Living in the N.E. in the 50's, 60's, I can relate passionately to the multiple plots of this movie. While 'political correctness' is today's entertainment cliche', this movie adds painful passion to what many have merely read in books or whispered about. Though it is now (2003) over 40 years old, it's message in America is still applicable.
From ethnic fraud and denial to social crossings and uplifting, the movie supports the quote that "... I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be ..." and so on. We are not many countries based on our cultures. We are 1 nation, based on our being human- indeed- 1 world! I leave you a fair warning, this movie may bring tears to eyes and give new meaning to "count your blessings". Enjoy, a hollywood mistake, a 40y.o. movie that imitated real life.
