The 1980s had Rain Main (1988) for autism and My Left Foot (1989) for cerebral palsy. The 1990s had Philadelphia (1993) looking at AIDS and Leaving Las Vegas (1995) at alcoholism. Ultimately, the last 15 years and especially 2014 have had many more successful movies (and memorable performances!) with the main theme of illness.
