Better Call Saul: Fall (2017)
Okay episode. Well written and directed. The acting is on movie level quality! We see how scheming Jimmy is with the elderly. (Jimmy needs money) Kim pushes herself to hard at the job with devastating results. The two side stories add flavor to the Fall episode. The main story is the Chuck Character who was discredited with his law firm after the revenge suit against Jimmy! Howard Hamlin tries to repair the firms damage and gives Chuck an honourable golden parachute! Chuck shows his true colors. What will Howard's next move be? Not a memorable episode but entertaining. Six out of ten stars.
Okay season ending
Well acted and directed but the story line is running out of gas. The Jennings are becoming more human with trying to rescue a dying teenager. A trick to turn the family back the U S S R. The Jennings want to go back home to the U S S R, but there is a plot twist. Stan' new girlfriend is she K G B? Will Olav be back in the picture with Stan?Paige is turning into a more harden spy, while Henry is resent his family. Will Paige and Henry have a conflict? Does Henry have aspirations to join the F B I? Lose ends for season 6. I hope season 6 is more action and less soap opera!
Season 5 saves itself with the final two episodes.
Season 5 saves itself with the final two episodes. I hope Phil and Liz get theirs! The poor Russian kid is tormented to suicide. Paige is a mental mess, and pastor Tim is sent away. I wonder if Paige will turn into another savage agent. One wonders if Phil will mentally break and or get caught. Oleg Burov becomes disillusioned with the Soviet system's corruption. The World Council of Churches is a segue episode for season six. I bet the Jennings will come to a head. Oleg will become a double agent for season six.
The Americans: Dyatkovo (2017)
Dyatkovo is a mind numbing episode. Phil and Liz do have a human side. Years in America have created doubts in the Soviet system. The series flips back to the Soviet Union to show a humane and compassion existed in the enemies lives. Phil and Liz must assassinate a war criminal. Is Dyatkovo who the superior says the war criminal is? Did Dyatkovo do what was said or forced into the atrocities? There is collateral damage with the mission leaving doubt for the deep cover agents. Stan doubts and wants to quit the F B I after Stan's recruitment of spies! Henry's tour of the F B I has Henry's love for Stan, the missing dad of Phil, and America strengthen. I wonder if Henry will spy for Stan in future episodes with discovering Henry's parents lies. Eight out of ten stars.
The Americans: Darkroom (2017)
One of the better episodes for season 5!
One of the better episodes for season 5! After all the season 5s watching a conflicted Paige the viewer learns insight on the Paige character in the Darkroom episode! Paige finds the pastors diary and with years of social work experience finds Paige to be the most fractured personality the pastor has dealt with! Will Paige implode or become a harden commie? My bet harden commie! I double down on my bet that Henry will be the opposite of Paige! Henry hanging out with the F B I neighbour, along with Henry's parents having no interest and or time for him has made Henry independent of mom and dad. Henry get across as an 80's American teenager and would tell Stan about the K G B parents! Stan has guilt as the agents try to infiltrate and create more snitches. I wonder if Stan's girlfriend is K G B? Darkroom excellently creates the environment of the spy games life! The viewer experience the burn out of the price one pays as an agent. 7 out of 10 stars.
Better than I thought!
Dead Men tell no tales aka Pirates of the Caribbean is better than I thought, but I had low expectations. What worked: The beginning with the over the top bank heist. The vault going through the town. The mystery and magic with the boy, and the attractive women all needing to find Captain Sparrow. Strong acting by the main characters Javier Bardem, Geoffrey Rush, Johnny Depp etc. All the main antagonist characters' story-lines collide with wanting revenge with Captain Jack Sparrow. The antagonists' anger creates humor and interest about the flawed character Jack Sparrow. What did not work: The formulated all work together story-line which is getting old. The conclusion ends with the usually C G I special effects which is redundant and predictable. Not the movie of the summer but better than I thought! Entertaining. 7 stars out of ten.
The Mummy (2017)
Run of the mill!
The Mummy is run of the mill formulated movie. Nothing special here. I would not call The Mummy a bad movie, but not a great flick either. What worked: The first fifth-teen minutes where great. Tom Cruse aka Captain Jack Sparrow style, creates a mess. There is a mystery. A pretty girl. What more can one ask? Well acted Cruse never has a weak performance. Crowe's acting/narration style captivates the audience. Wallis is a strong supporting actress, who guides a lost lead character through the unknown. The director keeps a fast entertaining pace. What did not work: Cruse becomes a zombie fighter aka The Walking dead. The concept is getting old because of the zombie T V series. When The Mummy story-line hits the secret compound the story could be a mystery, but a regrettably but turns into anther formulated super hero movie. The Mummy's strongest character Crowe (who just shines) is not in enough scenes. The ending is a predictable all ends tie up with the flawed hero concept. The ending leaves room for a part two which will never be made. If you are expecting a Mission Impossible film from Cruse avoid the Mummy. Okay six out of ten.
The Americans: Crossbreed (2017)
Croossbreed is okay
Croossbreed is okay. Well acted all the characters and supporting character create a realistic story. Gabriel retirement announcement is symbolic and realistic about the burn out form the dirt in spy games. Oleg Burov trying make a difference in the dark Soviet Union, but has doubts. Phil and Liz have regrets with the kids and missions which are nasty mixed with lies. Stan Beeman wonders if past mistakes/human collateral damage will happen with recruiting new leaks. The overall message of dredge and burn out is a theme. The slow burnout make the viewer which character or characters going break soon. 7 out of 10 stars.
The Americans: IHOP (2017)
Picking up speed!
Season 5 is picking up speed. The Jennings look into what their Vietnamese agent is up to? A Break down with the manipulations with the Russian agricultural specialist family takes a nasty turn. Stan has doubts about his work. Oleg Burov is starting to have doubts about the communist system while under investigation. All the sub-stories are slowly building into bigger stories. Will Phil and Liz quit the spy games? Will there children survive in the C C C P? Will Stan quit the F B I or is there a K G B love interest who has an influence over Stan? The more one watches, the more questions the viewer has? The Americans craft the message we are machines which need stimuli to alter people's behavior. How much of the manipulation has a cost to other people's lives is a question asked about Spy games. A main theme for the Phil Jennings character. 7 out of 10
In Search of...: Bishop Pike (1982)
Wondere why they made this one.
Wonders why Bishop Pike was made. The viewer learns about the controversial Bishop Pike. Divorced, left the Catholic Church, went to other Church. Son commits suicide. Bishop Pike life was a mess and full of disbelief. One wonders why and or what Pike believed in? Represents the troubled times in the 1960s. A strange death in the desert. A troubled man full of doubts and a disjointed life. Forgets a book dead line and writes an entire book in one day! Bishop Pike life was one of disjoints events ideas. Doubts about Marry! Makes a Astor- naught glass work for a church window etc. Got nothing out of Bishop Pike episode. 3 out of 10. Not one of my favorites.
