ego-driven, selfish, entitled throughout. It got really old.
Jack's great. Tim, Ty, and Caleb are fine, exactly what they're written to be. Mallory, like Lou, zero and only annoying.
Still, I've watched the series 3 times.
Clarkson's Farm (2021)
Brilliant!
I sure loved this! Never had seen this guy, but if you ever watched Top Gear or his other shows, you'd know him. This is so brilliant. He decides to be a real farmer, and actually DOES it! Grain crops, lambs, veg, trout pond, bees. During Covid, with an extremely dysfunctional set of farmhands. Hilarious, visually stunning, real.
And So It Goes (2014)
Meh
Can't stand Diane Keaton on her best day and this didn't change my mind. She phoned it in. Her repetitious under-her-breath murmured "ums and ohs" fillers are so GD annoying. Douglas was fine, for what it was, miles better than Keaton. I DID watch the whole thing, unusual for me with a Keaton movie.
McLeod's Daughters: Conflicts of Interest (2007)
SO contrived.
This has become entirely bad soap opera. PLUS, I finally need to ask this: is it possible real female ranchers all wore such very low-rise jeans in that decade? Looks like an accident waiting to happen.
Bed of Roses (2008)
Uff Da
Horrendous acting for the most part, but liked the story line enough to stick with it. Main character AND her daughter both do that Diane Keaton thing (murmurations, uhs, uh-huhs, mmms) constantly. Main facial expression is this rictus grin, inserted whenever embarrassment, error, faux pas, actual engagement is called for.
