A potentially good revival ruined by being too PC!
This show is way over the top with being PC. While we are all against racism, global warming, and sexual intolerance, it doesn't mean that all of that has to be written into a TV show. Have "windfarms" taken the place of oil fields and people fighting over them? That's what seems to be happening on this series. Is half of high society black? I believe it is still dominated mostly by white people. Are gay relationships and interacial relationships so easily accepted in real life as they are in this series? Why can't producers just make an interesting series that resembles the real world...as I watch this series, I keep rolling my eyes and hope that someday producers will get over this obsession with being PC.
Horrible laugh track, horrible show!
It seems like every other line is supposed to be funny...how do I know...they throw in the laugh track. I have never reviewed a laugh track before but this show needs a new one. Every laugh sounds the same...an real audience would laugh differently at different jokes...however, the producers of this monstrosity decided that using the same sounding laugh over and over and over would make this show funny. The actual show is horrible, old situations that have been done already (how men are inept at putting a crib together...mother that thinks she know better, father who is hen-pecked, etc.) And finally, the latest craze in TV...the star of the show has a cool black friend! Give us viewers a break!
Candy Crush (2017)
One of the Most Ill-Conceived Ganeshows in The History of Television!
It is painful to watch this show...it is a jumbled mess. It is almost laughable. The producers have no idea how to put together a gameshow. There are so many problems...
1) The Game: There is hardly a game...they have to match up candies. And that's all there is...over and over...over and over...except they have to do it under different physical conditions...not very exciting. It's impossible for the viewer to "play along." All viewers can do is watch...and it is extremely hard to follow.
2) The contestants: They are absolutely the most obnoxious people around...They're cocky but they act like they are so cute and wonderful. Their comments and dialog seems so scripted. Nothing seems natural.
3) The direction: Somebody please tell the director that viewers are at least attempting to follow along...and we cannot follow along if the director keeps cutting away from the game to show us Mario Lopez narrating the action...STAY ON THE GAME ACTION! 4) The $100,000 prize: When the top prize is guaranteed to be given away on each show, the excitement level drops 90%. On this show, two teams vie for the money at the end of the show...one will definitely get it...thus, it's not IF they get it, it's WHO will get it. Since both teams are obnoxious, I don't care! I feel sorry for Mario Lopez...he seems like such a nice fellow and I'll bet he would make a good M.C. However, he should get a new manager...I don't care how much they are paying you, Mario, it's not worth tarnishing your career with this turkey.
The Gong Show (2017)
Can this show please gong itself?
This is a sad reconstruction of the 1970's show. The producers completely missed the mark on why the original was a hit...the original did not take itself too seriously, the host loved the show and did not mock it, the judges seemed real and unscripted.
This version has big, big production values (a huge stage, a huge gong, and an audience made up of good-looking Millennials (why no older people or no schlubs?). Mike Myers parades around mocking the show, himself, the acts, and the judges. The camera cuts to him whenever he does some lame schtick. The judges laugh at EVERYTHING? The audience laughs at EVERYTHING. I guess the producers feel that if everyone is laughing the show MUST be funny! Many acts on the original, although dumb, were at least entertaining. Most of the acts on this show are dumb for the sake of being dumb. The judges, who do not look like they really want to be there, in an attempt to be funny, will gong acts just because they think its funny to gong acts. However, the downside of this, is that a couple of genuinely clever acts were eliminated while other, less creative, acts got high scores.
Finally, the show seems to be completely fabricated in the editing room. Reaction shots from the audience do not feel real...they seem like they were acted out on direction of the producers ("now, we want you to laugh as if you just saw something funny."). And acts are cut out...at the end of the first show and at the end of the second show, when all the acts are brought out on stage, there are a few that were never seen during the show.
Great News (2017)
Every character is annoying!
I have watched many shows where the main character is annoying, but the supporting players are fine. This show manages to have EVERY character annoying. The lead in this show is a woman who talks too fast and too much and is a real millennial whiner. Her mother is supposed to be lovable but she is too overbearing. The "British" executive producer in charge of the show is not likable at all...which he should be in a show like this. Horatio Sanz is completely wasted in his character as an editor/director. The worst part...all the so-called jokes were predictable...you can see them coming.
Imaginary Mary (2017)
Do the writers know their characters are all annoying!
This sitcom definitely needs new writers. Each character comes across as whiny or annoying. Mary, the imaginary friend has a voice that drives me crazy...constantly jabbering about everything. Elfmans character is quite whiny and is way to old to have such problems that only a 20 year old would have. Her boyfriend is too self-assured and I question why he would want her as his girlfriend. And the kids...they are beyond annoying and reach into the realm of obnoxiousness.
There was not one true laugh during this show...I could only make it about 20 minutes until I had to change channels.
Unintelligible Alien Copy
Much of the movie is unintelligible...several of the characters are from other countries and speak with accents that at sometimes quite hard to understand...thus, I didn't know what the heck they were doing much of the time and why.
The biggest flaw is that it is a remake of Alien, except in a different locale. Even the ending smells of Alien. No new thinking here! Unfortunately, they took the Alien story and made it silly. Smart people doing really dumb things. The only redeeming part of this movie is the beginning shot...a long 5 minutes or so sequence without a visible edit cut...that was amazing.
Rogue One (2016)
The movie was completely void of any humor or light heartedness except for a extremely few pathetic attempts. The brilliance of the very first Starwars was the action coupled with a sense of fun and adventure. This movie was SO serious that it was boring. The lead actress was quite forgettable in her role and for the first 40 minutes it was extremely hard to keep track of who was who and who was doing what!
The other things that began to annoy me was the extreme fast cutting so that it was hard to follow the fights and the pretentious music in the background. The music just reeked of saying "this movie is important because this music sounds important." After about an hour we walked out!
Life in Pieces (2015)
Not a family show and not suitable for 8:30 PM time slot
This show is not suitable for family viewing...there are far too many sexual situations on the show...sometimes it gets rather explicit and has no place being on so early in the evening when kids are still up. Beside the sexual situations, the other events are rather implausible and seem to be made up just to advance a joke the writers think is funny. It might seem funny in theory about a man who holds a funeral for himself while he's still alive so he can attend it, but in reality, it would be stupid and no one would attend. Having sex in a hotel's ice machine room is quite risky for anyone but somehow this show thinks a middle age couple with kids would actually attempt to do it there. Overall the show was a big thud!
Weird Loners (2015)
Should be called "Obnoxious, Despicable,Self-absorbed Outcasts"
It might be hyperbole, but I don't think there has ever been a show with such obnoxious and despicable people. All four of them are annoying. The Knighton character actually confesses that he got a girl pregnant and left her. There is no way anyone is going to like him...even scumbags of the world know that is a horrible thing to do. The Torrance character is seemingly unfeeling when the father he has lived with suddenly dies. The Newton character breaks off her engagement to her boyfriend in the most unfeeling and cruel way. The Kumbhani character has a real annoying whinny voice (as does the Newton character). And do the producers think that constant talking about sex is a substitute for comedy writing?
