YES TO LIFE!
8 March 2019
Driver X is a charming, feel-good film with a tender heart. The cinematography is masterful, a true-to-life peek at L.A. after dark. The acting is first class, especially Patrick Fabian as Leonard, the good-hearted 50-something father and house husband, who is forced to sell The Last Record Store in L.A. There is humor in watching the struggling couple who have to clean their own pool and give up Netflix to make the mortgage. We are rooting for them. The ambiguous ending seems to say, "It doesn't matter if you don't know where you're going, just keep driving." Yes! That's how life is. Everything doesn't have to be tied up with a bow because our hero is giving it his best shot. In the end, he's a winner because he cares. My favorite part is when Tom (Desmin Borges), Leonard's neighbor, quotes his therapist who says you can tell your partner the truth about anything you want if you end with, "But I still love you."
