Odd Thomas (2013)
Excellent popcorn movie
Yep, definitely a Stephen Sommers movie. Action, comedy, tension and especially tempo... For me it was the best popcorn movie of 2013 (still a few months to go, so who knows).. Stephen Sommers shows what he's really good at, creating excellent popcorn movies which keep you at the edge of your seat from start to finish, not a moment does it get boring...
I'm not gonna tell anything about the story, you'll have to see it for yourself, but if you like Peter Jackson's "the frighteners" you'll also gonna love this one...
And I never read the book(s), so I cannot tell if it has anything in common with the books, but I certainly don't care, because if the books are anything like the movie I might even consider reading them..
Hopefully it will get enough money for a sequel (but not a crap one like the one to Stephen Sommers last movie GIJOE (part 2 really sucked in comparison to the first one IMHO))..
The Thin Red Line (1998)
boring and pretentious monologues
This one starts sooo slow, and goes really nowhere... The most annoying thing about the whole movie is that you just don't care about any of the characters (at least I didn't) as the story just hops from one to another and back without you really getting to know the character. The other most annoying thing is the pretentious overwritten dialog, a lot of times it is spoken with such an slow overacted southern tone just to make you think the monologue is any good and deep (the 'narration' or what the character is thinking). The regular spoken dialogs between characters is also not that interesting.. And how about overacting of some actors who hoped to get an Oscar with it.. The movie runtime is about 170minutes, but most time is wasted on useless pan's and slow dialogs/monologues.. Also some scenes where so overly 'look at this' and really had nothing really to add to the story.
If they had tightened the script, concentrated the amount of characters to follow it could have been one hell of a movie..
The war-action is well done, but because of the slow pace of the rest it really makes you not care anymore or really excited..
It's nothing like 'apocalypse now', 'saving private ryan', 'Full metal jacket' or any other kind of war-movie I have seen, it's just a 170 minutes long boring movie...
Reign in Darkness (2002)
Couldn't finish it
This is the first time I've ever turned of the movie before the ending. I already started getting worried when I saw the first images.. the movie was recorder with a simple dvcam (or even worse).. The acting is real bad, the camera-work is also very boring and the 'action' is mostly plain stupid...
It's OK for an amateur-movie for the friends of the actors/crew, but it's an awful production for someone who has to pay for it. I expected at least a C-movie.
I'm sorry but I can't be positive about it, and I can't forgive the dutch publisher who put this trash on DVD (I'm glad it was part of a 4-movie DVD which only cost 3 euro's)..
Should have had a better plot. (or a plot at all)
Well the ending really sucked. It didn't leave me with good feeling, Hmmm cop pointing gun at the doctor (who only drew the gun because he was being threathed by the gang, And I think he was in his right),
The best ending would have been in this case that they just were on time with the money (the current ending just makes you hate these guys even more).. Steeling from those richies isn't also accepted these days, (Where do you draw the line about who is rich and who isn't). But beside those points the movie was very entertaining (it also has it's share of continuation problems, but which movie doesn't)..
Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002)
Worst powers yet
Last night I saw Austin Powers 3, but this is really a piece of crap, there are some funny jokes in there, but there's even less a story than there was in the first 2, and a lot of jokes are just right out of the first 2. The movie starts great, but as soon as Mike shows his face, the movie goes down the drain. I certainly hope that this is the last one.. If you really want to see this movie, go rent it...
Worst movie EVER!!!
I have seen this movie, but I cannot recommend it to anyone... It's the worst movie I've seen in about 10 years, Poor acting, No story whatsoever, much too long, wrong use of camera for the time it takes place (My god they used Video in an movie that takes place in 1960-70). The movie is just a bunch of scenes which are put together with no real coherent story, You never know how much time has passed, at one time they say something like 'He finally got his title back which was taken from him in 1967' but it's not clear in which year he got his title back (Maybe unless you are a ali/boxing fan), it wasn't even really clear in what year his title got taken.. Some scenes are much too long and have no real relation to the movie (Like Malcom X being shot, you see a whole 5 minute or so on him being shot, but you only see 10 seconds of ali in mourn about his 'friend'.. BS.. a radio message was more than enough to portrait MX being shot) And there are far more examples of MX throughout the movie...
If you think 'The Insider' was boring, don't go to ALI...
Micheal Mann had some good movies, but his last good one was HEAT....
Jeepers Creepers (2001)
The worst horror of the last 10 years
In my country the advertisment is 'The best horror of the last 10 years'. I don't know which movie they where reviewing, but it couldn't be jeepers creepers.. ok I have to admit it starts nice, but after an half hour is becomes the worst horror ever... You get to see the 'monster' completly, and the moment you do the movie sucks beyond believe... The ending is also so lame and stupid, it really sucks... It could have been a good movie, but the made some big mistakes...
I really don't understand how people can find this movie scary and the best horror of the last 10 years..
My advice... stay the hell away from this movie.. and go rent BrainDead.
Worst movie I have almost ever seen
I just read some of the comments of others, and I begin to think that I have seen a different movie.... But I know I didn't... The acting is very bad... It's shot on video (or it looked like it was shot on video).. The story is so utterly boring (I would like to say something else).. The only thing I enjoyed at the end was the shooting, and the performance of the Dad (I laughed my head off).. I saw this movie in a Sneak Preview here in the netherlands, and I think this movie should go right to the dust bin.. And for the record, I do like some of Spike Lee's other movies.
L'isola degli uomini pesce (1979)
Island of dr. Moreau
This movie is based on the novel Island of dr. Moreau By H.G. Wells. It's a fairly good one too, it's at least better than the version by John Frankenheimer.
