Rogue One (2016)
The Odd One
Although I would rate this episode very high in terms of visual effects, cinematography and production value, however, it was difficult for me to place the story on the time-line of the Star Wars series. As we were given to understand that it's a prequel to 2015 release "The Force Awakens" I was expecting something like the background of characters like Rey or a story that would extend into the near past of episode VII. However, the plot is completely disconnected with the latest episode and there is an entirely new set of characters whose relation with the existing set of characters, as we know in the Star Wars saga, is at best unclear and vague.
If you are a fan of science fiction movies and love to watch fancy space ships, humanoids, droids, friendly alien species, interplanetary warfare, then you must watch this movie.
However, as a Star Wars fan, you will find absolutely nothing that would qualify as any meaningful addition to the original tale. Nor there is anything you could expect to see in any subsequent episodes.
After enchanting us with The Force Awakens, Disney has given us Rogue One as a filler, perhaps with a message: "Hey, we're working very hard on the real one The Last Jedi till then, here's a Star Wars story you might like"
The Omen (2006)
Why compare an excellent film with one made thirty years ago?
I don't understand why people compare this movie with the 1976 version. The present one is an excellent film and there is no reason why we should compare it with a movie that was made thirty years ago. Brilliant photography, visual effects, sound, coupled with first rate performance by all actors make The Omen (2006) a treat to watch.
Before watching this movie, I read a number of reviews lamenting the present version for its supposedly weak overall filmography. I am really surprised. There isn't a dull moment throughout and the production is simply flawless.
I am a horror/mystery fan and have watched a large number of movies including The Omen (1976) and I would highly recommend The Omen (2006) to those looking for suspense/mystery/horror.
My vote: 8 out of 10
