My favorite Star Trek movie.
It is difficult to say because this one is not typical Star Trek, but this film could be my favorite of all the Star Trek films. I probably have seen it more times than the others. Kirk and his crew travel back to late-1980's San Francisco. The humor in this movie is terrific. The crew seems to stand out like sore thumbs - particularly Mr Spock. Vulnerability to the era causes problems, while adding laughs at the same time. What probably makes me enjoy this one the best, in addition to the humor, is the time travel. I seem to have a particular liking for films that have time travel, or the altering of time ( the Back to the Future movies, Frequency, etc.) No doubt about it, Star Trek IV is always exciting and fun to watch.
New York Yankees (The Movie) (1987)
The most complete chronicle on the Yankees!
I had this video when it came out, but have not seen it since mine broke about 10 years ago. I remember the movie goes through the entire history of the team. It showed all the World Series the Yankees played in. Each different era is depicted perfectly. Any great Yankee you can think of is in this. Very well-done. The only flaw I saw in the movie was how briefly Phil Rizzuto is in the film. Rizzuto was the Yanks greatest shortstop, but he is barely in the movie. I was always surprised how little attention he got. Especially considering this movie is from the late 1980's, when the Hall of Fame argument concerning Rizzuto was still in full force. The film makes Rizzuto look like a very minor part of the scene. Tony Kubek, Bobby Richardson and Frank Crosetti got more time in the movie than Rizzuto. They deserve it, but Rizzuto got less than he deserved. Otherwise, this movie was fantastic! Definitely a must see for any Yankee fan. Great!
Billy the Kid (1989)
Billy the Kid (1989)
I saw this movie for the first time on TV earlier this year. Though not as great as "Lonesome Dove", "Billy the Kid" was good. I didn't quite get to see the entire film that time, however. Plus, it doesn't seem to be available to rent, anywhere. I thought it was good, but not as much action as some others.
My favorite film of the year!
Frequency is a great movie. It is my favorite of the year. Like many people have said, it is exciting, heart warming, eerie and great acting by everyone in it. This movie keeps the viewer watching every minute. I like the baseball theme that serves as an interesting backdrop to everything else that happens. Frequency is "Back to the Future", "Field of Dreams" and "the Sixth Sense" all rolled into one. But, Frequency is totally unique from those three. That is a great group of films to have semi combined into one. However, I am surprised how little attention Frequency has received during the year. Frequency doesn't get the credit that those movies got when they came out. Back to the Future was a huge hit in 1985, plus the sequels. Field of Dreams is a favorite among baseball movies. The Sixth Sense was called the best ever in its category last year. Frequency, seemingly well-liked, has received none of that. Something is off there.
Little Big League (1994)
A nice baseball film
A great baseball movie. Maybe the best baseball movie of the 1990's. Though more for children, I thought it was good for any true fan of the game. The film was well done all-around. It was funny how the players look so big compared to 12-year-old Billy Heywood, who is to be the leader. Actual major league players are in this movie, too.
