Magic City (2012)
Well I feel this show has everything good TV should bring to the screen.
The cast is excellent and acting is all on form all round. The sets and wardrobes are top notch and the attention to detail is as good as any period show on TV at the moment.
Its great to see the likes of Kelly Lynch in such a good role again at last.
Danny Huston delivers a hauntingly brilliant villain and Jef Morgan is possibly at his career best yet.
As for the women in the show, well need I say anything...
I'm happily addicted to the show and lets hope this one stays around for some time
The Virgin Suicides (1999)
Who's ya daddy?
Being the daughter of Francis Ford Coppolla and the wife of genius Spike `Being John Malkovich' Jonze, there was a lot of pressure on the standard of Sofia's directorial debut. To be honest I think the girl had balls for even looking at a camera.
As cinematic as the book is, Jeffrey Eugenide's novel demanded a directing talent with great emotional understanding and vision. In my view, Sofia was the perfect choice. The essence of nostalgia she has captured from the 70's middle class life in suburbia is truly inspiring.
The Virgin Suicides focuses on the life of five beautiful young girls, the Lisbon sisters. At its core, it is a mystery story, a heart-rending investigation into the impenetrable, life-altering secrets of American adolescence.
After one of the five sisters throws her self from a bedroom window, the remaining four are locked up behind closed doors, away from the fun, the boys and everything that makes little girls, little girls. It's not difficult to guess how it all ends. Fantastic.
